Chapter 43: Mr. Gentleman

After that, Alister looked at the notes for a little while longer and finally found a reasonable price offer.

"This means I should offer approximately... rons for that girl."

"Thank you very much for the information," having said these words, he began to analyze the information obtained to find a more efficient path for a plan so as to act immediately upon arriving in the city of Veregia.

’Their economy is very tough and quite smart. The city does not spare people of lower races and wants everything for itself; it can be assumed that they have huge reserves of money.’

’But the best thing is that I am not from this world, but from Earth. This means I have knowledge of Earth to propose something unique to them and, by using it, seize power. Only first, I must explore the city’s bazaar and see what people are lacking and what people have plenty of in order to make a rational decision.’

After that, he went up to the deck again, now with the goal of obtaining the slave and the knowledge of what price would be best to offer so that both would remain in complete satisfaction.

First of all, Alister began searching with his eyes for Little Mi, who apparently was not in the place where she had stood earlier when he said he was leaving.

’Where has she disappeared to?’

After that, he saw that she was standing in the corner of the ship where the warehouse was located, but not alone, but with that girl inside whom the crystal itself is located.

It seemed they were talking about something; both of them had a very sincere and cute smile on their faces.

’She can make anyone smile... well, almost anyone,’ he thought.

One could be assumed that they did not notice Alister or were busy with something important in their conversation.

Alister, meanwhile, immediately headed to the place where he had heard the voice of that captain who had called for the slave girl, in order to trade.

KNOCK-KNOCK-KNOCK

As a respected and aristocratic person, he first politely knocked on the door, waiting for an answer, and of course, he received it.

"Who’s there?" the captain’s voice was immediately heard, but the voice was not behind the door but from far away; perhaps the captain answered without even standing up from his seat.

"Forgive me, I am a merchant; I’ve come to you with a proposal," he said politely and gentlemanly.

After that, the captain’s voice fell silent, but one could hear someone walking directly to the door.

’One can guess that his eyes sparkled when he heard the word proposal. Well, judging by the city in general, trade is the fastest way to get rich and obtain the necessary power to rule over anyone,’ Alister noted to himself for the future.

The door opened, and from it, it was visible that the captain himself had opened the door-gold chains on his throat, as well as a very expensive hat that appeared to be made of some kind of expensive metal.

It was also worth noting his body; he was quite strong and slender, although his character left much to be desired.

Alister, despite his doubts, immediately used his skill:

’Primal Gaze’

<Current stats: Vincent Coldwell

Strength: 100

Speed: 100

Stamina: 115

Intelligence: 40

Primal Level: 1

Chosen Path: Path of the Captain (90% mastered)>

’I see, Captain Vincent Coldwell then... Apparently, he is the strongest man I have met so far, and judging by his body, it means if I train my body, my physical stats will also rise? If that’s the case, then after arriving I also need to work out so that I have at least some combat skills and strength.’

’I can’t trust the intelligence stat because the system might be an ancient sword and could be deceiving me; moreover, one could say it has already done so by showing that Lucian has 70 and so on. As a pragmatist, I must consider the worst-case scenario, so I will assume that this captain is very smart.’

’And now for his Captain’s Path... it says it’s 90 percent mastered. That means he has worked as a captain a lot and is well-known here.’

"Hello, Captain Vincent Coldwell. I have heard much about you, and that is why I have come to you with a small proposal," Alister began to speak politely as usual.

"Oh, hello, a proposal, you say? Well then... come in, Mr..." the captain himself began to speak, hinting that he didn’t know the name.

’Giving him my real name is too risky, so I need to come up with some kind of pseudonym... what was I called many times in the city of Syoga?’ he asked himself to remember how to introduce himself and seemed to find the answer quite quickly.

"Oh, please accept my apologies for not introducing myself first; everyone calls me Mr. Gentleman," he began to say.

The captain laughed slightly and patted Alister on the shoulder and said:

"Yes... I think I understand why they called you Mr. Gentleman..." he said, again hinting that he spoke very respectfully and politely.

’People usually understand that a gentleman is a person who shows respect to girls, but in fact, it is a person who shows respect and politeness to everyone, which greatly helps to lower their guard.’

’People who show respect only to girls or to people who are beneficial to them are called hypocrites. Usually, such people lie even to themselves that they are gentlemen. But a true gentleman comes from within. He acts this way toward everyone because he cannot descend to their level.’

’In such times, I ask myself: does it turn out that I am also a hypocrite? No. Because I have never lied to myself that I am truly a gentleman or a good person. I absolutely know what kind of person I am from a moral standpoint, and I accept it. But does that matter to me?’

"Yes, perhaps you are right, haha," Alister replied in a soft tone and entered the captain’s room.

There were several people sitting there, possibly the guests for whom the captain had shouted at the slave girl to bring wine.

They all looked no less expensive than the captain; moreover, they had more gold on their bodies in the form of chains and rings.

At the moment, they were all reading some documents, paying no attention even to the fact that someone had arrived.

’Is this such disrespect and indifference, or are they just waiting for me to sit down?’ he thought.

"Mr. Gentleman, we have new goods, and you can take a look and evaluate; if you like them, we’ll make them cheaper than usual," the captain said with a smile.

’It seems they aren’t interested in what kind of person you are; only money is important to them... Well then, let’s begin.’
