Chapter 229: Chapter 229: The Truth of the Wasteland Is Indeed a Man-Made Disaster
After waiting for about three days, the leader of the Steel Brotherhood finally returned.
Qi Suian wasn’t particularly impatient; after all, they had been serving him good food and drink.
Even though he didn’t eat or drink, it was the thought that counted.
Afterward, Cummings led Qi Suian to meet the leader of the Steel Brotherhood.
Half of the man’s body was shrouded in shadow, but through the Tai Sui God’s reconnaissance network, Qi Suian clearly saw the parts that were different.
His skull and right hand were white bone, while the rest of him was flesh and blood.
"Cummings, you can leave for now. I have some things to discuss with Jack," the leader of the Steel Brotherhood said.
Cummings was puzzled but didn’t say anything and left immediately.
Once he was gone, the leader of the Steel Brotherhood finally spoke. "You... you’re not from this world, are you."
"Elsewhere, I have met people called Survivors. They are out of place in the wasteland."
"And yet, they control a special power called Frigid Energy."
"So, you’re a Survivor too, aren’t you."
Qi Suian didn’t panic or fly into a rage because the man had figured out his identity. Instead, he just nodded. "That’s right."
"So, behind you all, there is a powerful being forcing you forward."
"Can you tell me Its name?" the leader of the Steel Brotherhood asked.
"Introducing yourself before asking questions is basic courtesy," Qi Suian said, not answering directly.
"Bruce. You can call me the Black Crystal Lord," Bruce said.
"Alright, Bruce," Qi Suian said slowly. "That name reminds me of a certain superhero."
"The being behind me is called the Doomsday Game. What about you?" Qi Suian asked casually.
’It costs nothing to ask. What if he really has one?’
"The Era of Lords. But I was luckier than you—I’ve already escaped It." Bruce showed no sign of holding back.
As he spoke, he stood up. The shadows dissipated, revealing his full appearance.
"You’re a far cry from me in my prime."
"I could have crushed you with a single finger, to say nothing of the heroes and units under my command." Bruce was unconcerned about his appearance or the information he was revealing.
"As they say, a true hero doesn’t boast about past glories," Qi Suian said, shaking his head. "Back in my day, I was a powerhouse who fought my way out from among tens of thousands of elite soldiers."
"Do you want to know the secrets of Victorious Eden?" Bruce suddenly changed the subject. He didn’t care about Qi Suian’s quip, but he could see Qi Suian’s strength.
Back when he was a Tier Five Lord, he possessed a powerful territory, heroes, and units. But ever since he broke away from the being known as the Era of Lords, it was as if he’d been skinned alive.
His territory crashed, his heroes died, and his units were erased.
Even he himself was stripped of all his class powers, left with only the residual energy from his former territory’s core.
His Black Crystal City had been a territory on a server called the Radiation Wasteland, and it possessed a unique radiation ability.
And this unique power was the source of this world’s irradiated wasteland.
After escaping to this world, he had originally planned to live out his days in peace. With his Extraordinary powers and the remnants of his territory, he quickly came to rule the planet.
From then on, he lived a life of debauchery, "ruling the world by day, resting on a beauty’s lap by night."
That was until his twelve wives, together with the powerful clans behind them, used his authority to start a world war and simultaneously backstabbed him.
The twelve Victorious Edens were forged from the fragments of his territory, the Black Crystal City.
He too was torn into twelve pieces and made into the so-called Fire Seed Sources to stabilize the Sanctuaries.
As for the sudden eruption of radiation, it was triggered by using the corpses of his former heroes as nodes, detonating a worldwide radiological event.
However, the so-called Victory Clan’s plot failed as well.
The Victory Clan never intended to destroy the entire planet; they wanted to use Bruce to obtain the same immense power and eternal life for themselves.
Unfortunately, they botched it, and everything was ultimately destroyed.
However, as a former Tier Five Lord, Bruce did not die completely after they integrated him into the Victorious Edens as Fire Seed Source Fragments.
After all, the Victorious Edens were, in their previous form, his crashed territory. They had always belonged to him.
The connection between them had never been severed.
Normally, he should have enacted his revenge back then.
But someone appeared out of nowhere and managed to suppress him, even using his power to create Fire Seeds.
After that, his power was continuously divided, leaving him unable to resist.
This continued until a mutant broke into one of the Victorious Sanctuaries, obtained his skull—a Fire Seed Source Fragment—and Bruce was finally able to break partially free.
And then, the Steel Brotherhood appeared on the stage of history.
"That’s a pretty good story." Qi Suian clapped for Bruce. "It would have been even better if you hadn’t left out the crucial parts."
’Bruce’s explanation is probably true for the most part, but he definitely hid key information.’
’The most obvious points are why the Victorious Edens started having problems and where the Sanctuaries’ resource crisis came from.’
’Those two things alone are enough to show that Bruce is up to no good.’
"That’s not important. What’s important is that you want..." Bruce began, about to sell Qi Suian a pipe dream.
But Qi Suian cut him off. "Not really."
"But I am very interested in the Victorious Edens," Qi Suian said meaningfully.
"Of course, no problem! We just need..." The moment Bruce started talking, Qi Suian knew this wouldn’t be anything good.
"Before you start talking about what you need, I have to test your strength first. Make sure you’re not just some useless, flashy garbage."
Qi Suian hadn’t even finished speaking when the Tai Sui God’s attack arrived.
An Evil Dragon and Evil Tiger materialized, riding the force of the punch as it shot toward Bruce’s chest.
’I definitely can’t aim for Bruce’s head; that thing must be insanely hard.’
’The bones I took from that Wasteland King back then were probably from one of Bruce’s heroes.’
’If a subordinate’s bones were that tough, then Bruce, the former lord, might not be stronger, but he’s no pushover either.’
’So if I’m going to strike, I have to aim for the flesh.’
Bruce’s White Bone Right Arm easily tore the Evil Dragon and Evil Tiger to shreds and, in the same motion, blocked the Tai Sui God’s attack.
CREAK—BANG!
The shield provided by the "Aegis of Embers" shield module was instantly crushed, and the Dragon and Tiger Primordial Divine Force shattered along with it.
Then, the armguard was crushed into a pulp by his sheer strength alone, with no other powers assisting it.
"He’s a little too strong," Qi Suian remarked as the Tai Sui God pulled back just in time. He never expected that even a Fire Seed-Awakened Tai Sui God couldn’t withstand a single exchange.
The main problem was the shield being broken. The armguard being crushed didn’t matter much, since its armor value was what counted.
Back then, the D-rank Viper Armor was considered a squishy armor set, yet it had 100 armor points. Even with extra armor points to compensate, it didn’t really meet the standard.
"It’s just that you’re too weak."
"Right now, I only have the power of a Tier Three."
"And I don’t even have any treasures or a class." As Bruce spoke, his White Bone Right Arm shot out to crush Qi Suian’s head.
’If that thing gets a clean grip on me, I’m dead for sure.’
Bruce talked about cooperation, but when he struck, he showed no hesitation.
His attack was fast, precise, and ruthless—aimed to kill.
The Wind Master aviation system went into overload, not only dodging the attack but even allowing for a counterattack.
Bruce didn’t have time to defend against the punch, and Qi Suian landed a direct hit on his chest.
Bruce’s rib cage was shattered. The Evil Dragon and Evil Tiger, Feast of Gluttony, and Armor Break modules all activated at once, sending him flying backward.
The force of the blow was so great that, for a moment, he couldn’t even get back up.
"You... you’re full of lies," Qi Suian said, seeing through his act. "You’re strong, but only your skull and your right arm bone are strong."
"The rest of your body is still just at the peak for a mutant."
"These body parts that you haven’t replaced yet—they’re your weakness."
"If the rest of your body matched the power of your right arm bone, I wouldn’t have been able to react at all."
"You could have blown my head off, and I wouldn’t have even felt the pain."
"But the fact that you’re talking about cooperation and needs implies that your own strength has a major flaw."
The weakness was just too obvious. If Bruce hadn’t managed to bluff Qi Suian in that first moment, the smart-brain would have quickly analyzed the flaw.
Bruce struggled back to his feet, the wound on his chest writhing as it began to heal.
Regeneration and self-healing were what mutants did best.
"Jack, you truly are a top-tier Survivor."
"To think you figured out my weakness in such a short time."
"I know that you Survivors constantly travel to other Doomsday Worlds, so you and I have no conflict."
"You help me take back what is mine, and I will give you a generous reward."
"Then you can go back to your Doomsday Game, and I’ll continue being the Wasteland King here."
"It’s a win-win partnership." By the time Bruce finished speaking, the wound on his chest had already healed.
"So, what about a sign of your sincerity?" Qi Suian asked casually.
"What do you want?" Bruce asked, sitting back in his seat.
"Tier One, Two, and Three Fire Seeds. I have a use for them," Qi Suian said, making an exorbitant demand.
"Fire Seeds can be exchanged for rewards in your Doomsday Game?" Bruce chuckled, then gave a counteroffer before Qi Suian could answer. "Tier Two. No more than that."
"Add Tier One, or the deal’s off," Qi Suian haggled.
’His bottom line was actually just the Tier Two Fire Seeds, but since Bruce was so decisive, Qi Suian had no choice but to raise the price.’
"Fine. But you have to act with me. Otherwise, if I’m alone, I can only defeat them, not kill them," Bruce added his own condition.
"No problem. In addition to the reward I need, I also want the Fire Seeds from the destroyed Tier One Sanctuaries," Qi Suian added another condition.
"I can only give you what I can. There’s no way I can find all of them," Bruce amended the condition.
