Chapter 808: Rest, Rewards & Reconnaissance (part 5)
Seeing that Fawn wasn’t approaching the bag with the training wood weapons, Agnes raised an eyebrow to then say.
"Is there a problem, if you don’t use sword, spear, dagger or shield and need a specific training weapon just say it, we have quite the skilled "crafter" on our side", naturally the sportsy sun diamond princess was referring to Aster, since he could carve a training weapon in a matter of minutes and Agnes didn’t mind waiting in order to have a good fight.
"It’s not that, I actually have basic knowledge on the usage of many different weapons due to my fighting style, but I’m... more comfortable with having my hands free", answered the brown-haired potential princess.
"Oh, we have options for that as well, attack or defense?", asked Agnes as she looked deeper into the bag to which Fawn answered.
"Defense", she was then thrown a pair of leather gloves by the sportsy sun diamond princess, they were different than the training ones created for Alice, the protection wasn’t focused on the knuckles and reverse of the hand, but on the palm itself, which drew Aster’s interest as that’s a first in the group.
’If I remember correctly, it was miss Valentina alongside the girls who helped craft the nets, the ones that sewn the main body of all the leather gloves, but I don’t remember those, I guess she never stopped worrying about Fawn’s situation’, thought Aster.
Out of everyone, the one that knew the most about Fawn was Valentina, perhaps she was planning to have her join their side if it was possible, it just so ended up happening way before she expected and she didn’t even have the chance to ask Aster to choose her, because Aster was the one to bring up the idea, this while chuckling at his insides over the clearly happy expression that flourished on the purple lightning princess’s face for a fraction of a second, before she regained her usual responsible self.
"Thanks, I’m ready", said Fawn as she not only put on the gloves but also took off her shoes and socks, she was surprisingly going to fight bare footed but after a couple of steps Aster noticed something interesting, her soles weren’t getting stained at all.
’Mmm, she comes from a family with a close relation to the earth element, that being said as a princess she is ought to have or awaken a soul constitution, an extra trait like Agnes and miss Valentina maybe... that would mean her potential and talent might not lose to theirs though’, thought Aster.
Something Aster has noticed is that both Agnes and Valentina share an extra "talent" outside of the main scope of their lineage/constitutions, Agnes is only granted light-related talent from the Sun Diamond aspect, the same applied with lightning for Valentina and the Purple Lightning aspect.
However, those two have a knack for other things, Agnes physical capacities are outstanding let alone among soul path cultivators but even for main body path ones, though she obviously grew way too slow and required lots of training for just a tiny bit of improvement, before meeting Aster that is, it’s not normal for an energy and soul path cultivator to obtain strength on par with body path ones, without relying in rare resources of course.
As for Valentina, it’s less noticeable in her case, since when it comes to battle, it reflects in her energy and soul paths, but her meticulous and delicate control over them is seamless and perfect, she is not called "Purple Lightning Princess" because she is a princess from the Lightning Amethyst family, the origin of her title is that lightning obeys her as if she was their princess, fun fact, purple just like golden are colors often related to authority and royalty.

Also, not all the Fey princesses are the same, among the batches of the different generations, some are obviously way more outstanding than others, for example from Valentina’s specific batch which was considered a "blessing" for the Fey family, given that the whole ten main families had one princess and half of them had one male member of the same level which are even rarer than princesses, suddenly appear, only one princess can barely be mentioned in the same sentence as her, while two guys are her equal, Fawn’s half-brother being one of them.
Agnes’s case is the complete opposite, her specific batch seemed to be skipped by talent, as she is the sole princess level figure who appeared in it, and that makes her a "rarity" but let’s leave that aside for now.
The point is that Valentina and Agnes are expected to be on par with Aster’s Fey godmother, a princess who comes from the leading family of one of the two major factions, who can only be equaled by her opposite from the other major faction in the whole family within her generation,
And Fawn might be like them, which only makes it strange that she wasn’t noticed before, there should have been signs of her potential long before she was in the process of becoming a princess after all.
"That’s an interesting stance, totally not what I expected from someone related to that guy though", said Agnes as she saw Fawn place one foot forward, her toes pointing straight ahead while her other foot was on the rear in a slightly perpendicular position, forming a triangular shape, her knees were both slightly bent as well.
If that was all, then it would be basically the same as the main stance Aster showed the girls of the sect, however there was "something" different here, it was hard to explain it, but Agnes could feel it.
Agnes "locked" on Fawn, she was using the four equipment, the shield was on her back, the sword on her waist, while she wielded the spear, the dagger was nowhere to be seen as well, the standard set up devised by Aster.
The sportsy sun diamond princess tensed her legs a bit to then rush towards Fawn, her spear thrusting forward only for Fawn’s image to first grow closer to then "disappear" the next second.
"Thud!", a dull sound became present as Fawn who was now standing at Agnes’s side held onto the shaft of the spear with one hand while she hit Agnes’s elbow with her palm, the potential princess’s eyes contracted a bit as she realized that she couldn’t take away the spear from Agnes.
"A weapon-taking technique, that’s quite an advanced method and it was beautifully executed as well, it’s a shame that Agnes’s strength is no joke, however what truly surprised me is how she smoothly reached the position to do that", said Aster.
Earlier, Fawn actually lunged towards Agnes as if she was rushing towards the incoming spear head on, that’s why she grew closer from Agnes’s point of view, however she then "disappeared" by moving to the side in an incredibly smooth way, instead of taking steps it was more as if she slid on the ground.
’Her feet barely left the ground and more importantly, her balance was perfect throughout the whole thing, that... is not a level you can acquire from zero in just five days of training in mortal fighting style, she must have knowledge which could be traced back to basic mortal concepts and managed to adapt herself to it, maybe with the help of her attack type manual but still that in itself is praise worthy’, thought Aster.
Having failed to take away the spear from Agnes, Fawn reacted quite fast, since the enemy wasn’t letting go of the spear, then she could use that as well, applying strength on her grip on the shaft of the spear, she aimed her free hand at Agnes’s wrist, which surprisingly resulted in the sportsy sun diamond princess letting go of the spear, while she reached for her chest, taking out the hidden dagger to then slash it at Fawn.
"Clack!", a wood against wood clashing sound was the result as Fawn blocked the dagger with the end of the spear which Agnes had let go of a moment ago, Agnes however smacked the spear to the side, both training weapons were thrown due to the impact, while the sportsy sun diamond princess "unsheathed" her sword and slashed down Fawn on the spot.
"That was dangerous for a second there, if you would have gotten ahold of my wrist then this might have been a draw, so in non-life and death situations you are almost my equal in terms of technique, that’s quite something", said the sportsy sun diamond princess whose sword’s point was pressed against Fawn’s chest.
"Agnes uses the swift sword style, sure the sword she is using is a standard non-customized one for that, but her muscle memory and technique toned down to mortal level is still there, and yet she managed to go from sure death to heavy wound if this was a fight between cultivators", said Aster.
What happened is that Agnes’s sword originally was supposed to be pressed against Fawn’s neck, however the potential princess managed to deviate the slash downwards a bit, not enough to avoid a lethal strike in a fight at mortal level, but between cultivators having one’s chest pierced it’s not instant death most of the time, but being beheaded is.
"You could have dodged instead and the fight would have continued though", said Agnes as she retrieved her sword, to which Fawn shook her head in response.
"I would have lost my balance and miss Agnes would have won in a couple of extra moves, your mastery over the sword is on a whole different level when compared to the other weapons, I failed to think about that or more accurately I didn’t expect the gap to be that big, if you had fought only with a sword from the very beginning, I would have suffered "wounds" before taking the killing blow", she said.
The potential princess had actually managed to keep her clothes clean out of any painting mark, outside of the sword one, so besides the attack that killed her, Agnes didn’t score any other point against her.
"You are the same age as most girls of the sect so just call me sister Agnes, like them, that was a good match", said the sportsy sun diamond princess as she offered her hand to Fawn who was taken by surprise, but ultimately accepted the handshake.
"Mm", with a soft nod, her evaluation was over.

"Her fighting style is closer to self-defense rather than the heavy attack focus I saw in basically all of the other members of the Mountain Amber family, what’s more her main aspect is not even outward toughness but balance as if she was...", Aster’s words were interrupted by Valentina who was supposed to have been fighting the komodo dragon king but postponed it since she wanted to watch Fawn’s fight.
"Immovable as a mountain, right?", said Valentina to then add.
"The reason as to why a talented girl like her wasn’t given any attention from the Mountain Amber family until now, is because she doesn’t align with their family’s view of strength, they all focus in either solid defense and endurance or devastating heavy offense".
"What’s more, her half-brother has what’s considered the strongest offense focused attribute of the Mountain Amber family, so she was a "disappointment" until she showed signs of becoming a princess of course, then she suddenly gained the main family’s recognition... damn hypocrites".
"I didn’t want to help her just out of sympathy of her circumstances or because I didn’t want her to be dragged into the never-ending conflicts for power at such a young age, but also because despite the external pressure she remained true to herself, so she deserves a chance to develop in a way that won’t make her regret it later", concluded Valentina to which Aster added.
"Okay, but if we are going to do it, we’ll go all the way until the end, I don’t have the hobby of raising enemies so if you convince her to stay with our side, I promise that she will "develop" in aspects that go further than the matters related to the Fey lineage", he was referring to the possibility of Fawn being a spirit tamer.
There is no way Aster is the sole spirit tamer in the four heavenly quadrants and yet, there is no knowledge about spirit tamers there, that’s because even if someone has the innate talent, without the information about how to establish the contract, they can’t become spirit tamers and access all the benefits that come with that.
"You want to "kidnap" another princess?", jokingly said Valentina, Aster’s involvement in the matters of the Redheart family had spread all over the place so everyone knew that he held "hostage" Iris and the three sisters, due to a debt of some kind.
That is basically the only way to keep Fawn out of the control of the Mountain Amber family, Valentina can’t be the one at the vanguard of the operation because she represents the Lightning Amethyst family and other options to block the Mountain Amber family will come with conditions not far less trashy than theirs.
"Well, this is a matter of the mountain amber family, not the Fey as a whole, they are as strong as the Redheart as a whole at most and both hate me anyway, so what’s there to fear, you can talk with their real family so that they don’t get in the way, worst case scenario that irresponsible half-brother of hers will be sent by the mountain amber to cause some trouble", casually said Aster as he shrugged to then smirk as he added.
"As for their "knit-close" ally the Ocean Aquamarine family which might have found a reason to interfere, didn’t their representative just agreed to hand her over to us, under more than three hundred witnesses, two princesses from the Fey family included, with what face will they participate in this matter".
Justification is both a sword in the hands of the rightful faction and a chain around their necks, in the open at least, if Aster said he was going to keep Fawn in the sect as repayment for having kept her safe in this place, unless Fawn herself denied it, no one could do anything about it, until a proper compensation was agreed upon by both parties.
However, how could one of the ten main branches of a ruler family lower themselves to seek negotiation from a single person, a member of the youngest generation no less, so they’ll of course send someone within certain limits to cause trouble to the other party so that he is the one to seek them out instead, unfortunately that doesn’t work with Aster as the Redheart family learned the hard way.
If he at least mistreated the hostages, then they could work an excuse to go further in the open, but the problem is that the girls in question didn’t show the slightest desire to return, so they can’t resort to the "He’s evil let’s purge him" crusade, that’s why this trick worked to make a refuge for those who wished it, of course this was so long as Aster was willing to clash with the forces trying to retrieve them.
"So that’s why you proposed the oath to guarantee her safety yourself, I hate the Ocean Aquamarine family and yet you are starting to make me feel bad for them", mumbled Valentina to then say.
"Fine, you just keep being a monstrously talented "greedy womanizer", I’ll take care of the rest, I... owe you one for this".
"Friends don’t mind such things, besides I have a large family to provide for, so more "wealth donors" are always welcomed", jokingly said Aster, making the purple lightning princess chuckle before she realized it, which resulted in Valentina coughing to regain her serious expression.
"Ahem, I’ll take note of that", she said.
"Hey Aster, I think she is apt to lead a group of combatants, what do you think?", the previous conversation was kept between Aster and Valentina because Agnes was busy talking with Fawn about her fighting style and similar subjects, apparently, she had entered the sportsy sun diamond’s princess area of interest completely after that match.
"I agree, we were in need for a captain of the guards and patrolling units, her fighting style is perfect to defend the camp while the vanguard fights the main enemy, what’s more her profession also aligns with the task, how does that sound?", said Aster to which Fawn nodded.
"Mm".
"Speaking of which, don’t leave yet, we have a little "test" to make with the help of miss eagle here", added Aster to then change his focus to the komodo dragon king and Valentina.
"Crack!", of course one couldn’t expect a tactical fight such as the one between Agnes and Valentina, the giant komodo dragon king lunged towards the purple lightning princess, since killing blows weren’t allowed, he didn’t use his bite as it is venomous, but the rest of his body was fine.

The ground produced cracking sounds as the king heavily stepped in order to reach Valentina, his right frontal paw’s claws slashed towards the purple lightning princess.
"Clack!", a loud wood hitting sound echoed through the vicinity as Valentina used the short and thick wood dagger to deviate the enemy’s claws to the side instead of directly clashing with them, in terms of weight-impact the king would of course win after all.
"Shaaa!", the komodo dragon king spun his body and using his large length and though not flexible, strong tail he aimed to sweep Valentina away.
The purple lightning princess instead of dodging or blocking, rushed and jumped aiming to land on the back of the king, but surprisingly the latter rolled on the ground denying a proper support for Valentina to land.
Still, she demonstrated her superior reflexes when compared to Agnes and used her right hand which was free to propel herself into the air taking advantage of the momentum, elegantly landing a few meters away from the enemy who stood up at the same time, regaining his stance.
"He knows the disadvantages of a larger body against an agile smaller bodied opponent, what’s more, other animals wouldn’t try to land on his back to then attack him from what usually is a hard to reach spot, so this is something that was specially prepared to fight against humans", said Aster.
Animals that move on four legs, like komodo dragons for example can’t reach their backs, that being said they aren’t large enough to worry about an enemy literally walking on them.
However, that ancestor which passed on the betrayal their race suffered at the hands of humans saw their king die and grew to become a king himself, which is why he prepared a way to resist against them.
"Clack!", Aster returned to the real world as he heard the sound of wood being hit, the king’s claws were being continuously parried by Valentina using the dagger and her sword, it was a fight between main raw power against main technique again, but this time the roles were inversed.
The komodo dragon king aimed to bite off the sword, which he might be able to pull even in a real fight because his teeth are that hard, but that was a mistake.
"Thud!", a loud dull sound accompanied by the king’s eyes losing focus for a second, were followed by Valentina’s voice.
"It’s over", she said as she pressed her sword against the neck of the king, what happened is that the purple lightning princess had used the shield which was hanging from her back to block the bite, rotated using the impact to accelerate and then use the opening to aim at the king’s neck with her sword, signaling his defeat.
