Chapter 688: Chapter 646: I Bet My Eternal Glory, Qin Fan! (5)

He drove out in the Bentley that Ye Jizu had given him. For Qin Fan, who had no particular interest in cars, this was just an ordinary means of transportation. After all, Lord Qin often used ride-hailing services and never showed the slightest disdain for taxis. In a world gone mad for cars, Qin Fan had already soared beyond the horizon.

He didn’t engage the car’s roaring speed mode. Qin Fan slowly drove the Bentley out of the Half Mountain Villa District, merging seamlessly into the flow of traffic and making his way unhurriedly toward the Ye Family’s estate.

About ten minutes later, the Bentley drove through the open gates of the Ye Family mansion. He found an empty spot and casually parked.

Amid respectful calls of "Lord Qin," Qin Fan entered the Ye Family’s main hall with a smile.

"Lord Qin!"

"Master Qin!"

"Mr. Qin!"

"Young Friend Qin!"

As Qin Fan appeared, everyone who had been talking stood up in unison to greet him with jovial shouts.

There weren’t many people. Aside from two outsiders, Ma Yunbin and Lai Zhuge, there were only Old Master Ye, Ye Jizu, and Ye Jizong, who served as a provincial Governor.

"Young Friend Qin, it’s been too long! We’ve dearly missed you! For you to grace my Ye Family’s humble abode truly brings us great honor!" The hale and hearty Old Master Ye walked toward Qin Fan, laughing with immense vigor.

"Cut it out, Old Ye. At your age, just speak plainly. While it’s human nature to enjoy flattery, you know I don’t fall for that! Haha!" Qin Fan reached out and patted the elder’s arm, shaking his head with a laugh.

"No, no, I’m speaking from the heart. At my age, I’m past the stage of flattery! Young Friend Qin, when I say your presence brings us honor, I am not being insincere or merely polite!" Ye Congjun declared, his expression turning serious toward the end.

A sly smile touched Qin Fan’s lips. "Old Ye," he said meaningfully, "are you sure my presence brings you honor and not a heap of trouble?"

At his words, Ye Congjun paused. Then, a thoughtful smile appeared on his face—which seemed to be growing younger thanks to Spiritual Water No. 1. "There are no outsiders here, so I’m not afraid of being laughed at. Indeed, a few days ago, I was a bit worried. Just a bit, but it was still an indecisive struggle. The difference between bringing trouble and bringing honor is simply a matter of choice. Now, I have made my choice firmly, and I believe it will bring us honor!"

"How so? What makes you say that?" Qin Fan asked with a smile.

"Young Friend Qin, you are endowed with exceptional talent. You may seem reckless and cold-hearted, acting without considering the consequences, but everything you’ve done recently has been underpinned by absolute confidence! Your prowess has been on full display ever since that incident in Japan. Indeed, I could have chosen to abandon ship and watch from the sidelines. Even if the Forbidden side decided to settle scores later, they couldn’t have done much to my Ye Family. After all, we would have switched our allegiance early, before we could be accused of stubborn defiance. Considering our years of toil and contributions, they would have had to turn a blind eye. At most, they would have caused us some minor, harmless trouble!"

Ye Congjun shook his head with a wry smile as he spoke, then chose not to continue on that topic. "Enough, let’s put these matters aside for now. Young Friend Qin, a light meal is prepared. Let’s have a few drinks before we talk more!"

"Sure!" Qin Fan agreed with a nod and a smile.

"Come, this way please!" Ye Congjun said, gesturing with an inviting bow.

It was hard to imagine that the once Iron-blooded War General now performed such respectful salutations, like some sort of scholar-poet. In response, Qin Fan gave a slight nod and a smile, following Ye Jizu’s lead toward a side hall.

"Come, Lai Shenxiang, this way, please!" Turning to Lai Zhuge, Ye Congjun gestured invitingly again.

"Haha, Old Master Ye, you’re too kind!" Lai Zhuge responded, following along.

"Old Master Ye, Old Master Ye, I can find my own way! Please, don’t trouble yourself over me!" Ma Yunbin said hurriedly from behind Lai Zhuge, quickening his pace.

However, Ye Congjun’s hearty laugh nearly made him wish the ground would swallow him whole. "Yunbin, you’re overthinking it! You haven’t reached that level yet, haha!"

COUGH, COUGH! COUGH, COUGH, COUGH!

Walking ahead, Ma Yunbin coughed dryly, doing his best to hide his extreme embarrassment.

In the Ye Family’s side hall, a few light, stir-fried dishes were laid out on the dining table, paired with two jars of well-aged Daughter’s Red wine.

Declining the seat of honor, Qin Fan casually pulled out a chair and sat down. His refusal, however, left the main seat empty. Although it was supposed to be Ye Congjun’s place, he chose to leave it vacant since Qin Fan would not take it. This was also a statement—a tacit understanding between them that needed no words.

"Come, Jizu, pour the wine! It’s rare for us to gather. How about we have three rounds before discussing other matters?" Ye Congjun said, taking a deep breath.

Qin Fan could only shake his head with a helpless smile at these conventions but didn’t want to spoil Old Master Ye’s mood. Putting everything else aside, Qin Fan held a genuine, deep-seated respect for Ye Congjun. After all, the great nation of Huaxia’s achievements today were all founded upon the blood and sweat of the gun-carrying generation. On this point, whether Qin Fan was a Golden Core or at the Crossing Tribulation stage, on Earth, he would always be a child of Huaxia with Flame Yellow Blood in his veins.

As Ye Jizu poured the wine, everyone raised their delicate cups. With a silent toast to one another, they tilted their heads back and drank it all in one go.

After three rounds, Ye Congjun slowly wiped his mouth and began to speak. "Everyone sitting here today is in the same trench as you, Young Friend Qin. Even if you were to turn on old me, I wouldn’t lose too much face. So, I’ll speak frankly. Young Friend Qin, could you make a trip to the capital? You don’t need to bow your head or say a thing. Your very presence in the capital would be a statement, and the Forbidden side would understand that. The fact they’ve restrained themselves until now without making a sound shows they’re still hesitating. But in my view, they won’t—and can’t—allow a hundred years of order to be turned into a joke for the sake of one person. The public nature of the incident was simply too egregious! Countless eyes are watching. If there’s no resolution, public trust will be severely shaken, and this will surely become a historic turning point. Your going to the capital is the statement they need. The Forbidden side can use that to resolve this matter gradually. Young Friend Qin, can you please consider it carefully?"

"Haha!"

"Hahaha!"

As Ye Congjun finished speaking, Qin Fan suddenly shook his head and laughed, a domineering aura flashing in his razor-sharp eyes. The next moment, his laughter stopped. He declared with unyielding arrogance, "This isn’t the first day you’ve known what kind of person I, Qin Fan, am. If I go to the capital, wouldn’t I have destroyed the Bo Family for nothing? In this world, there are only those who bow to Qin Fan. There will never be a time when Qin Fan bows to another—never! If they want war, then let there be war! I’m betting on my own eternal legacy!"
