Chapter 638: Chapter 598: The Beauty Pie that Fell from the Sky! (2)_11
A mad glint shimmered in Wang Anshi’s eyes as he growled deeply.
"So, what do you plan to do?"
Although he had anticipated the answer, Hua Xiaotian still couldn’t help but ask. He didn’t want that scenario to unfold, not in the least. He knew just how terrifying Qin Fan truly was, having witnessed his horrifying capabilities firsthand.
This was a point the people here didn’t understand. It seemed his master, the Demi Immortal of Qilian, didn’t either.
No immediate answer came to Hua Xiaotian’s question. Half a minute passed, then Wang Anshi finally spoke, his expression trembling as he enunciated each word through clenched teeth.
"If we don’t eliminate this threat now, he will plague us endlessly!"
Qin Fan didn’t possess the power of Thousand-mile Eye or Sharp-Hearing Ear. Even if he did, he wouldn’t have been probing in the direction of Beijing at that moment. But whether he knew about the events in Beijing or not, he had already prepared for the worst.
Though he had acted with extreme arrogance in the Bo Family incident, that didn’t mean he was ignorant. After such a public display of deterrence, it would be childish to think that the higher-ups weren’t paying close attention to him. Under these circumstances, it was time for him to prepare for a rainy day.
Shortly after he left the Eastern Hotel, the phone in his pocket suddenly buzzed.
"Boss Qin!" Ye Jizu’s grave voice came through the moment his finger swiped to answer the call.
"Go on," Qin Fan replied indifferently, sitting in the back of a taxi.
"Boss Qin, I know it might not be my place to say this, but I can’t hold it in! Regarding the Bo Family, you were too impulsive. There are many ways to handle them, but this form of intimidation is very likely to give the higher-ups ideas about you!" Ye Jizu said, his voice laced with concern.
"Impulsive?" Qin Fan gave a frivolous, noncommittal smile. "Do you think I care?"
With those words, the other end of the line went silent.
Indeed, would Qin Fan care? If he cared, would he have acted this way?
"Boss Qin, I know you don’t care, but if it really comes to that, you won’t be facing just one person! If you provoke a backlash and a unified siege from those above, the losses will far outweigh the gains! There really was no need to resolve the Bo Family matter in such a fashion!" After a pause, Ye Jizu chose his words cautiously, trying to be diplomatic for fear of angering Qin Fan.
"What are you really trying to say?" Hearing the hesitation in Ye Jizu’s voice, Qin Fan’s tone deepened.
"Boss Qin!" Ye Jizu exclaimed, taking a deep breath. After a moment of silence while Qin Fan waited, he continued, "Boss Qin, according to the Old Master’s wishes, he hopes you will go with him to Beijing! To avoid those unnecessary... erm, unnecessary confrontations!"
As he finished speaking, Ye Jizu’s heart began to hammer in his chest.
"Haha! Is this an order from Beijing, or is it Old Man Ye’s idea?" Qin Fan laughed mockingly.
"There’s been no news from Beijing, and they haven’t contacted us. This is purely the Old Master’s own idea," Ye Jizu replied solemnly and truthfully.
"If I were someone who considered consequences, someone who cared about them, I would never have slaughtered the Bo Family. If I feared angering certain people, I wouldn’t have thrown Bo Qiudong from the ninth floor and intimidated all of Jinling! So, tell Old Man Ye he’s worrying too much! However, if you’re afraid of being implicated, that’s fine. It’s not too late to cut ties with me now! Rest assured, even if you draw a clear line between us, I won’t hold a grudge. I had a third-generation member of the Chang family relay the same message to them, and now you can relay my words to Old Man Ye! I, Qin Fan, have never considered the consequences of my actions, because there are no consequences worth my fear or concern! If they want to drop all pretenses, then let’s fight! It doesn’t matter if they rally the entire Martial Arts World to besiege me. This sky will never be vast enough to cover my eyes, nor this earth deep enough to bury my heart! In the dictionary of my life, the words ’compromise’ and ’concession’ do not exist! The Bo Family is destroyed, and that’s that. If I had to answer for it, wouldn’t I just be slapping my own face?"
What is arrogance? What is dominance?
Once again witnessing Qin Fan’s unbridled audacity, Ye Jizu was rendered completely speechless. He didn’t know what to say, or what he possibly could say. With Qin Fan having made his stance so clear, it would be utterly foolish to persist in trying to persuade him. Ye Jizu understood at least that much.
At that moment, the taxi driver couldn’t help but clear his throat. When Qin Fan glanced at him, the driver couldn’t resist saying, "Buddy, it’s fine to brag, but you’ve got to keep it within reason!"
"Heh...!" Qin Fan responded to the driver’s teasing with an indifferent chuckle.
On the other end of the line, Ye Jizu, who had been stunned into silence by Qin Fan’s speech, snapped back to his senses at the sound of the chuckle. He asked tentatively, "Boss Qin, is it really worth it to stir up all this trouble? You..."
"It’s not about whether it’s worth it. It’s about dealing with problems as they arise. Their choice of action is up to them; I’m indifferent. Going to Beijing to give an explanation is impossible. Just pass my words along to Old Man Ye. In this turbulent time, it’s not too late for the Ye Family to get out. Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’m hanging up. New Year’s is coming. I’ll be returning to Jiangzhou then. We can meet up."
With that, Qin Fan decisively ended the call, giving Ye Jizu no chance to respond.
He ignored the strange look the driver was giving him in the rearview mirror, leaned back against the seat, closed his eyes, and began to rest. Seeing this, the driver, who had been about to crack a few more jokes, wisely kept his mouth shut. After all, he was just a cabbie trying to support his family. Whether his passenger was a show-off or a braggart, it wasn’t his place to comment. His earlier laugh had already been a bit inappropriate. It was fortunate he had run into Qin Fan; if he’d met a real hot-headed poser, he would have been in for a rough time.
About half an hour later, the taxi stopped at the mouth of a deserted road, the driver daring not to venture any further. After hitting the brakes, he turned around. "Buddy, this is as far as I can go. I don’t dare drive in there! This road is chaotic; robbers are always showing up!"
"Fine, this is good." Qin Fan pulled out two hundred-yuan bills and handed them over before getting out of the car.
"Wait! I still have to give you your change!" the driver shouted, quickly rolling down the window after Qin Fan got out.
"Keep it as a tip," Qin Fan said with a faint smile, shaking his head.
"Wait a second!" Seeing Qin Fan start to walk away, the driver stuck his head out the window and called out again.
"Something else?" Qin Fan paused and turned back with a light chuckle.
Biting his lip, the driver said, "Buddy, take my advice. If it’s not incredibly urgent, don’t go in there! That place used to be a mass grave, and now it’s a robbers’ den. They’re out here day and night. All of us taxi drivers know about it! None of us dare take this road. Please don’t risk it!"
"Thanks! But let’s just hope the robbers don’t show up."
With a sly smile, Qin Fan disregarded the man’s well-intentioned warning and stubbornly continued on his way.
Robbers? If robbers really did appear, they must not have checked their almanacs before leaving home, because they’ve just walked right into King Yanluo on his patrol.
