Chapter 615: Chapter 588: Countdown! _6
Watching the silhouette enter the bathroom, Qin Fan felt his mouth go dry. He was a man, a vigorous one at that. Given that he was alone with a woman in a hotel suite, it would be pure nonsense to say he wasn’t having any ideas. However, this was also spurred by Jiang Yino telling him to go in. Had she remained asleep, Qin Fan might not have entertained such wicked thoughts.
SPLASH! SPLASH! SPLASH! As the sound of the shower started in the bathroom, Qin Fan trembled. His breathing grew ragged as his heart began to pound. Although he had been with countless women during his centuries on the Cangqiong Continent, he couldn’t help but feel a thrill as if it were his first time.
Exhaling deeply, Qin Fan turned away from the bathroom and walked over to the suite’s balcony. He stood there, more than twenty stories up, letting the cold wind whip against him. He gazed toward the grand courtyard that symbolized the pinnacle of power in Jinling, a coldness spreading across his face.
Just then, his phone began to vibrate violently in his pocket. BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ! Without much thought, Qin Fan slowly took it out. Seeing the name "Hua Xiaotian" on the screen, he swiped to answer and said bluntly, "Speak."
"Master Qin, is there any room for negotiation?" Hua Xiaotian didn’t beat around the bush, his voice low and tense.
"Are you here to plead for the Bo Family?" Qin Fan sneered.
"Master Qin, I know I have no right to plead for them, but I sincerely hope you can be magnanimous!" Hua Xiaotian said, his voice lacking conviction. He knew Qin Fan’s personality all too well. In all of Qin Fan’s known deeds, he had never found a single shred of mercy. Pleading for the Bo Family in this situation was terrifying; he was afraid of angering the man. But he had no choice. As the Director of the Guardian Institute, he could have turned a blind eye if the matter had remained secret. However, once Qin Fan announced his intentions to the world, he couldn’t just sit still.
"Master Qin!" Hua Xiaotian said, gritting his teeth.
"Give me one reason to be magnanimous," Qin Fan demanded. "Don’t talk to me about the ’bigger picture.’ From my perspective alone, give me a reason."
At those words, Hua Xiaotian’s lips twitched on the other end of the line. He was ultimately left speechless.
From Qin Fan’s perspective, there was truly no reason he could give.
Silence stretched on as Qin Fan let Hua Xiaotian stew in it. Half a minute passed, then one, then two, yet Hua Xiaotian still couldn’t find a single reason that would convince Qin Fan to back down.
"Nothing, huh? That shows you’re not completely stupid, Hua Xiaotian. Notify the Bo Family. Tell them to wash their necks. After midnight, I, Qin Fan, will not spare a single one of them. If your Guardian Institute wants to protect them, fine. Do as you wish. But I won’t be swayed by any past sentiments. Anyone who stands in my way will die!" Qin Fan’s arrogant words were punctuated by a cold laugh before he hung up.
「Somewhere in Jinling, on the rooftop of a high-rise.」
Hua Xiaotian morosely lowered the hand holding his phone. A look of helpless resignation clouded his face as he shook his head.
"How did it go, Master Hua?" one of his trusted subordinates asked anxiously from a few feet behind him.
"He said, ’Anyone who stands in my way will die.’" Shaking his head in self-mockery, Hua Xiaotian turned around. He looked at his subordinate’s horrified expression and continued, "Notify everyone. All members of the Guardian Institute are to withdraw from Jinling immediately! Since we can’t change things, we’ll just have to run away. At least we’ll have the comforting lie that we tried."
As he finished speaking, his mournful expression was filled with bitterness. He remembered what his master, Qilian the Demi Immortal, had once told him: the Guardian Institute of today was nothing more than a pile of dogshit. Only now did he truly understand.
Without lingering, Hua Xiaotian walked away. In the past, he had been a witness when the Du Family was slaughtered and the Qiao Family was annihilated. As the Director of the Guardian Institute, he could only watch helplessly as Qin Fan exacted his revenge. Now, facing the impending nightmare for the Bo Family, he was still powerless to change anything.
What an incompetent and failed Director I am! he lamented to himself with bitter sarcasm. Paying no more attention to the subordinate behind him, Hua Xiaotian’s figure vanished from the rooftop in an instant.
「On the balcony of the presidential suite.」
Qin Fan was sure that Hua Xiaotian wouldn’t be the only one to call and plead. A cold laugh escaped his lips as his gaze, fixed on the distant grand courtyard, filled with murderous intent.
BUZZ! BUZZ! BUZZ! Not long after he had hung up on Hua Xiaotian, his phone buzzed again. It was an unknown number with no caller ID.
"Hello," Qin Fan said coolly, sliding his finger across the screen to answer.
"Hello, young friend Qin Fan. I am Wang Anshi," a gentle voice said. On the other end of the line, sitting at a desk in Beijing, Old Wang held the receiver with a slight smile.
"Wang Anshi? Who? Do I know you?" Qin Fan furrowed his brows, momentarily forgetting the name.
The other end of the phone fell silent. Old Wang was stunned. He doesn’t know me? Qin Fan actually doesn’t recognize my name? Is he toying with me?
"You don’t know me?" After a few seconds of stunned silence, Old Wang asked, his brow furrowed in disbelief.
"No. Is there a reason I should?" Qin Fan chuckled, his tone playful.
"Ah, you’re right. Then allow me to introduce myself. I am Wang Anshi, and I’m calling from Beijing," Old Wang said, reining in a flash of anger.
