Chapter 613: Chapter 588: Countdown!_4
"Bao Qiudong! Oh, Bao Qiudong! I, Bo Xianmin, thought you would be my pride, but I never imagined you could be so stupid! You had someone kidnap Qin Fan’s girlfriend, and you call that ’doing nothing’? And another thing, did kidnapping a few people require you to get involved personally? That man managed to abduct Chang Yuanyi; do you think kidnapping one more person would be a problem for him? In the end, the other party’s goal was to drag you into this! Their plan to drive Qin Fan insane wasn’t just to kill Chang Yuanyi and overthrow the Chang Family! They also want Qin Fan to kill you! They want Qin Fan to destroy our entire Bo Family! Only then can the conflict be maximized! The Chang Family, the Bo Family... just imagine the earth-shattering impact if both were annihilated at the same time. At that point, even the powers that be, no matter how reluctant, would be forced to act! But now, it’s just the Bo Family. Can we alone push them to that point? Ah! Ah! Ah! Hah! Ridiculous, absolutely ridiculous! To think that the son I was so proud of would end up being so foolish as to become a stepping stone for the Chang Family’s rise! With the Bo Family gone, the Chang Family will be unstoppable in the future! Unstoppable!"
Grinding his teeth, Bo Xianmin wrenched his foot from Bao Qiudong’s desperate grasp and viciously kicked him in the chest.
At that moment, he felt like a complete failure. He knew Bao Qiudong had been so foolish only because he was blinded by hatred. But no matter how much one loses their sanity, they shouldn’t lose their fundamental sense of restraint, their very ability to think! It was an obvious trap, a deathtrap with no chance of survival, yet Bao Qiudong had still foolishly jumped right in.
After delivering the kick, Bo Xianmin threw his arms wide and sank back onto the sofa, a ferocious look on his pale face. "Haha! Hahahaha! Stupid, so stupid, utterly stupid!" In that moment, the continuous laughter revealed the complete, crushing defeat of this immensely proud man.
"Bo Xianmin! Have you gone mad? He’s your son! He’s your son!"
The noblewoman had endured it when he slapped Bao Qiudong twice, but she couldn’t bear seeing him kick their son in the chest. She frantically helped Bao Qiudong up and shrieked hysterically at Bo Xianmin, "Is this the time to be beating your son? Huh?! You should be thinking about how to handle this situation!"
"Handle it?" Bo Xianmin let out a weary, ghastly laugh. "I’m afraid I can’t handle this."
"You can’t handle a situation on your own turf? Is the only courage you have left for kicking your own son? Bo Xianmin, can’t you act like a man? Can’t you protect your son! I’m asking you, can you?!" the mother, frantic for her child, continued to scream.
Protect him? This isn’t the Chang Family we’re facing! It’s Qin Fan! A bastard who operates outside of all the rules! The annihilation of the Qiao Family was swept under the rug, so what do I have to protect anyone with? What?! Forget protecting Bao Qiudong, our entire family of three could be dragged to Hell at any moment!
But Bo Xianmin didn’t want to say any more. He took a deep breath, his eyes trembling with unconcealed fear as he picked up the cell phone from the sofa and dialed a number he had never called before. This was his last straw, the ’death-exemption medal’ his Bo Family ancestors had left for him, but he had no idea if it would work.
"Dad!"
Seeing Bo Xianmin stand up with his phone, Bao Qiudong, who had been kicked aside, scrambled and crawled frantically back to his father’s side, grabbing his leg again. At this moment, where was even a shred of the dignified Young Master Bo?
"You worthless piece of shit!" Bo Xianmin roared. "Look at you! What do you look like? A dog! A dead dog! Are you still my fucking son? Are you even worthy of being my son?! Get up! A descendant of the Bo Family must die on their feet! This pathetic, dog-like groveling of yours is a disgrace to the honor of our ancestors!"
Resisting the urge to kick him again, Bo Xianmin’s emotions finally erupted. Overcome with panic and turmoil, he roared hysterically, completely forgetting how long it had been since he had last sworn. In this moment of total emotional collapse, it seemed he was holding nothing back.
"Bo Xianmin! Have you lost your mind?! Tell me, have you gone completely insane?!" his wife screamed, rushing toward him as she heard his crazed swearing.
"Get out of my way!" He shoved her onto the sofa.
Bo Xianmin shook off Bao Qiudong, gritted his teeth, and pressed the numbers on his phone. Without a second glance at his son or another thought for his stunned wife, he strode quickly onto the balcony.
RING... RING... RING...
RING... RING... RING...
「Somewhere in Beijing.」
An urgent ringing suddenly pierced the silence. Though it was deep into the night, several elderly men were gathered together. No summons had been necessary; they had known for the last half hour that this would be a sleepless night.
"As expected, it’s ringing," the old man in the office chair said with bitter resignation, his eyes sweeping over the other men in the room.
They all exchanged glances, but no one replied. They didn’t know what to say. At that moment, every face was etched with grave concern.
Not waiting for a response, the old man in the chair simply shook his head and picked up the phone. "Xianmin?" he said directly.
"Elder Wang, can this situation be mediated?" Bo Xianmin asked, getting straight to the point. "I’m willing to pay any price. As long as he names his conditions, I will promise to do anything within my power! I just want to weather this storm with my family safe and sound. That is all I ask!"
The elder was silent for a moment, then sighed. "I can only say that I will do my best."
