Chapter 277: Chapter 224: Historic Cooperation between the Red Dragon and the Church

It’s a trap!

Facing the Bishop’s offer, Zog’s first thought was that it was a trap.

’It makes no sense,’ he thought. ’Why would the Lord of Hell want to see me? We don’t even know each other.’

Besides, ever since the war with Hell ended, the Gate of Hell had been under the Church’s control.

Although they claimed to have sealed off all communication with Hell, no one actually believed them.

Compared to the followers of Hell who used petty, evil rituals to summon Low Tier Demons or Devils, the Church’s understanding of Hell’s creatures was far greater.

You couldn’t exactly say they were in cahoots, but they were certainly cut from the same cloth.

Of course, there was no proof of this—it was just Zog’s draconic speculation. He never hesitated to assume the worst intentions when it came to the Church.

"Heh." Zog gave a slight smile. ’I see right through you!’

"No need to trouble yourselves. We’re confident we can solve this problem on our own," he tactfully refused.

"Mr. Zhuoge, are you certain? With the Church’s resources, we could get to the bottom of this very quickly."

The Bishop seemed quite confident he could get Zog to go to Hell. "Every day this goes unresolved is another day the Magic Vision Device has no audience, isn’t it? And every one of those days is a complete loss."

The scales on Zog’s face twitched slightly.

Even one day of lost earnings made his heart bleed.

Still, Zog resisted. "Not going!"

He pretended to be resolute. "Unless you can get the Magic Goddess herself to come out here, I’m not going!"

He was acting tough, but not that tough.

The Magic Goddess was still someone to be feared.

"I agree. You shouldn’t go," Furin chimed in from the side.

"If you agree to meet with the Lord of Hell, the Pope’s Country promises to fully open its borders to imports from the Zog Group and provide tax subsidies," the Bishop said.

"Hmph!" Furin was unimpressed. "You think a little benefit like that is enough to make Zog take such a risk—"

"Deal!"

Zog said without the slightest hesitation.

Furin’s expression was one of utter shock. She looked at Zog in disbelief.

Her look seemed to ask, ’Are you really that cheap of a Dragon?’

Zog shrugged innocently. "Do you have any idea how big the market in the Pope’s Country is?"

He couldn’t help it; the profit was worth the risk.

Though he had agreed quickly, Zog had already run the calculations in his head.

A trip to Hell certainly had its risks, but they were within an acceptable range.

Back in the day, when one could still enter and exit Hell freely, he had been there. He had even crossed blades with Asmodis, the Devil Duke who ruled the entire Nine Layers of Hell.

Back then, neither had been able to get the upper hand.

And the Zog of today was even stronger. Dragons were the type of creature that, barring the end of their lifespan, simply grew stronger with age—it was an unreasonable fact of life. He just hadn’t seen any major action in the last few decades.

Even if there was an ambush, he should be able to escape.

Besides, if he remembered correctly, the original Asmodis, in his true Devil form, had possessed a Demigod Body. He’d been taken out by a bona fide god during the war with the Divine Race.

Since then, the name had just become a title for each successive Lord of Hell, none of whom possessed the power of the original.

In exchange, he’d gain access to the Pope’s Country’s market and help with the Magic Vision Device’s signal hijacking problem.

Worth it!

"Let’s sign a Contract, as a testament to our friendship."

Zog somehow produced a Contract out of thin air.

There was no friendship between him and the Bishop, but they certainly needed a witness to the deal.

What if the Church was just making empty promises?

"Very good. A pleasure doing business with you."

The Bishop signed his name on the Contract and reached out to shake Zog’s claw.

With the deal struck, the Bishop left behind the time and place for opening the Gate of Hell, then teleported away.

Leaving the mess in Twin Tower City behind.

"Wait, what good is a Magic Contract against the Magic Goddess? Is there any contract She can’t break?"

Seeing that the Church members had all left, Furin asked in confusion. She wondered if Zog had lost his mind. Using a Magic Contract to restrain the people of the Magic Goddess—what was the difference between that and throwing a meat bun at a dog?

"If the Goddess really was behind this, then to be honest, the Church wouldn’t have needed to offer terms in the first place."

Zog replied matter-of-factly.

"Er..."

Hearing Zog’s explanation, Furin suddenly felt he had a point. Still, her intuition told her that the whole affair reeked of a setup.

"I’ll go to Hell with you," Furin said. "If it’s an adventure, we should at least form an adventuring party, right?"

"Eh, I don’t want to be dragged down by a clumsy Golden Dragon. You Metal Dragons are all blockheads, completely unsuited for adventuring," Zog said with feigned disgust.

"What’s that supposed to mean?!"

"It’s the truth. Metal Dragons are always going on about this principle or that creed. You have no flexibility at all."

"Huh? It’s called being principled, you get it? You bunch of unprincipled Five-Color Dragons are the real psychos!"

Evidently, the phenomenon of mutual disdain within the Dragon Race was quite severe.

Furin cursed Zog out, thoroughly displeased. She was just trying to be nice, and here this damn Dragon was, being an ass.

Zog didn’t argue. Instead, he suddenly pulled Furin into a big hug, holding her so tight she was left speechless.

"Twin Tower City needs you more. We can’t lift the Illusion Technique without the best illusion master on the Continent. When I get back from Hell, we can..."

Furin raised a hand to cut Zog off.

"Didn’t you say this kind of talk is called ’raising a death flag’? It’s bad luck. Whatever you want to say, say it after you come back."

"Fine then, I won’t come back. I’ll find a Little Desire Demon in Hell and make do. Don’t worry, I’ll be thinking of you."

Before Zog could finish, Furin shoved him away and followed up with a kick.

"You psycho! Get lost! Go on, get lost! The farther the better! Hurry up and get to Hell, I’m sick of looking at you!"
