Chapter 274: Chapter 222: From Hell
"Stay calm. What’s going on?" Zog’s tone grew serious as well.
Furin, sensing something was wrong, also leaned in closer to the phone.
"The Magic Vision Device," she started. "Tonight, during the commercial break for *Feilin’s Best Songs*, the video feed on some of the channels was swapped out."
Elsa displayed excellent professionalism. Despite being only in her early twenties and facing a major crisis, she managed to quickly compose herself.
"It was swapped with a symbol and a repetitive prayer. Many of the viewers who saw the footage have started acting abnormally. Mr. Soron speculates that an Illusion Technique was cast through the Magic Vision Devices, but we don’t know how yet."
"Were the video and audio recorded?" Furin interjected from the side.
"We have a recording, Teacher. But now isn’t the time to analyze how it works. There’s a more pressing issue. The viewers who were affected... well, just look out on the street."
Hearing this, Zog walked to the window and pulled open the curtains.
Of course, the windows in the game room were always kept curtained—an essential part of the gaming experience.
Zog had thought it sounded a bit noisy outside just now, but he hadn’t paid it much mind.
Twin Tower City was a noisy, boisterous place to begin with. The various intermingled races each had their own festivals—so many it was impossible to keep track. A city-wide celebration could break out on any given day.
He’d just assumed another race was celebrating a holiday.
There were plenty of screams coming from the streets.
But that was normal, too.
For instance, the Beastmen had a bizarre festival where they would release Petrification bulls onto the streets. Then, a whole crowd of Beastmen, forbidden from using weapons or armor, would get chased all over the city by the bulls.
According to them, it was an opportunity to display the Beastmen’s wisdom, courage, skill, and willpower.
Screams were inevitable on the streets at times like that.
Zog stuck his head out the window. He hadn’t realized the extent of it, but one look confirmed this was far from your average ruckus.
Large crowds of people with red eyes were indiscriminately attacking passersby.
They were also storming into the shops lining the street, smashing everything in sight. This wasn’t looting, though; they didn’t take anything, they just engaged in pure destruction.
Thick smoke billowed from ignited storefronts, and innocent people could be seen everywhere, running and screaming.
The entire city was now as chaotic as a giant, out-of-control kitchen.
Zog couldn’t help but widen his eyes.
’What in the hell is this?’
’Is this still Twin Tower City? Huh?!’
’At this point, it might as well be Gotham.’
In the past, Zog didn’t care much about the chaos that occurred among other races.
It didn’t have much to do with him; he’d just watch it as entertainment.
But now, he had to care.
Among the shops being smashed by these people under the Illusion Technique, many belonged to the Zog Group!
That was all his money!
Zog was instantly filled with rage. It wasn’t just the destroyed shops; every innocent passerby getting beaten up was also a potential customer for the Zog Group.
’If they’re beaten, maimed, and can’t earn money, how are they going to buy Zog Group products?’
’It’s one outrage on top of another!’
He was about to charge out and defend his money. He had one leg over the windowsill, ready to leap down and make a heroic entrance.
’Wait, something’s not right.’
He turned to Furin to confirm. "Their condition—is it an Illusion Technique?"
"Should be," Furin nodded. "It’s similar to some kind of mind-affecting Illusion Technique, but I’m not sure which one. I’ve never seen one like this before."
Zog glanced at her, somewhat shocked.
Furin might not know every spell in existence, but in the specialized field of Illusion Techniques, she had never uttered the words "I’ve never seen one like this." She could usually figure them out with a single glance.
’Seems like while we’ve been climbing the magical tech tree, other people on the Continent haven’t been sitting idle.’
"Is there a way to dispel it?" Zog asked again.
’If they’re under an Illusion Technique, then they’re victims, too. Using extreme measures on them wouldn’t be right.’
’If there’s a chance to save them, that’s the priority. No killing unless it’s the last resort.’
’Every person we save is another potential customer for the Zog Group.’
’The most consumer-friendly Dragon!’
"Give me some time. I should be able to dispel it."
Hearing Furin’s answer, Zog nodded, jumped out the window, and instead of making a heroic landing, he let out a roar in mid-air.
The roar of an Ancient Dragon carried immense pressure.
The frenzied rioters on the street immediately fell into a panic. Most squatted on the ground in terror, clutching their heads and trembling uncontrollably.
In more severe cases, they were scared unconscious.
’The legendary Conqueror’s Roar.’
’It’s effective.’
’Good, that simplifies things.’
Although this method would also frighten those not under the Illusion Technique into a panic, there was no more efficient way to end the chaos in a short time.
Anyway, a Dragon’s roar wouldn’t cause any long-term side effects. At most, they might shiver uncontrollably whenever they heard a similar sound in the future.
"Get Doudou. Meet at headquarters."
After saying this to Furin, Zog flew off to find the elders of the Mage Guild.
He needed to quickly gather the city’s high-level combatants to quell the chaos and minimize the losses.
While flying through the sky, Zog witnessed an even stranger sight.
Some unlucky souls were tied up in strange positions, surrounded by a crowd holding torches and performing twisted dances, as if conducting an evil ritual.
And after a brief convulsion, the people in the ritual would sprout horns like a ram’s from their heads.
Transforming into a form similar to a Tiefling.
In other words, the hybrid form of a Devil and a Human.
A small, widely disliked race.
’What kind of biological dark tech is this? It can turn people directly into hybrids?’
’Does that mean it could also turn a hybrid completely into a Devil?’
Zog grew agitated. The current situation looked a lot like Hell was preparing to invade again.
There had been many wars against the Hell Devils and Demons, some large, some small.
The most recent one was about three hundred years ago.
That one ended in a major victory for the Continent’s Alliance Army.
The expeditionary force, led by the Church, even charged directly into the Hell Plane, beating the enemy on their own home turf.
Although Zog wasn’t fond of the Church, he had to admit that when the Continent was in trouble, they truly stepped up.
They were the type to fight to the death, without a second thought for their own lives.
After that, the Hell Plane quieted down. There weren’t even any incidents of stray Demon attacks on the Continent.
Everyone believed the Devils had been beaten into submission.
If not for the extreme difficulty of an expedition into Hell and the lack of a plan to secure supply lines, the Church might have wiped out the Devils and Demons completely last time.
Their resurgence now was not good news.
Zog wasn’t in the business of war profiteering. The more stable society was, the better it was for his ventures.
Who would be in the mood to buy toys, follow Shadow of Evil, or play games when creatures from Hell were invading?
Soon, three Ancient Dragons and the elders of the Mage Guild had all gathered at the Zog Group Headquarters.
With this much combat power, forgetting Twin Tower City, they could conquer a small nation with ease.
However, the goal of this operation wasn’t conquest or destruction, but to ensure that losses were minimized.
As the single most powerful individual on site, Zog temporarily took command.
"Soron, you contact the City Lord’s Mansion. Have all able-bodied members of the Guard Corps gather in the slums. My Beastmen and Zor will meet them there. They have twenty minutes. We can’t help anyone who doesn’t evacuate in that time."
Then he looked at El. "Master El, I need you and the other elders to figure out a way to restrain the victims. The panic won’t last long.
"Doudou, Furin, and I will finish suppressing the city with panic as quickly as possible, leaving a small part of the slums untouched. Then the Beastman Zor and the Guard Corps will filter out those on the streets who are under the Illusion Technique. After that, it’ll be up to all of you to restrain them."
"Understood," the Old Elf nodded.
As the Chairman of the Mage Guild, Saint El was a good Mage with a strong sense of social responsibility.
"Master Xiao Xiong, get ready. I need you to teleport me to a designated location."
Somewhat embarrassingly for a Dragon, both Furin and Doudou could teleport themselves, but the "uneducated" Zog could not.
"Are you really *that* Zog?" Master Xiao Xiong asked belatedly.
"Hahaha, amazing, isn’t it? Surprise!" Zog still had the presence of mind to crack a joke.
Then, he revealed his true form.
After a century, the Unforeseen Calamity, Ancient Red Dragon Zog, descended upon Twin Tower City once again.
