Chapter 251: Elder Caron Attacks
BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The underground tunnel exploded outward violently as darkness surged from Caron like a tidal wave. The walls cracked instantly while ancient runes hidden throughout the tunnel activated one after another. Caron had prepared this place beforehand, of course, he had. The old fox had never intended to die quietly. Black mist spread rapidly through the underground passage, swallowing light itself. The temperature plummeted unnaturally as whispers echoed through the darkness. Hallucinations. Fear manipulation.
Iset immediately reacted.
"Bloom."
FWOOOOOSH!
Gigantic glowing vines erupted around her and Baset, creating a spherical barrier of living plants. The black mist slammed against it violently, sizzling as the plants purified parts of the darkness, but even then, the vines began decaying slowly. Caron stepped backward into the darkness calmly, his long robes fluttering.
"You really came prepared."
His voice echoed from every direction simultaneously. Baset stared into the darkness silently, his golden eyes glowing. A massive summoning formation exploded under him.
BOOOOOOOM!!!
The tunnel shook violently as a gigantic claw burst from the formation first. Then another followed.
ROOOOOOOOOOOOAR!!!
A monstrous beast crawled out. It resembled a massive black lion with silver bones protruding from parts of its body. Three crimson eyes glowed on its face while chains wrapped around its limbs endlessly.
A Tier 3 beast. The Gravefang Lion. Its mere presence distorted the tunnel from pressure alone.
"So you brought that thing," Caron clicked his tongue. The lion roared again and charged.
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
Entire sections of the tunnel vanished as the beast crashed through them like paper. Caron’s body dissolved into black smoke before the claws reached him, making the lion strike empty air.
SHLINK!
Dark spears erupted from the shadows underneath the beast instantly. The Gravefang Lion roared in pain as several spears pierced through its armored hide. Baset frowned slightly. The shadows moved unnaturally. Caron’s voice echoed calmly again.
"You know..." A pair of glowing pale eyes appeared briefly in the mist. "I always hated fighting beast tamers." The shadows suddenly erupted.
BOOOOOOOOM!!!
Hundreds of skeletal arms burst from the ground simultaneously, grabbing onto the Gravefang Lion’s limbs. The beast roared and tore through them violently, but more appeared endlessly. Then the whispers intensified. Iset’s expression changed.
"Baset."
"I know."
The whispers weren’t targeting the beast; they were targeting their minds. Caron’s dark arts had evolved again. Baset slammed his hand onto the ground, and another formation appeared. Then another, and another. The tunnel exploded with summoning circles.
SCREEEEEEEECH!!!
A gigantic crimson hawk emerged first, wings shredding the darkness apart with wind pressure alone. Then came a six-armed gorilla covered in stone armor, and a serpent made entirely of molten lava. Three Tier 2 peak beasts simultaneously. The pressure became monstrous.
Caron laughed softly within the darkness. "Always overwhelming your enemies with numbers..." The darkness behind him suddenly split open, and something stepped out. Iset’s eyes narrowed instantly. It was a humanoid creature, tall and thin, covered entirely in funeral cloth. Its face was hidden beneath a cracked black mask. The moment it appeared, the temperature dropped further. Even Baset’s beasts became restless.
"That thing again..." Iset muttered grimly.
Caron smiled faintly.
"My Wraith Keeper has missed battle."
The masked creature vanished instantly.
BOOOOOOOM!!!
The six-armed gorilla exploded backward through several walls as though struck by a mountain. It was fast, far too fast. Baset’s eyes sharpened. The Gravefang Lion lunged again while the crimson hawk attacked from above simultaneously, but the Wraith Keeper twisted unnaturally. Its movements looked wrong.
SHLINK!
Its black fingers pierced directly into the hawk’s wing, ripping through mana and flesh simultaneously, making the hawk scream. Then, darkness spread across its body rapidly.
Corruption. Baset’s expression darkened. This was bad. Caron wasn’t merely strong. He specialized in anti-beast combat, which made sense. If Derek was the blade, then Caron had always been the cleaner, the one who erased evidence afterward.
Iset suddenly raised both hands, and the entire underground tunnel trembled.
"Worldroot Domain."
BOOOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The ground exploded open. Massive glowing roots erupted everywhere violently, tearing through the underground corridors and bursting toward the surface above. The roots expanded endlessly, flooding the battlefield with life energy. Flowers bloomed instantly. Trees erupted from stone. The darkness retreated slightly.
Caron’s smile finally disappeared. Iset floated upward amidst countless glowing leaves, her green eyes now fully radiant.
"This ends now."
The roots moved, and the entire underground battlefield transformed into a war between death and life itself.
...
Far away from the chaos consuming the Shadow Fang Sect... Far beyond the Obsidian Citadel... Deep within a forbidden region where even elders rarely set foot, a man slowly opened his eyes. Golden light flooded the darkness instantly. The cave he sat in was enormous, ancient beyond comprehension, with walls covered in faded hieroglyphs and gigantic skeletal remains embedded in black stone. Massive chains thicker than buildings stretched across the cavern endlessly, disappearing into the darkness below.
At the center of it all sat the man cross-legged. The moment his eyes opened, the cave trembled from his presence alone. The air became heavier as the ancient chains rattled softly and dust fell from the ceiling.
His appearance was calm, almost ordinary. Long black hair flowed behind him like ink while golden markings spread faintly across his dark skin. He wore simple robes, but the deeper one looked, the more impossible it became to truly focus on him. It was as if reality itself refused to fully perceive him. His golden eyes stared into the distance.
Past mountains, past barriers, and past the sect itself, straight toward the battle underground, toward Caron.
"I might have to step in..." The man sighed softly. The golden glow in his eyes intensified. "...before he releases the dead king’s corpse."
BOOOOOOOOOOM!!!
The entire cavern shook violently. The gigantic chains stretched tighter instantly as black liquid spread briefly across the abyss beneath the cavern. The man stared downward silently and stood. The moment his feet touched the ground, space distorted slightly around him and folded inward. The hieroglyphs across the walls began glowing one after another as though bowing to his presence.
The man closed his eyes briefly and disappeared.
