Chapter 1423: Chapter 812: Luming’s Triumphant Return and Reunion
After Xie Qianyun woke up that day, her body noticeably improved day by day.
On the fifth day of resting in bed, she finally sat in a makeshift wheelchair and got out of bed.
Once out of bed, she had her subordinate push her directly to Wu Huahao’s tent.
When Wu Huahao’s legs were disabled, she had already heard while recovering from her injuries. She knew Wu Huahao would find it hard to accept such a blow, anyone would, and she didn’t know how she could comfort him, but she wanted to see him.
Inside the tent, Wu Huahao lay on the bed, his stubble was quite evident, and his eyes stared blankly at the ceiling, devoid of light.
The Wu Huahao in her memory was still the sunny, handsome, passionate youth, yet now he suddenly seemed as if his world had lost its brilliance, becoming dim and lonely.
"You all may leave," Xie Qianyun instructed her subordinates.
Everyone respectfully exited the tent.
Xie Qianyun, with some effort, pushed her wheelchair toward Wu Huahao’s bedside.
Having hardly used a wheelchair before, it was indeed not as easy to handle as she thought.
She stopped beside Wu Huahao’s bed, looking at him.
Watching him, he finally turned his head to look at her.
His eyes flickered slightly.
Xie Qianyun smiled slightly, "Didn’t think I’d be alive after being mauled by wolves and left unrecognizable, did you?"
Wu Huahao’s Adam’s apple visibly moved.
Even though he’d been lying on that bed all this time, he would occasionally ask about her condition.
He knew she was in critical condition, and he also knew she survived thanks to the Empress Dowager’s medical skills.
Seeing her now still stirred something inside him.
A large scar marred Xie Qianyun’s face, on the right side, not yet fully healed, with a ghastly blood-red color, shocking to behold.
Not only on her face.
Her exposed neck and hands also bore gruesome scars.
Wu Huahao’s eyes suddenly turned slightly red.
He had been holding it in, holding it in since he learned his legs were disabled, that he could never stand again, which hurt him more than death, but he never cried, not shedding a single tear. He was a man, a towering man of the Iron Cavalry Army, bleeding but not crying!
Yet now, seeing Xie Qianyun in such a state, smiling so brilliantly and purely at him, made him unable to hold back, tears flowed like a spring.
It wasn’t just out of sympathy for Xie Qianyun, but for himself as well. It was the shared tragic fate that made him feel sad; he couldn’t remember the last time he cried, and now, he wept uncontrollably like a ghost.
Xie Qianyun did not mock Wu Huahao.
She stayed quietly by his side, her own eyes seemingly reddened, yet she held back.
In reality, when she looked at herself in the copper mirror, she was just like Wu Huahao.
Unable to express how sorrowful she was, yet the tears were uncontrollable, pouring down in large drops.
She scared both her mother and father out of their wits then.
After all, from childhood to adulthood, no matter how they punished her, no matter how serious the injuries were, she never cried like that.
But thankfully, Xie Qianyun quickly reined in her emotions.
She soon accepted the fact that she was disfigured.
She also accepted such an unsightly version of herself.
Now, rather, she couldn’t let go of Wu Huahao.
She feared he would find it harder to accept.
After all, even with her disfigured face, she could still take care of herself, she could still lead troops and fight in battles, defend her country.
But Wu Huahao?!
His dreams would end here.
Wu Huahao cried for a long time.
He cried until he almost couldn’t breathe.
Xie Qianyun was exceedingly patient at first, staying with him as he cried, but later she couldn’t take it anymore.
A grown man crying for a short while was understandable.
But this crying went on for at least two hours.
It was as if he would weep until the heavens collapsed.
"Have you had enough?" Xie Qianyun couldn’t help shouting at him.
Wu Huahao looked at her through tearful eyes.
With stubble all over his mouth, looking like a rough man, he unexpectedly now had a little sense of grievance and shyness.
Xie Qianyun was speechless.
"I’m hurting," Wu Huahao choked out.
The more he cried, the more he hurt.
The more he hurt, the more he wanted to cry.
And then it just wouldn’t stop.
Now he finally understood why women loved to cry so much.
Because crying was truly cathartic.
He had been suppressing it all along, and it was really too painful.
Now, crying with no restraints really felt like, indeed, it was much easier.
"Don’t be sad anymore, I’ll take you out for a walk," Xie Qianyun said.
She also knew that ever since Wu Huahao found out about his disabled legs, he wouldn’t let people come close and had been lying in bed, like this, for half a month straight.
