. The moment we drove in, I was hooked. I’m a freak for designs, probably due to the fact that I’m an illustrator. And this building was a masterpiece. I couldn’t help but appreciate the intricate details with my eyes.

As an introvert, I wasn’t familiar with many places. I wondered how Ade had discovered it, especially given his current condition the place looked incredibly exotic. I knew Ade had money, but this was on a whole different level.

"Madam," The driver said in his thick Nigerian accent, jolting me out of my thoughts.

"Oh, yes yes" I mumbled, stirring from my thoughts. I carefully retrieved the flower I had purchased for Ade and got out of the vehicle.

I smoothed the nonexistent wrinkles on my blouse as I stood by the restaurant entrance, mentally preparing myself to face Ade.

The doors suddenly swung open and Ade’s deep voice warmed my ears with his unsettling yet endearing words of praise. "My senorita mamacita, ticalicious molotinous."

I burst out laughing. "Do you even know what you’re saying?"!I asked, amused.

"It rhymed, didn’t it?" He replied with a grin, pulling me close for a kiss. I didn’t resist, but as our lips leaned in, I noticed a small stain on his lips.

"Wait, there’s something…" I said, gently brushing it off with my thumb.

Ade pulled away and turned to the side, attempting to dislodge whatever was on his lips. He tried to brush it off, his fingers mirroring my earlier gesture.

"All good?" he asked after a while turning to show me his lips.

"Yeah, I think you’ve got it."

He didn’t attempt to kiss me again. Instead, he held my hands, and that’s when I remembered the flowers. "Oh, here," I said, offering them to him.

"Aww, you’re the sweetest," he murmured with admiration, but instead of taking the flowers, he reached for his phone to capture a photo.

"What are you doing? At least acknowledge the flowers by holding them before you thank me on the internet," I pointed out, my small voice coming out more playful than I intended. Ade simply took the flowers, inhaling their scent before holding out his phone for a selfie. "Come on, smile!" exclaimed, his eyes sparkling with excitement.

I smiled awkwardly. When he tried taking another picture, I leaned in, attempting to pose in the cute way I’d seen couples do. But just as I was striking a pose, Ade pulled his phone back into his pocket and said, "Shall we go in?"

I composed myself and followed Ade to the top floor. "I booked the entire space for us to sit and talk." He explained as we stepped out of the elevator.

"That’s thoughtful of you." I replied. "We do have a lot to discuss about our relationship. Because it’s growing ’K’ leg, and I’m not going to—" I trailed off mid-sentence as Ade led me to a table where Sophie was seated. "What is she doing here?"

"What am I doing here? Are you seriously asking that, Chelsea?" Sophie questioned me, sounding hurt.

"Don’t get me wrong, Sophie. But This was supposed to be a moment between my boyfriend and me."

"You should even be grateful that Ade asked to do this if not ehn, you would have long been extinct in my memory." Sophie said fuming.

I pursed my lips, the situation was starting to weigh heavily on me. "Ask to do what exactly? As far as I know, I haven’t spoken to him for a while now, so if he’s doing anything, it’s probably because you’ve spoken to him about it."

Either it had surprised her that I didn’t discuss her with, Ade, or she was simply vexed at how casually I took the matter. Or perhaps it was both. Because in an instant, she was on her feet, grabbing her bag and attempting to storm past me, but my boyfriend intervened.

"Oh, Ade leave me." She exclaimed, repeatedly as she tried to push past him. Meanwhile, my boyfriend begged her to calm down.

I, on the other hand, took a seat nearby, in a spot where I could observe them both clearly.

As Sophie’s voice continued to rise, I began to understand the real reason why my boyfriend had booked the entire space. He had anticipated a scene like this, and his foresight was impressively thoughtful. I acknowledged this to myself as I observed him trying to calm Sophie down.

With no immediate resolution in sight, I decided to occupy myself by tidying my nails, but they were already neat. Just then I noticed a small stain on my thumb that caught my attention.

At first I thought I was bleeding but it looked to be a stain. A brownish stain. I sighed in relief.

I quickly averted my gaze from my thumb when I noticed Sophie was now seated, only to find her... crying.

My heart skipped a beat.

But it wasn’t her tears that caused my heart to race - it was the smudged lipstick that had escaped her lips, a telltale sign of her distress. I redirected my attention to my thumb, remembering that I had wiped off the same stain from Ade’s lips earlier."

No way..

I took deep breaths to steady myself, but they offered little comfort. My instincts screamed at me to lash out - to shout at the both of them, to hurl a table in their direction, and storm out in a blaze of fury. But somehow, I knew exactly how that would play out. What I didn’t know was what would happen if I resisted my impulses. So, I approached the situation calmly.

"Ade, how’s your arm doing?"

Ade looked at me as if I had suddenly grown three heads. "Man, are you serious? Your best friend is crying."

I nodded calmly. "I see that, and I’ll address it with her shortly. But first I want to ensure you’re okay, you know me well enough that I don’t dwell on issues for long.
