I melg when he the Ed to me . Turns out, it was a football field, or should I say a pitch, since it’s on the smaller side.

Shocking how I only realized today that Adam belonged to a crew. A dance crew with Barnabas being their leader. Barnabas wanted me to come and watch them rehearse for a bit. But I’d be lying if I said I second-glanced at Barnabas whenever my eyes darted to where he was.

For a leader, he seemed to dance with no rhythm. Sure he did a good job at choreographing the moves to others, but when he does it, it doesn’t appear like he’s into it.

At least, from my perspective.

Hoodie guy- and yes, I’m yet to figure his actual name- stops doing stunts and comes to sit next to me. Apparently, he came to fetch a bottle of water situated next to me. But now he’s sitting.

Not able to let this opportunity of getting answers from him go to waste, I blurted "What did the frame do to make you angry?"

Remember when I said I don’t like talking because I was blunt and possibly didn’t know how to start a conversation? That is what is happening right now.

He looks at me. Like really looks at me. His eyes meet mine and he just stares, hard, like all my secrets are right there on my face. I’ve never seen eyes as dark as his. Maybe I have, but they seem darker when they’re attached to such an intimidating presence. He doesn’t answer my question, but my curiosity isn’t easily put to rest.

"Ah!" He mumbles and looks away as he recalls. "I thought you looked familiar the other time."

Not the answer I wanted to hear. I expected him to entertain me with answers to my nosy questions.

"Was it a woman?" I inquire. "Did she break your heart?"

He laughs a little with that question. "If only my issues were as trivial as matters of the heart."

Again, not the answer I wanted to hear.

And his voice!

I couldn’t tell which was more breath taking. His looks or his voice.

"Thank you for the other day." He suddenly says.

I frown. Thank me? What did I do?

"For saving the poor frame against your bloody feet?"

He laughs again and rubbed his forehead with his index and middle finger. He stays like this for a while, and I stare at him the entire time. He probably knows I’m staring, but he doesn’t seem to care.

"Partially,"

At that moment, I sudenely realized he possessed a trait of mine.

One worded replies.

Usually when I do it, it’s mainly because I don’t want/ know what to say. And it didn’t seem like a bad thing. Somehow, having someone do it to me makes me… Sad?

I don’t push on getting answers any further.

My gaze shifted to Barnbas, he was attempting a stunt with the other guys. His gaze caught mine and he ’honorably’ send a wink my way.

"So you came to watch your man dance, huh?"

His question somehow makes me feel cheap. It was too easy—an amateurish pickup line. Trying to find out if I have a thing for Barnabas or not. From the looks of this guy, I know he has better skills than that. It makes me think he saves the more difficult pickup lines for the women he deems worthy.

Or maybe I simply over reasoned his question.

"It’s nice what you lots do here."

From my peripheral, I sense him lift an eyebrow, waiting for more of an explanation.

"I Accompanied my friend here is all." I let him when he doesn’t stop staring.

Noticing he isn’t looking away, I turned to stare back. Usually, I’m the one with the intimidating aura, either during debates or when someone tries to hold a conversation - whatever really. But as I currently held his gaze, his dominating aura made me want to look away and let my eyes show submission.

But I don’t back down nor do I blink. He looks impressed.

"Nadia!" Adam and Barnabas calls as they stroll to my direction.

"Hi."

"I see you’ve met Gerald." Barnabas commented, acknowledging… the Gerald’s presence.

Gerald- he definitely looks like a Gerald. Not that I have met or seen an individual go by that name before.

Suits his physique.

"As you can see," Barnabas continued, pointing at the field. "This is what the homeboys and I do to boost our spirit and for fun. It can be said to be our talent."

Again, with that accent. And why is he speaking for the others? I wondered to myself.

"So, Nadie- ah"

"It’s Nadia." I corrected.

"Thats what I said."

Sure, man. Sure. I mumbled to myself, I don’t see a point helping him pronounce my name.

"Do you know how to dance? Or do have your own talent? I mean something you do for fun or some sort?"

I know what the word talent means. I wanted to snap at him but Adam beats me to giving a response.

"She does!" He brought out his phone and proceed to scroll through his gallery in search for something.

Knowing what that is, I made to snatch his phone from his hands but he was fast.

"Now, I want to see what it is too." Gerald chips in.

I stop attempting to collect Adam’s phone when I realized doing so would only make them more interested in finding out what talent (if it even belongs in that category ) , I have that I don’t want others to see.

Adam finally brought out the picture, and showed it to them.

Barnabas stares at it briefly and gave the phone to Gerald so he’d have a look too.

"You’re good but you need more guidance on your shadowing technique. I’ll show you how when you come to my house next time. I draw too but I’m more focused on dancing for now."
