Chapter 889 - Letter of Challenge
The True Martial God King’s face twitched with barely concealed fury. He, the great True Martial God King, had been struck in the most humiliating spot imaginable.
Even though it was the host’s body that had suffered and not his own, the shame remained seared into his memory.
This disgrace can never be known to the Divine Civilization! With that thought, the True Martial God King unleashed everything he had.
“Celestial Martial God Body!”
That was the Divine Ability available to him through the host. It multiplied all physical attributes by a factor of ten. The White Lotus Sect overseer was already a First-rate fighter, but with the Celestial Martial God Body enhancement, he ascended to a Top-tier fighter.
The True Martial God King closed the distance in a flash. His speed rivaled even lightning. Han Wu didn’t even have time to dodge before a blow sent him flying with devastating injuries.
Powerful. Overwhelming. Impossible to counter. Those were Han Wu’s only thoughts. A casual strike from the True Martial God King had nearly killed him.
The True Martial God King grinned cruelly. He had wanted Han Wu dead for a long time, and it seemed this would finally be the day that his wish was granted.
“Die!” the True Martial God King roared as he threw a punch.
This was his Martial God Strike. Even in a borrowed body, its power was enough to destroy a mountain.
All of Han Wu’s powers had been sealed since setting foot into the Martial Arts Civilization. He was certain that there wouldn’t be anything left of him if he took this hit unprotected.
Left with no other choice, he used his trump card: Divine Invocation. Unlike the overseer of the White Lotus Sect, he invoked himself. It had a 100% compatibility and effectively unsealed a portion of his true power.
This allowed him to temporarily use one Divine Jurisdiction, one Divine Authority, one Divine Aspect, and one ability. He chose the Duel Jurisdiction, Divine Authority 1, Destruction Aspect, and Undying.
Power surged through his body, pushing him to be a peak First-rate fighter. There was still some distance until he became a Top-tier fighter, but that gap was negligible.
“Die!” Han Wu roared.
Duel Jurisdiction granted him the Duel God Physique. Although weaker than the Celestial Martial God Body’s raw amplification, it had one critical advantage: it grew stronger through combat.
Divine Authority 1 materialized as a greatsword, which Han Wu gripped in his left hand and used to block the True Martial God King’s blow.
The Destruction Aspect wrapped both Peerless and the greatsword in destructive energy, granting them a flat 25% chance of instant kill.
Finally, Undying kept him alive long enough to push the Duel God Physique to its fullest potential.
“Skyshell!”
All of Han Wu’s stored internal energy erupted at once, taking the form of a Black Tortoise that shielded him from the True Martial God King’s killing blow. Han Wu dual-wielded the greatsword and Peerless as he assailed the True Martial God King with relentless blows.
Every strike carried a 25% chance of instant death, regardless of whether he was up against an equal or a weaker opponent. While the True Martial God King’s Divine Jurisdiction could neutralize this effect, it came at a cost. Every nullified kill was converted into a critical hit that inflicted ten times the damage.
The True Martial God King could’ve endured this in his real body, but the host’s body wasn’t that durable. He estimated that he could tank five critical hits at most. The fight became a war of attrition. With Undying in play, nobody could outlast Han Wu.
Five seconds. That was all it took for the host body to become so badly injured that the True Martial God King was forced out of the Divine Invocation.
“Han Wu, the next time we meet will be your last day alive,” the True Martial God King cried out before he left. “In the meantime, try not to die at that madwoman’s hands!”
Then he was gone.
Han Wu cut off the overseer’s head with Peerless. His Duel Jurisdiction absorbed the combat experience and fed it back into his body, improving his physical condition by roughly 10%.
Even though that didn’t sound like much, it was enough to let him channel one additional ability the next time he used Divine Invocation. With that, Han Wu dismissed the Divine Invocation state while pondering over the True Martial God King’s parting words.
Die at what madwoman’s hands? Clueless as to what those words could mean, he simply shrugged it off as a bluff.
The overseer’s death marked their victory over the warehouse. The Sun family members flooded in and freed the captives. Of the over 10,000 people imprisoned, most were women and children, though there was a smaller number of laborers as well.
Han Wu’s group then returned to the Sun family estate. Not one to stay put for long, Han Wu and the Sun family immediately discussed their strategy to strike the second warehouse.
The next day, the second warehouse was raided, and another 10,000 captives were freed. The Sun family spent the following days resettling over 20,000 people.
The rescue operations sent the Sun family’s reputation soaring across Huai City. People on every street and alley were praising their deeds.
The White Lotus Sect, meanwhile, had its crimes of human trafficking exposed to the public and became hated overnight. However, the sect members showed no remorse, nor did they reflect on the evil they had done. They only felt suspicious that they were being targeted on purpose.
Investigations into the Sun family naturally brought them to Han Wu’s group. The True Martial God King then descended into a senior White Lotus Sect member to brief them on Han Wu and give them the necessary blackmail to subdue him.
That same day, a messenger disguised as a servant delivered a letter to the Sun family estate, insisting that Han Wu’s group personally open the message.
Han Wu opened it. Inside was a letter of challenge. The White Lotus Sect’s leaders wanted a final showdown with Han Wu’s group—only the four of them. Every extra person they brought would result in the death of one of Qin Shuang’s family members.
Although keenly aware that this was a trap, Han Wu had no choice but to accept for the sake of Qin Shuang’s family.
