Chapter 859 - Evilspawn Arrives
“You’re intelligent. Good. That makes things easier,” Han Wu muttered with some relief.
The triangle-head was the strongest mutated soul in the area, but against Han Wu’s group, it could only take a beating.
Jing Jing continued questioning about the triangle-head on Han Wu’s behalf. The group’s strength intimidated the triangle-head, so it didn’t hesitate to share everything it knew.
The triangle-head’s unique mutation allowed it to retain its memories, meaning it was aware that it was trapped in the same day that was looping endlessly. It had tried telling the city’s residents during the day, but no one believed it. They thought it was crazy, so it tried to investigate the cause of the loop, but to no avail.
It had even tried to leave the city, only to discover that escape was impossible. No matter how far it ran during the night, it would simply be reset to its starting location at the dawn of the next day. The triangle-head felt like a prisoner in an invisible cage, one with no walls but no exit either.
The group fell into thought after hearing the triangle-head’s story. As outsiders, the time freeze did not affect them the same way. They would not reset to a starting point each day.
When Han Wu explained this, the triangle-head’s eyes lit up with something resembling hope. It begged Han Wu to investigate the truth, or at the very least, to set it free. It was afraid it would truly go insane if this went on any longer.
Han Wu made no promises. Not only was he not obliged to help, but he also wasn’t certain that he could uncover the truth. The best he could do was try. As the triangle-head had provided useful information, Han Wu was willing to take it along and see if he could bring it out of the city.
The group fought their way out of the monster horde and pushed forward with the triangle-head in tow. Their speed easily carried the triangle-head into territory it had never reached before.
Then, the eerie sound rang out again. The triangle-head’s body dissolved like burning paper, fading rapidly. It was being pulled back to its starting point.
Han Wu acted fast. Swinging Peerless, he killed the triangle-head, and a cone-shaped crystal dropped into his hand.
“I don’t know if I can uncover the truth, but I can try bringing you out of here, even if it’s just a small part of you,” Han Wu said to the crystal.
The crystal didn’t respond. It was just concentrated energy with no consciousness attached.
The group pressed on. The closer they got to the ruin, the stronger the mutated souls became at night. Their progress slowed, but Han Wu wasn’t bothered. If anything, he was thrilled.
Stronger souls left behind larger, purer crystals. The haul alone made the trip worthwhile. Jing Jing could directly absorb the crystals to gain immediate power, allowing her incomplete Soul Jurisdiction to develop rapidly and her soul pressure to grow stronger and more refined.
While Han Wu’s group progressed smoothly, another ship arrived at the edge of the lost continent. It flew a banner bearing the characters: Evilspawn.
As the ship neared the lost continent, Evilspawn spotted Han Wu’s ship parked nearby and detected Han Wu’s aura.
“Bring our ship over!” Evilspawn ordered immediately.
His subordinates all knew Evilspawn’s famously straightforward personality. There were only two reasons he would approach another ship. Either he wanted something they had, or he had a score to settle. They all hoped it was the latter in a friendly sense, because starting trouble at the edge of the Divine Civilization could get messy.
Evilspawn was strong enough to survive, but his subordinates weren’t so confident about their own chances. Aboard Han Wu’s ship, Bow God Bart noticed the approaching vessel during a patrol.
“My Lord, a ship is deliberately closing in,” he reported to Han Wu’s avatar. “Should I shoot it down?”
Han Wu’s avatar, being low on power, could not identify Evilspawn’s aura. Nevertheless, he decided to err on the side of caution. “Warn them first. If they don’t listen, don’t hold back.”
“Yes, sir!” Bart nodded.
The ship sent a warning signal.
“General Evilspawn, the other ship is warning us not to approach!” Evilspawn’s navigator reported.
Evilspawn’s eyes gleamed wildly. “They wouldn’t dare fire on me. Keep going!”
The helmsman dared not defy Evilspawn, and the ship continued its approach.
Noticing the aggressive intent of the approaching vessel, Han Wu’s avatar didn’t hesitate.“Fire!”
Bart opened a tunnel through the void behind him, and the World rank units on the ship channeled their energy into it. In an instant, a massive blast of power detonated across Evilspawn’s ship.
The ship could not withstand the blast and broke apart. Evilspawn himself was only lightly injured, but he and his entire team plummeted onto the lost continent with the ruin of their ship.
Han Wu’s avatar watched the distant explosion from the ship with satisfaction. Some fool had charged straight in despite their clear warning. This was deserved.
Bart soon returned with a report. He had identified the ship’s occupant as Evilspawn.
Han Wu’s avatar was even more pleased. Evilspawn had tried to seize his weapon during the Grand War Games. If not for Zhong Heng’s intervention, Han Wu would’ve beaten Evilspawn black and blue on the spot.
That desire to pummel Evilspawn had now been granted. Still, the avatar knew that Evilspawn’s strength meant this small setback would not kill him. Han Wu might encounter Evilspawn on the lost continent itself.
The avatar relayed this intelligence to the main body through their mental link. Inside the lost continent, Han Wu received the message: Evilspawn had arrived!
Han Wu was actually glad that Evilspawn had followed him here. He had tried to take Han Wu’s things, so it was only fair for Han Wu to return the favor.
