Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Shocking Everyone
Yun Linhai hurried to her side. He kicked the sea wolf into the cabin, then hugged her and started checking her over.
"Are you hurt? You didn’t get bitten, did you?"
His daughter was so delicate. A single bite would be disastrous.
Yun Jiao shook her head. "No, I’m not."
She was still lively as ever.
Seeing that she was truly unharmed, Yun Linhai finally relaxed.
"Our Jiaojiao is so amazing."
Yun Jiao’s eyes sparkled. She lifted her little chin slightly, accepting her daddy’s praise.
"Daddy, let’s fish!"
She wanted to continue.
"Okay, Jiaojiao, you keep going. Daddy will watch you from the side."
Yun Jiao nodded. Full of vigor, she picked up her fishing rod and continued, only to pull up another sea wolf.
The next few fish she caught in a row were all sea wolves. Yun Linhai couldn’t help but lean over and peek into the sea.
"Could a school of sea wolves be passing by?"
He slapped his thigh. "What a shame we don’t have a fishing net on board!"
Without a net, they could only stick to fishing with a rod. But seeing that every sea wolf Yun Jiao pulled up weighed at least five jin, he felt even more regretful.
’What’s the difference between this and having a windfall from the heavens drop right in front of you, only to miss catching it?’
About half an hour later, she finally caught something that wasn’t a sea wolf.
They had also run out of bait. Yun Linhai did a quick calculation. Just counting the sea wolves, they had caught around twenty of them, which he estimated must weigh over a hundred jin.
He couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath.
’Does that mean his daughter just made fifty yuan with that fishing rod alone?’
"Daddy, it’s broken."
Yun Jiao came to Yun Linhai with the broken fishing rod, pouting and looking unhappy.
It suddenly dawned on Yun Linhai. ’His daughter actually managed to catch so many fish with this flimsy little rod before it finally broke!’
He picked up the rod and looked at it. It was actually made of solid bamboo.
And a well-treated piece at that.
No wonder it lasted so long. It even felt a bit heavy in his hand.
’Wait a minute, isn’t my Jiaojiao’s strength a little too much?’
"Daddy will make you a new one another day."
However, solid bamboo wasn’t easy to find, and if not treated properly, it wouldn’t be able to handle such large fish.
With no more bait and a broken rod, they could no longer fish, so they headed home, beaming with joy.
Meanwhile, the rest of the family was waiting anxiously on the dock, staring out at the sea.
"Why aren’t they back yet?"
The more they thought, the more scared they became, their faces turning a little pale.
It didn’t make sense. The sea was calm today. With Yun Linhai’s boating skills, there was no way he couldn’t make it back home.
Mr. Yun was also anxious. "If I’d known, I would have gone with them. Lin Hai has never been this unreliable before."
Just as despair began to set in and they were about to borrow a boat to go search, the silhouette of a small wooden boat appeared in their line of sight.
"Quick, look! Is that them?"
It was still a bit too far to see clearly.
But they were all too familiar with the figures of their family members.
Especially Shen Yunlian. Once the boat drew a little closer, she covered her mouth and began to cry with joy.
The whole family immediately ran over.
On the boat, Yun Linhai and Yun Jiao spotted them too and immediately raised their hands to wave.
"Dad, Mom, Xiao Lian!"
Yun Linhai had a fairly loud voice, and the sea breeze carried his words to the ears of the people on the shore.
"It’s really them! They’re back! They’re finally back!"
The people around them were also happy for the family, having thought something bad might have happened.
"You rotten brat! You go to buy a boat and something happens! And you’re only just now getting back!"
After the initial joy and excitement, Mr. Yun started cursing, wishing he could chase after Lin Hai and beat him like he did when he was a child.
When the small wooden boat docked, Yun Linhai, smiling sheepishly, got off the boat holding Yun Jiao. But instead of a warm welcome from his family, he was met with a beating.
Especially his father, who was still strong for his age and whose blows hurt like hell.
Yun Jiao, on the other hand, was whisked aside into Granny Yun’s arms.
"You rotten brat, you finally decided to come back! We sent you to buy a boat, where on earth did you go? Do you have any idea how long we’ve been waiting for you?!"
Even Shen Yunlian, her eyes red, couldn’t help but smack his arm.
Only then did Yun Linhai realize how long they had been out on the water. He immediately felt guilty, not daring to resist as he squatted down and covered his head to take the beating.
Shen Yunlian’s heart ached for him. "Dad, stop hitting him. He knows he was wrong."
Mr. Yun snorted coldly and slowly put his shoe back on.
"Dad, I was wrong. Jiaojiao and I were fishing and lost track of time."
Held in Granny Yun’s arms, Yun Jiao nodded her head like a chick pecking at rice.
She hugged Granny Yun a little tighter in fear, her small lips pressed together firmly.
’They beat Daddy, so they can’t beat me now, right?’
"Fishing?"
Clearly, no one in the family blamed her. Instead, they comforted her, afraid she had been scared.
"That’s right, Dad! You have no idea how many fish Jiaojiao caught with just one rod."
Yun Linhai led them onto the boat. When he opened the cabin hatch, they all stared, dumbfounded, at the writhing sea wolves inside.
’Wait, didn’t Yun Linhai go to buy a boat? How did he end up catching so many fish?’
"Jiaojiao caught these?"
That sounded so unbelievable.
Sea wolves this big would put up a huge fight in the water. Even a grown man would have to struggle to pull one in.
Uncle Yun said, "Let’s get these fish together and take them over to Ah Wang’s place first."
After all the commotion, the sea wolves were still alive, but they weren’t as lively as before.
Mr. Yun and the others were experienced fish handlers, and they quickly got all the fish out.
"There are some other fish here, too."
Yun Linhai came out carrying a bucket.
Sea wolves are vicious and would bite the other fish if put together, so Yun Linhai had separated the other fish Yun Jiao caught earlier into a bucket.
"Excellent, excellent... This is a great start! A good omen!"
There were other people on the dock. Seeing the Yun family buy a boat was already a rare sight. Lately, with them building a house and now buying a boat, they had become the center of the whole village’s gossip.
No one expected that they would bring back such a huge haul on the very first day with the new boat.
"So many sea wolves! And they’re not small, either. You must have run into a school of them!"
"Lin Hai, did you catch these with a net? You’re so lucky, running into a school of sea wolves right after buying your boat. But that can’t be right... is that all?"
If you hit a school of fish, a single cast of the net should bring up more than just this handful.
Even though these sea wolves are big, there are too few of them.
Yun Linhai chuckled. "Nope, we caught them with a fishing rod."
"A fishing rod?!!!"
Everyone around was instantly stunned.
"You really caught them with a fishing rod? All of them?"
’What kind of fishing rod can catch so many big fish?’
"Yep, really with a rod. We used the squid we caught as bait. Just good luck, good luck..."
"Everyone, make way. We’re taking the fish to sell them."
Ah Wang’s purchasing point wasn’t far, and the fish were still alive when they were brought over.
Ah Wang’s face lit up the moment he saw them.
"Such big sea wolves! Uncle, you guys have some amazing luck."
Old Man Yun was beaming. "Hurry up and weigh them."
Twenty-one sea wolves, one hundred and thirty jin.
