Chapter 87: Chapter 64: Entering the Dream (Part 1)
The moment Kate spoke, Sopea knew he meant trouble.
He wasn’t foolish enough to ask, "Who’s this brother of yours?"
Since Kate and his group knew he was coming today, they must have known why. The "brother" he mentioned could only be Sean.
Sopea sized up the disrespectful man before him.
’A Light Attendant. He’d heard of them.’
Rumor had it he was a domineering CEO type—blunt and difficult for ordinary people to deal with.
But as it happened, so was he.
Even though he was on their turf, Sopea wasn’t the least bit afraid.
He met Kate’s provocative question with an equally blunt retort.
"So what if I’m here to cause trouble for your brother?"
The two men locked eyes, their sharp gazes so intense they seemed to crackle in the air, thick with the smell of gunpowder.
Kate hadn’t expected Sopea to be so brazen. To be this bold even when surrounded, and to admit his intentions so openly. He spoke with deep meaning, "You’ve got guts. Good."
"You’ve successfully captured my attention, old man."
"Is that so?" Sopea forced a smile. "Heh, I’m truly honored then."
"You should feel honored," Kate threatened. "I had to cancel two major deals because of you, costing me hundreds of thousands. I’m in a very bad mood right now. I hope you know what’s good for you."
Sopea: "Oh, so you’re in business."
"No wonder you can’t reach the 3rd Floor of the Holy Hall and still haven’t broken through to Tier Six. It’s understandable."
Kate: "?"
’So what? Is it really that impressive to reach the third floor and break through to Tier Six at his age?’
"Don’t worry about me. I’ve got plenty of time left."
"Unlike some people who already have one foot in the grave. Of course, they’d be in a hurry... By the way, have you decided on your epitaph yet?" Kate asked.
Sopea: "?"
Standing to the side, Elise had to stifle her laughter.
’She’d just realized something: when it came to being passive-aggressive, men were just as good as women.’
Ultimately, it was because everyone felt secure in their own power.
Alola Town was the Dawn Council’s home turf, so naturally, they weren’t afraid.
And as a Tier Six, Sopea had even less reason to back down.
He had just had a Breakthrough and hadn’t yet grown accustomed to the extra Magic Power in his body. He wouldn’t mind testing his newfound strength on Kate.
The Bell Ringer, who had been silent until now, seemed to read his mind. "You’d best think this through, Mr. Sopea," he said in a low voice.
Sopea sneered. "What, planning to gang up on me?"
Kate sneered back. "So what if we are? You got a problem with that?"
"Fine," Sopea declared. "Then all of you can come at me at once."
’Just a few Tier Fours and Tier Fives. Did they really think he’d be scared?’
At that moment, Sopea seemed like a proud War God, filled with an indomitable aura. Nothing could stand in the way of his determination to stand up for his apprentice.
"How arrogant!" Kate couldn’t stand people like that.
’Who the hell does this guy think he is, acting more arrogant than me!’
"Stop, stop, stop!"
"Please, everyone, stop arguing!"
Just as it looked like the two were about to come to blows, Koni arrived in the nick of time.
She had only taken a moment to put on makeup before heading out—a simple courtesy for the meeting—and now she found her Master arguing with the Light Attendant and his companions...
Koni was touched. Her Master had always treated her like a daughter, and she saw him as a father. But she still had to explain, "It’s not what you think."
’Sopea might have wanted to get a little payback for her, but his main goal was to help Sean with Entering the Dream. Her Master didn’t have any ill intentions; he was just a bit cold and unwilling to explain himself to others. Besides, she would be with him when they Entered the Dream to learn. As the one at the center of it all, Koni knew better than anyone that Sean hadn’t bullied her—it was all her own doing. Even if her Master did try to do something to Sean in the dream, she would stop him.’
"Alright, alright, this is all a misunderstanding." Elise seized the chance to play peacemaker. "Everyone knows of Mr. Sopea’s great prestige," she said with a warm smile. "Even I have heard of your esteemed reputation all the way in Siracle State. Why would you bully someone so much your junior?"
Sopea was in his late fifties, while Sean looked to be in his early twenties, so calling him a junior was perfectly fine.
"However, you may have to wait a little while, Mr. Sopea."
Elise smiled. "Sean is currently working part-time as a Priest at the church. He gets off around seven. We could find a place for some afternoon tea first. Let us treat it as a welcome for you, Mr. Sopea. What do you say?"
"Once Sean is finished, we can head to the church. The space has already been prepared."
’Elise’s attitude was incredibly friendly, but Sopea was no fool. He knew these beautiful women were masters of disguise. Just because Elise started by flattering him didn’t mean anything. In fact, Kate and the Bell Ringer were probably here at Elise’s request to back Sean up and intimidate him.’
’She was just playing the good cop now.’
’That’s why Elvire always said Elise was the best people person in the Dawn Council.’
’She always managed to play a role that made it impossible to get angry with her.’
’Even if people saw through her act, it didn’t matter. They were all friends who ran in the same circles; they couldn’t just have a complete falling out.’
It wasn’t a huge deal to begin with, and Elise handled the situation with perfect tact. She was giving Sopea an out, and naturally, he would take it.
"Fine," Sopea said. "But there’s no need to wait until he gets off work."
’Afternoon tea was fine, but waiting until seven was unnecessary.’
"But it’s currently the Day of Abstinence," Elise reminded him. "Mr. Sopea, you should know that the churches are always very busy at this time of year."
"People who come to pray with the Priest and get a late number in the queue often end up staying at the church overnight. Empty rooms with beds aren’t easy to come by."
