Chapter 185: Chapter 108: The Burnt Ancient Castle
If the Consciousness Riverbed is truly a replica of the Real World, then an Alola Town identical to the real one must exist. And since we all know Alola Town and Siracle State so well, working backward from the destination would be far simpler than our current aimless search.
"That’s a great idea." Kate’s eyes lit up slightly. "So, what do you say? We Meditate right here on the spot?"
Sean: "..."
"Didn’t I say we should go back first?"
"Then let’s make it quick." Kate was already impatient.
You could tell he was really frustrated with this outcome.
In truth, Elvire was frustrated too. After all, they had come so far and had even brought Adelf and the Night Watcher, only to come up empty-handed. Anyone would be reluctant to go back just like that.
But they couldn’t really start their Cultivation on the edge of a cliff.
When a Wizard entered a state of Meditation, it was much like being in a deep sleep, with the possibility of "sleepwalking." If someone was a restless sleeper and accidentally rolled off, that would be a real tragedy.
Besides, there was another problem.
"The last time, we logged off in the Florist Family’s territory," Elvire reminded them.
To find Alola Town in the "New World," they first had to get past Robes, which would be extremely difficult.
A Grand Mage wasn’t someone you could "outsmart," especially face-to-face. If Robes was still waiting for them in Florist Castle, going there would be a suicide mission. They would suffer mental trauma just like Sopea and Kate, ending up in a near-vegetative state.
"We have to try," Sean said. "Even if it isn’t to find the Holy Sanctuary, we always need to practice our Cultivation."
Once a Wizard tried duo Meditation for the first time, the "New World" would replace their original Meditation World. To increase their Magic Power from that point on, they had no choice but to go to the New World. It was unavoidable. To use a strange but apt expression, Sean felt like he had trapped himself in a mess of his own making. This *Fallen Nether Technique* was definitely about more than just cultivating Magic Power.
There were only two ways to figure out the true meaning of this Ancient Language Skill.
One was to wait for a Reshaper like Sopea—someone who had been a tutor or librarian in the Holy Sanctuary in a past life—to recover their memories. Someone among them must have been involved in the adaptation of the *Fallen Nether Technique*.
The second was to search for answers in the "New World," just as they were searching for the Holy Temple Ruins.
The "New World" was the Consciousness Riverbed, and in a sense, the Consciousness Riverbed was "omnipotent" and "omniscient." It contained all the information from this world’s long history; the answer to anything could be found within the "New World."
So, in reality, whether they had found Kovri today or not, they had to go to the "New World."
It wasn’t that Elvire was afraid of "dying." On the contrary, she thought that getting to personally experience the power of a Grand Mage at the mere cost of mental trauma was a bargain. She just didn’t want to Meditate on the edge of a cliff.
Besides the danger, it was also awkward.
’Duo Meditation requires physical contact with a certain guy, and with so many people watching... It’s just so weird...’
"Let’s go. We’ll head back first," Sopea said.
He also needed to report back to the Night Watcher.
And so, after one last look around the cliff and taking a few pictures, the group went back down the mountain the way they came and drove back to the city.
By the time they returned to the hotel, it was already evening.
On the way, Elise apologized to Adelf, "I’m sorry, Mr. Adelf, for making you come all this way for nothing."
Adelf chuckled. "Don’t worry about it. These old bones of mine have been sitting around town for so long they were starting to rust. It was about time I got out for a walk."
Adelf was very easygoing. Aside from being rather serious during meetings, he was like a kind, old grandfather the rest of the time.
The Night Watcher, however, was the complete opposite.
When Sopea went to see the Night Watcher, Sean went with him.
After all, it was his idea; if anyone had to answer for it, it should be him.
And though the Night Watcher’s eyes were still closed, one could still see the suppressed fury on his face.
"Do you think this matter can be brushed aside with a simple apology?"
"Do you have any idea how many people we brought with us this time?"
"Do you have any idea what a huge risk it was for the Union headquarters to deploy all these people?"
Suppose those Witch Hunter Families discovered our large-scale deployment and attacked the Long Night Union or Alola Town? What would the consequences have been? If you had found the Holy Temple Ruins and successfully struck a blow against the Florist Family, that could at least be called a ’base trade.’ But you found neither the Holy Sanctuary nor Florist Castle, which means this was just a total loss.
"In times of war, behavior like this is called filing a false military report! You would be sent before the Judicial Court!" the Night Watcher said coldly.
Sean: "..."
Sopea: "..."
He cleared his throat and tried to placate him, "It’s not that dramatic, Chairman."
The Night Watcher cut him off. "Dramatic?"
"Heh."
"I see you have absolutely no grasp of this situation’s severity!"
This time you came to World’s End and came up empty. The next time, maybe you’ll go to the Far North Region and find nothing. After a few more of these, the strongholds of our Long Night Union and the Dawn Council will sooner or later be wiped out by the Witch Hunters.
Sopea, in fact, understood all of this.
This wasn’t merely a matter of wasted time and energy; it was about "trust" and "survival." But what could he do? Sean was Lord Blake. Could he really pin all the blame on Lord Blake? Or side with the Night Watcher and lecture Sean?
He would have to be ready to quit to do something like that.
Looked at from another angle, Sopea was also helping the Night Watcher.
Even though he had promised Sean he wouldn’t reveal his identity, everyone was bound to find out sooner or later. The more harshly the Night Watcher berated Sean tonight, the more difficult his own future would become. Sopea could already picture the rigid expression on the Night Watcher’s face when he finally learned that Sean was Lord Blake.
