Chapter 164: Chapter 98: Olivia Elderidge
"A Grand Mage??"
Sean, Kate, and Elvire were horrified.
’The Clan Leader of the Florist Family... that old bastard who was just bowing and scraping before us, his face plastered with a fawning smile, is actually a Grand Mage?!’
’I thought this world’s resources were supposed to be scarce! That Tier Six was the limit and no one could break through to Tier Seven!’
Sopea was the one who said that.
And now, Sopea had paid for that claim with his "life."
A Tier Five Mage could exchange a few blows and cast a few spells against a Tier Six. But a Tier Six versus a Tier Seven... Sopea, the strongest of their group, hadn’t stood a chance against Robes. He was turned to dust by a single finger before he could even retaliate.
The gap in Magic Power between Low-tier Wizards isn’t large, so it’s possible to defeat enemies of a higher tier. But the higher the tier, the smaller this possibility becomes. Starting from Tier Six, the difference in Magic Power between each tier and the next is over 1,500 Lak—a gap that not even Forbidden Meditation can bridge.
Sean acted at once, grabbing Elvire’s hand. "Let’s go!"
"You two go first. I’ll take him on," Kate said, his voice cold.
Despite his shock, a rare battle lust ignited in Kate’s eyes.
’This is the Meditation World, anyway. No need to fear death.’
’Today, I’ll see for myself just how strong a so-called Grand Mage really is.’
’Or rather, I’ll see if this damn old geezer really is a Tier Seven Grand Mage.’
"You’ll get hurt!" Sean warned him.
Kate retorted, "I have potions!"
Sean...
’Fine.’
’See you on the train, then.’
’He had no desire to stick around for a one-sided beating.’
’And he certainly didn’t want his sister-in-law getting hurt.’
In truth, Elvire also wanted to stay behind with Kate and face Robes.
This was the first time in this lifetime they had seen a Grand Mage with their own eyes, and it was a perfect opportunity to gauge their enemy’s true strength. Elvire had never been one to back down. Although she always grew anxious and angry at Sean’s recklessness, if she were in his place, she would most likely have made the same choice.
’But alas, the warmth of Sean’s hand was too comforting, too reassuring. He always thought of her first when danger appeared, and for a moment, she was reluctant to pull away...’
’No, that wasn’t it.’
’He was just holding on too tightly, with too much force. She couldn’t break free.’
And so, she had no choice but to let Sean pull her along.
As it turned out, Sean’s choice was the right one.
Seeing them try to escape, Robes began to chant a magic spell without hesitation.
"Ousenonpaire, Kreit!"
Heaven and Earth Net!
In that instant, strands of crystal-clear thread appeared above Sean and Elvire’s heads.
Sean recognized them.
These were the Puppet Strings that Quill had used before to control his puppets.
Robes’s technique, however, was far more advanced than Quill’s, who had used the threads as blades to slice his enemies. Thousands of Puppet Strings now wove together above Sean and Elvire, forming a massive net that sealed off all routes of escape.
Robes had no intention of letting them escape.
’Might as well be hanged for a sheep as a lamb. Since he had made his move, he had to eradicate the problem completely. He couldn’t let a single one of them leave, or the consequences would be dire!’
Kate tried to block the attack for them.
Facing an opponent of the Great Mage Level, Kate showed not a hint of complacency.
It was now evening; the sun had already set.
But that didn’t matter—
’If there is no light, then I will become the light.’
Kate immediately went all out, using his Magic Power to forcibly condense a miniature "sun" that flooded the entire room with Sunshine.
Within the light, he was invincible.
He’d once thrashed Zajik, another Tier Five, so badly that Zajik couldn’t even tell where he was.
But Robes was no Zajik.
"Courting death."
The old man narrowed his eyes and unleashed a punch.
He chanted no Magic Spell, which meant this was an ordinary punch, imbued only with the purest, most unrefined Magic Power.
Yet that one, ordinary punch shattered all the light in the room.
The "sun" was extinguished.
Kate’s figure was torn from the light, his body bent backward like a bow, as if struck by a sledgehammer. He flew through the air, vomiting blood, and crashed violently into the wall, which spiderwebbed with cracks from the impact.
Robes had killed Sopea with a single finger.
Then sent Kate flying with a single punch.
Both of them were top-tier combatants from the Wizard settlement, yet neither could withstand a single blow from Robes. They were effortlessly, instantly killed.
It was a terrifying testament to the Clan Leader’s power.
Klintor, alone, was not surprised.
The only reason this generation of the Florist Family had managed to retain its title of Viscount was entirely thanks to their Clan Leader, Robes.
To be granted the honor of Viscount by the Church Court, the minimum requirement was Tier Seven.
And for a Tier Seven Mage to fight those of Tier Six or below was what could only be described as an attack from a higher dimension.
’The Clan Leader has been a Grand Mage for many years. Dealing with a few Holy Temple Remnants is naturally child’s play for him.’
What surprised Klintor was Robes’s sudden "change of face."
One moment, he had been deferential to Sean’s group, even offering to host a banquet for them. The next, he struck with lightning speed, instantly killing two of them. It made Klintor wonder if he had misunderstood the Clan Leader all along. ’Had the Clan Leader never intended to let these Holy Temple Remnants go from the very beginning? Was it all just an act to lure them into a trap, leaving them with no escape?’
But in truth, he hadn’t misunderstood.
Had Sean not pressed him about the Witch Hunt Operation, Robes would never have made a move.
He genuinely had no desire to offend Carl Black.
But Sean had taken that choice away from him.
So, he did as Sean demanded: he chose a side and was now committed to it.
When the maid told him that Klintor had brought the intruders back, Robes had already anticipated this outcome. It was obvious they hadn’t come in peace, and he knew they wouldn’t let him easily brush aside questions about the Church Court and Zajik.
