Chapter 162: Chapter 97: Robes Florist

But the problem was, was Klintor Carl Black?

No.

He wasn’t, and he never could be.

’So if that was the case, why hadn’t he been more careful about his words and actions?’

Robes had sent Klintor to the restricted area to sand down the young man’s rough edges and let him mature. The hope was that Klintor could one day represent the family in dealings with the High Nobles, using his outstanding Talent and a pleasant demeanor to help the Florist Family advance.

Lesser nobles below the rank of Count didn’t possess hereditary titles. Therefore, every generation had to struggle for it, or at the very least, find a way to hold on to their existing rank.

That was why Robes actually had high hopes for Klintor.

But who could have known that Carl Black wasn’t actually dead.

Not only was he not dead, but Klintor had actually gone and captured people connected to him...

’Did he even use his brain? The fact that the other party could use the Truth Technique said it all. The Pope was plenty powerful, right? Yet even when he personally intervened, he couldn’t completely wipe out the Hall of Truth. Was that something a tiny Viscount Family like theirs could possibly deal with?’

Robes didn’t know what Carl Black looked like, nor did he know if Carl Black was among these people. But one thing was certain: they were definitely connected to Carl Black.

Klintor had caused a huge disaster this time!

All Robes could do was try to salvage the situation.

Among the four, he saw that only Sean’s gender and appearance matched the description in the history books: "Carl Black possessed a beauty so handsome it was suffocating. Later research suggests he likely cultivated some form of Charm Spell, which he used to capture young maidens and bewitch his followers."

’If Carl Black was among these four, it had to be this man.’

So, he walked over to Sean, bowed his head, and personally began to untie him. With an apologetic smile, he said, "Klintor is still young and doesn’t know any better. This is all just a big misunderstanding—a classic case of our own people fighting each other. It’s all a misunderstanding, ha-ha-ha."

Sean: "..."

’Was it really a misunderstanding?’

He eyed the old man before him with a peculiar expression.

Meanwhile, Klintor, who stood to the side, felt nothing but humiliation.

’His own Clan Leader, a man he had always respected, an elder past eighty, was now bowing his noble head to one of the Holy Sanctuary Remnants. He could guess why the Clan Leader was doing it, but they were nobles of the Empire! Knights trusted by the Church Court! To do this... where did that leave the Florist Family’s allegiances? Where did that leave the Florist Family’s faith?!’

’How was such a betrayal any different from what those Heretics from the Holy Sanctuary would do?’

Klintor’s face flushed red with indignation, and he turned to leave.

Out of his long-held respect for the Clan Leader, he didn’t confront Robes. Storming off was the most ’ill-mannered’ thing he could bring himself to do, and he hoped it would show the Clan Leader how he felt.

But Robes wouldn’t let him leave.

"Stay where you are."

He was not to leave, nor was he to speak.

Robes wanted Klintor to stand aside quietly.

’Watch and learn.’

Robes instructed a Maid, "Go and fetch the wine gifted to us by the Church Court." He added, "And have the kitchen prepare their finest dishes. I am entertaining honored guests tonight."

"Yes, sir." The Maid gave a small curtsy and went on her way.

Once he finished untying Sean’s ropes, Robes’s smile returned. "Come, let’s talk inside."

Sean and his group exchanged a look.

"Alright."

’They wanted to see just what this old Clan Leader was up to.’

Klintor clenched his fists.

’The Church Court sent small "gifts" to the noble families every year, and this wine was one of them. The family had always treated these items as treasures. Even he wasn’t worthy of tasting it, yet now the Clan Leader was using it to entertain Holy Sanctuary Remnants. He really wanted to flip the table.’

’But his reason told him not to.’

’Otherwise, Sean and the others wouldn’t even have to lift a finger. The Clan Leader himself would slap him to the ground so hard he wouldn’t be able to get back up.’

Despite the thousand protests and the searing indignation in his heart, Klintor could only meekly follow the group into the drawing-room.

A Maid brought the wine.

The wine ewer was luxurious, seemingly crafted from platinum and inlaid with numerous gemstones.

The cups were made of jade as well.

Like the design of the car, they were quite retro, styled after ancient ritual wine vessels.

Robes personally poured the wine for everyone. "This is something money can’t buy," he said with a smile. "I usually can’t even bear to drink it myself. Thanks to you all, I finally have an excuse to taste it."

It was a very tactful thing to say.

Sean, however, didn’t move.

It wasn’t that he was afraid the wine was poisoned.

’Never mind that his body had been certified by a Witch of authority as being immune to all poisons. The simple fact that this was the Meditation World was enough to put him at ease. Even if he were poisoned to death, he could just log back in and be perfectly fine.’

’He just personally preferred to talk business first.’

Kate, on the other hand, didn’t overthink it. He was a wine lover, and it would be a waste not to drink.

He raised his cup, took a small sip, and savored it. Then he looked at Robes, quite surprised.

’Have to admit, it’s actually pretty good.’

Elvire rolled her eyes. ’No wonder this guy gets along so well with Sean,’ she thought. ’They’re both reckless fools, drinking the enemy’s wine without a second thought. Aren’t they afraid it’s a trap?’

’Dying in the Meditation World wasn’t true death, but one’s spirit would still be injured to some extent. It was like being repelled by Blake’s statue in the Void Technique Space. A typical Wizard hit by that a couple of times wouldn’t recover for at least ten days to half a month.’

Besides, before they had even entered the drawing-room, Sopea had quietly warned them that the old man was very powerful.

Sopea couldn’t discern the old Clan Leader’s Tier. The Magic Power fluctuations emanating from Robes were extremely faint. Recalling that the Florist Family controlled the Puppet Path, it was possible the old man before them was a fake—a Puppet.
