Chapter 235: Chapter 235: Real-Time Carnage
"Well, if that’s how it is, then to hell with it," muttered Alexander, his eyes turning cold as a dark smirk played on his lips.
Instead of trying to outrun the chase on the open avenue, he yanked the steering wheel hard to the right. The silver Tahoe roared, mounting the sidewalk and crashing straight through the massive glass facade of a commercial building. Shards of structural glass rained down like a crystal storm as the heavy truck plowed through the lobby, tearing down concrete pillars before Alexander pulled the handbrake, sending the vehicle into a violent drift that brought it to a grinding halt behind a thick load-bearing wall.
He killed the headlights, unbuckled in a flash, and kicked his door open.
"Let’s see if you bastards can simulate this," whispered Alexander, stepping out into the shattered lobby with his assault rifle tightly gripped in his hands.
The four black SUVs tore through the ruined entrance one after the other, their tires screeching over the gravel and broken glass. They weren’t fully armored like his Tahoe, and that was their fatal mistake.
Alexander didn’t waste a moment. He popped out from behind his cover and squeezed the trigger, letting out a heavy burst. Three rounds punched into the front tire of the lead SUV. The tire blew apart causing the heavy vehicle to lose all traction at eighty miles per hour. It violently veered to the side, flipping over its own hood and launching into the air before crashing upside down into a concrete pillar with a deafening crunch.
Before the second truck could even react, Alexander shifted his aim, targeting the windshield. The standard glass offered zero resistance. The copper-jacketed bullets tore through the glass and punctured the driver’s chest and throat, spraying crimson across the dashboard. The dead driver’s foot locked flat on the accelerator, causing the SUV to plow into the wreckage of the first one, triggering a massive explosion that illuminated the dark lobby.
"Two left," said Alexander, his voice calm amidst the roaring flames.
He broke into a sprint, flanking the remaining two vehicles as the passengers began desperately opening their doors to fire back. Alexander dropped to one knee, lowering his profile as he unleashed a relentless barrage. He caught the first two men stepping out of the third SUV, the rounds ripping through their chests and dropping them into the glass-covered floor. He didn’t stop moving; he lunged forward, thrusting the barrel of his rifle through the shattered side window of the same truck and clearing out the remaining two occupants with short, lethal bursts to the head.
The final SUV attempted to reverse out of the kill zone, its tires spinning madly on the slick marble.
Alexander dropped his empty magazine, slapped a fresh one into the magwell, and racked the bolt in a fluid motion. He sprinted toward the retreating vehicle, firing through the side doors. The heavy rounds tore through the thin sheet metal, shredding the flesh of the four men trapped inside.
The engine finally sputtered and died, the last SUV coming to a halt as thick smoke poured from the radiator. Alexander walked up to the side window, his rifle raised, and scanned the interior. All four men lay slumped over each other, riddled with bullets.
"Sixteen down," whispered Alexander, checking his surroundings as the heavy silence of the ghost city settled back into the ruined building.

"Wow, looks like this is about to get even better," said Alexander, a cold, hungry grin spreading across his face as he lowered his rifle.
Before the words could fully leave his mouth, the entire environment shattered like broken glass. The burning lobby and the corpses of the dead men dissolved into digital pixels, and the gravity beneath his feet shifted violently.
The system was transitioning to the next phase, and it didn’t give him a second to breathe.
Suddenly, Alexander was standing on the narrow rooftop of a skyscraper in the middle of a torrential downpour. Lightning flashed, illuminating the figures of six heavily armed mercenaries wearing night-vision goggles, already rushing toward him with tactical knives and suppressed submachine guns. Alexander lunged forward, ducking under the first blade, snapping the man’s wrist, and stealing his weapon to spray down the rest before the blood could even mix with the rain.
[Stage 02 Completed: Close Quarters Combat]
The rain vanished. The concrete beneath him turned into hot, blinding desert sand. Alexander blinked finding himself pinned behind a ruined stone wall while sniper fire chipped away at his cover, sending razor-sharp rock fragments slicing into his cheeks. He had to count the seconds between the heavy discharges, calculating the distance and wind speed in his head before popping out for a fraction of a second to deliver a headshot across the valley.
[Stage 03 Completed: Long Range Engagement]
Scenario after scenario, the capsule pushed his mind and tactical reflexes to the breaking point. He was thrown into a claustrophobic, flooded underground sewer fighting off waves of faceless attackers in pitch blackness, then dragged into a high-speed highway chase where he had to hang out of a shattered window to reload his rifle under a hail of lead.
By the time the final notification flashed across his vision, Alexander was breathing heavily, his hands trembling slightly from the sheer psychological strain of killing over a hundred simulated enemies across a dozen different terrains.
[Simulation Terminated. Evaluation Complete.]
The digital world collapsed, dissolving into a deep, endless black before his eyes snapped open inside the physical capsule. The thousands of tiny needles retracted from his flesh with a faint hiss, and the heavy glass lid slid upward, letting the cool, real-world air hit his sweat-drenched face.
Alexander sat up slowly, rubbing his temples as a massive headache throbbed behind his eyes. He climbed out of the machine, his boots hitting the solid floor of the gym lobby.
Stephen was still sitting behind the desk, looking up from his paperwork with a low, impressed whistle.
"Well, look at you, kid," said Stephen, a smirk playing on his lips as he checked the data on his main monitor. "You actually smashed through the entire tactical gauntlet on your first try. Most veterans throw up or pass out by stage four."
"Next time, calibrate the damn difficulty higher," said Alexander, wiping the sweat from his forehead with the back of his hand as he walked toward the exit. "It was getting boring."
"Keep talking tough, brat," laughed Stephen, his booming voice following Alexander out the door. "Just remember what I told you about keeping your head down out there."
