As Jason stared at this mission and remembered that moment the Goons acted against him, he sighed. He couldn’t just destroy them. Not yet. He needed to know if they could be saved. Why did he not just do it? Well, this was because of something his mother said to him once.
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice, fuck you!!
Jason’s pulse quickened as he walked through the bustling mall, the weight of his mission pressing on his chest. There was a faint hum of chatter that surrounded him, but his focus was razor-sharp, locked on the three figures lounging near the food court.
These were the same goons who had tormented him before, the ones who stole, mocked, and took pleasure in making his life miserable on the orders of that scumbag Mr Gray— Ehem. He did not deserve the respect. That old bastard Thomas.
Yet today, he wasn’t approaching them with vengeance etched on his face. Instead, a smirk tugged at his lips.
"Hey, guys," Jason called out, striding toward them. "Mind if I join you? I think we need to talk. After all, there is a lot that happened last time. You know... a ton of stuff that happened and we need to work through it."
The tallest of the group, the self-proclaimed leader with a perpetual sneer, turned to him with a look of incredulity. And then when he noticed who it was, he looked at Jason with a smirk that was probably the most disgusting thing Jason had ever seen before in his entire life.
Turning to his boys, he grunted and gestured to his boys. The other two exchanged glances before bursting into laughter. What was this idiot doing here? Couldn’t he see that they were still enjoying his money?
"You? Join us?" The leader, Marcus, said, his voice dripping with mockery. "What’s next, you gonna ask us to be best friends?"
"He’s gonna ask us to kiss and make-up, this faggot!"
"Eww! Disgusting freak! Pfft Hahaha!!"
Jason didn’t flinch. He chuckled, a sound both lighthearted and unsettling. He approached them even more standing right next to them as he got down to their level, so as not to seem too threatening. "Why not? I mean, we’ve got history, don’t we? We used to live in the same place."
"History?" one of the others scoffed. "The only history we’ve got is us making you look like a fool."
Jason blinked a few times. Did that guy just say that? Even worse, he had just spat something out while he spoke, didn’t he? And it had landed on his feet too. The bastard deserved to die.
Their laughter echoed, drawing a few curious stares from nearby shoppers. Jason, unfazed, pulled out a chair and sat down uninvited. Guess standing was not doing it. Maybe sitting down beside them to build rapport would do the trick.
Marcus leaned forward, his grin fading as he looked Jason up and down, seeing the cheat suit on him. "Heh~~ Looks like someone’s doing well for himself. That sugar mommy bitch taking care of you? You know... You should introduce me. I’m sure I can take care of her better than you ever did."
"Pfft Hahaha!!"
"Kekeke!"
Jason merely stared at Marcus, saying nothing back to him, and it seemed Marcus was smart enough to realise that Jason was not here for games. Wiping his face slowly, he leaned back. "What do you want, Jason?"
Jason met his gaze, calm but with a glint of something dangerous. "Just a chat. But first, let’s clear something up. Tell me Marcus, Why do you hate me so much?"
The question hung in the air, cutting through the tension. For a moment, Marcus seemed caught off guard. Then his sneer returned, sharper this time. What the fuck was this idiot even talking about?!
"Hate you?" Marcus chuckled, crossing his arms. "We don’t hate you. You’re just… entertainment. Don’t you realise it? You’re nothing to us. We just like the fact that you’re there for us. When we’re a bit bored, you give us everything we need."
"Thank you so much, rich boy!"
"Isn’t it a Former rich boy?! Keke!"
"You’re right, it’s piss-poor bitch boy sex dungeon slave now!"
"Pfft Hahaha!! I can imagine this pretty boy getting pegged."
"Imagine?! Brother, Ugghh~~"
"Pause, pause!!"
"Hahahah!!"
Jason tilted his head, not even paying attention to those two buzzing flies that were trying to get his attention. To him, it made total sense for him to be entertaining for them. He expected it. He just did not expect Marcus to admit it. "Entertainment? That’s a funny way to describe theft and humiliation."
The second goon, a wiry guy with a permanent smirk, leaned forward. "Oh, come on, Jason. Don’t act like you didn’t deserve it. You’ve always been a little… off."
Jason’s smirk widened as he turned to this guy, realising that he had not denied the theft. That was a good thing for his intentions. "Off? That’s an interesting choice of words. Tell me, does it make you feel powerful? Kicking someone who’s ’off’?"
The goons fell silent, their bravado faltering for a split second. Jason seized the moment.
"Because from where I’m sitting, it looks like you’re the ones who are afraid. Afraid of anyone who doesn’t fit into your little box. You don’t like the fact that I’m different. That I am attempting to build a life. You hate that. And seeing me fight for a better life, you try to stop me by crushing my spirit, trying to get me homeless."
Marcus slammed a hand on the table, drawing more attention from everyone in the surroundings. "Watch it, Jason. You sat at our table uninvited. I thought you were going to take care of us now that you are getting taken care of. But can you imagine my disappointment when I see that you are so stingy even while getting taken care of by a rich older woman?"
"Watch it? Or what?" Jason’s voice dropped, low and cold. "You’ll beat me up? Again?" Jason said this and looked at Marcus, straight in his eyes, not even looking away in any way shape or form. And being looked at like that, Marcus’ nostrils flared as he gripped his fists.

Marcus stood, his towering frame casting a shadow over Jason. But Jason didn’t move. His calm, almost amused expression only seemed to agitate the leader further.
"You’ve got some nerve, showing up here and acting like this," Marcus growled. "You better fuck off now before we make you fuck off."
"And you’ve got some skeletons in your closet," Jason replied smoothly. "But hey, we’re all friends here, right? After all, I have already paid for this meal. I have already paid for everything on this table. It’s on me. We’re friends."
"Friends?! Fuck off, Jason!"
"Yeah, piss off!"
Just as the two other Goons were about to fight, Marcus raised his hand, watching Jason’s calm demeanour and then looking around, he turned back to Jason, giving him a chilling smile. "You say we’re friends. I understand that. Why don’t we go outside and chat? As friends?"
Jason’s patience was already wearing thin by now, so hearing these words, he also stood up with a smile on his face. It was clear the goons weren’t going to listen, not willingly. That was fine. He had other methods.
When the group finally dispersed, Jason followed them, keeping a safe distance. They wandered into an empty corridor, joking and shoving each other as if the earlier tension had never happened. They even made jokes about putting Jason through loops of fear and death over time, but Jason did not care. He just followed them, saying nothing as he did.
They were "ignoring" him for a reason. If they were truly not paying attention to him, then they would have been talking about other things, but there they were talking about him, and inflicting pain on him. They wanted to see him run away.
It wasn’t until they entered the restroom at the end of the hall and Jason entered after them that he finally saw Marcus staring at him with a smirk that had a twitch in it due to the anger and frustration.
The door creaked shut behind Jason, and the air seemed to thicken. The Goons’ laughter had already died down by now and when they saw Jason standing there, his hands in his pockets with a cool calm collected demeanour, his expression unreadable, they did not like it at all.
Wasn’t he supposed to be pissing his pants right now? Why was he still fine?
"So are you going to beat me up and make me eat shit now, or later? Because I am thoroughly confused about this all. I’ve never been in this situation before after all."
After hearing those words, the Goons looked at each other and then they erupted in anger. There was no stopping it now. They had given him time to think about it, to turn back, to leave, but he had not left, and that was something annoying fo them. Now there he stood, saying all this bullshit.
It was certain. He was acting tough, but he wanted to die.
