Chapter 331: Chapter 331: Epilogue

Eleanor chose that moment to fall backward onto her bottom. Looked surprised. Then laughed.

Richard chuckled. Actually chuckled.

Aria stared at him.

"What?" he asked.

"You laughed. At a baby falling down."

"She’s fine. Resilient. Like her mother."

Something warm bloomed in Aria’s chest. Richard didn’t give compliments lightly.

"Thank you," she said quietly.

He nodded. Rose carefully from the chair. "I should let you get ready for your meetings. But Aria..."

"Yes?"

"You’ve done well. Better than I could have hoped when you first arrived here." His eyes held hers. "I’m proud of you. Both of you."

He left before she could respond.

Aria sat on the floor with Eleanor, blinking back unexpected tears.

A year and a half ago, Richard Blackwood had been a name in a file. A target in her plan.

Now he was her daughter’s great-grandfather. Her mentor. Her family.

Everything had changed.

Everything.

The Foundation board meeting ran long.

Aria sat at the head of the conference table....her seat, earned through a year of relentless work.....and listened to Julian present the European expansion plan.

Five new clinics across three countries. Partnerships with local hospitals. Mental health programs tailored to each region.

The board members asked questions. Julian answered each one with the detailed research they’d compiled over months. The numbers were solid. The partnerships secure. The vision clear.

The board approved it unanimously.

Lucy presented the volunteer program expansion. Smiled through the whole thing, confidence growing with each slide. The board approved that too.

By the time the meeting ended, it was nearly five PM.

Aria gathered her notes. Lucy bounced over.

"That went so well!"

"It did. Your presentation was perfect."

"I was so nervous...."

"You didn’t look nervous."

"I was screaming internally the whole time." Lucy grinned. "But we got it approved! Three more volunteer coordinators!"

"You deserve it. The program has grown so much." 𝗳𝚛𝗲𝕖𝚠𝚎𝚋𝗻𝗼𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝚘𝐦

"Because you gave me the chance." Lucy’s expression softened. "A year ago, I was just a maid. Now I’m....."

"Running the volunteer operations for an international foundation. You did that yourself."

Lucy hugged her. Quick and warm. "Thank you for believing in me."

"Always."

They walked out together. Lucy headed toward the parking garage. Aria toward the executive elevator.

Damien’s office was on the top floor. She knocked once, pushed the door open.

He was at his desk, phone to his ear, looking at something on his computer. Held up one finger.

Aria sat in the chair across from him and waited.

"....yes, finalize the contract. Send it to Marcus for review." Pause. "No, I want it done before the Singapore team wakes up." Another pause. "Good. Thank you."

He hung up. Looked at her. Smiled that private smile he saved just for her. "How was the board meeting?"

"Good. Everything was approved."

"I saw the minutes. The European expansion is ambitious."

"We can handle it."

"I know you can." He stood. Came around the desk. Leaned against it in front of her. "Julian looked confident in the projections."

"He’s learned a lot this year. Grown into the role."

"You have that effect on people." He reached for her hand. "Are you ready to go home?"

"Yes. Where’s Eleanor?"

"With your mother and Alexander. They took her to the gardens."

"She loves the gardens."

"She loves anything with flowers she can grab."

Aria smiled. "She gets that from you."

"I don’t grab flowers."

"You grabbed that orchid from the greenhouse last week."

"I was examining it."

"You were showing it to Eleanor and she ate a petal."

"She’s very curious."

"She’s very much your daughter."

Damien pulled Aria to her feet. Kissed her. "And yours."

"Yours more."

"We’re not debating this again."

"You started it."

He smiled against her mouth. "Come on. Let’s go home."

They found Eleanor in the east gardens with Mei and Alexander.

The baby was on a blanket, surrounded by toys, completely ignoring all of them in favor of grabbing at grass.

Mei sat beside her, watchful. Alexander stood nearby with his camera, taking photos.

"She’s been trying to eat everything," Mei said as they approached.

"Standard behavior," Aria said, sitting down on the blanket. Eleanor crawled immediately into her lap.

Damien sat beside them. Eleanor lunged for him. He caught her easily.

"Fickle," Aria said.

"She knows who gives her extra playtime before bed."

"Damien...."

"I’m bonding with my daughter."

"You’re spoiling her."

"Same thing."

Mei and Alexander exchanged a look. Said nothing.

Alexander showed them his camera screen. "Got some beautiful shots of her with the roses. She kept trying to smell them."

"Just like Aria did at that age," Mei said softly. "Always curious about everything growing."

Aria’s chest tightened. These moments....her parents here, her daughter growing, her husband beside her.....felt almost too perfect to be real.

The sun was starting to set. Golden light across the gardens. The same gardens Aria had walked through a year and a half ago in a maid’s uniform.

Alexander checked his watch. "We should head back. Give you three some time."

Mei stood. Kissed Eleanor’s head. Then Aria’s. "Dinner is in the fridge. Just heat it up."

"Mom, you don’t have to..."

"I’m your mother. I’m allowed to make you dinner." Mei’s eyes were soft. "See you tomorrow, baby."

They left. Aria, Damien, and Eleanor alone in the gardens.

Eleanor babbled at the flowers. Damien held her securely, watching her with an expression that still broke Aria’s heart every time she saw it.

Complete adoration. Unguarded and absolute.

"You want to walk?" he asked.

"Where?"

"You know where."

He stood. Offered his hand. Aria took it.

They walked through the gardens....Damien carrying Eleanor Aria beside him.....toward the east side.

The bench was still there. Exactly where it had always been.

They sat. Eleanor on Damien’s lap. Aria tucked against his side.

"You know," Aria said quietly, "I stood right here the first night I arrived."

"I know."

"You were in your study. Lights on. I watched you and thought you looked exactly like the file described. Cold. Untouchable. Dangerous."

"Accurate assessment."

"I was terrified."

"You didn’t look terrified."

"I was good at hiding it."

Damien shifted Eleanor to one arm. Put the other around Aria. "What else did you think that night?"

"That I was going to get caught. That this plan was insane. That I had no idea what I was doing."

"Also accurate."

She elbowed him lightly. "I thought I’d be in and out in three months. Steal the plant. Get my mother’s medicine. Disappear."

"What happened to that plan?"

"You happened." She looked up at him. "You and your stupid perfect face and your terrible habit of noticing everything and your complete inability to just let me do my job."

"I noticed you because you were terrible at being a maid."

"I was great at being a maid."

"You argued with me constantly."

"Because you were insufferable."

"Still am."

"I know."

Eleanor made a sound of protest. They both looked at her.

"She’s mad we’re not paying attention to her," Damien said.

"She’s your daughter."

"Definitely."

Aria took Eleanor. Settled her in her lap. The baby immediately grabbed at her necklace...the same one Damien had given her for Christmas. It looked simple and elegant.

"A year and a half," she said softly. "Since I walked into this estate with a fake name and a desperate plan."

"Best infiltration I’ve ever experienced."

"You’ve experienced a lot of infiltrations?"

"A few. Yours was definitely the best."

"Because I succeeded?"

"Because you stayed."

Aria’s throat tightened. "I stayed because you made me want to."

"Good." He kissed her temple. "Because I’m not letting you leave."

"Possessive."

"Always."

They sat on the bench as the sun set. Eleanor playing with Aria’s necklace. Damien’s arm around them both.

Everything that had started here....the lies, the fear, the desperate gamble....had become this.

Real. Solid. Home.

"Damien?" Aria said.

"Mm?"

"Thank you."

"For what?"

"For seeing me. When I didn’t want to be seen. For keeping me. When I tried to run. For loving me. When I didn’t think I deserved it."

His arm tightened around her. "Aria Chen Blackwood. You deserved all of it. Every single piece."

"I know that now."

"Good."

Eleanor yawned. Rubbed her eyes with tiny fists.

"Someone’s tired," Aria said.

"Bedtime?"

"Bedtime."

They stood. Walked back through the gardens toward the estate.

The lights were on inside. Warm and welcoming.

Aria looked at the building that had once been her target. Her mission. Her impossible gamble.

Now it was just home.

"You know," Damien said as they reached the entrance, "I never thanked you."

"For what?"

"For breaking into my estate. Lying to me. Stealing my plant. Turning my entire life upside down."

Aria laughed. "You’re welcome."

"Best thing that ever happened to me."

"Me too."

They went inside together. The three of them.

A family built from lies that became truth. From desperation that became love. From a maid and a billionaire who became everything to each other.

The Maid’s Deception had ended.

The Blackwood legacy had just begun.
