Chapter 186: [Boss Fight] Steam Rain (4)
Tic, tic, tic.
Her mind flickered like a malfunctioning light.
- We don’t know where she went!
Rosemary crawled with blood in her mouth. With her leg shot through, she couldn’t walk.
“Guuu....”
She desperately stifled a moan; if she made a noise, she would get caught.
Jumping from the spire was the right decision.
A moment ago, she left the Emperor behind and threw herself out the window. As one in charge of the guerrilla unit, she had some flight function. She was able to come back to her room using all the fuel in the jet engine attached to her back.
She’d taken so many hits that her limbs were tattered, and her organs weren’t intact either.
“Aughh....”
It was so painful that she wanted to be put down.
Rosemary clenched her teeth. Dark red blood spilled from her throat.
A few more hits in this state and I’m done for.
She knew own state the best. As much as she didn’t want to admit it, she’d lose iIf she fought at this point.
To think that this body would lose against humans....
It was all because of the weapon that sis had made.
If it hadn’t been for that weapon that was more powerful than Flare, this issue wouldn’t have happened. Everything would’ve gone as planned, putting them one step closer to the resurrection of the Demon King.
The plan was falling apart, but Rosemary wasn’t one to crumble from this.
Thunk.
Rosemary dragged her bloodied body into some room.
It was a small room that was about 7 m2. In the center of it was a giant construction circle.
Coordinate warp circle....
Rosemary’s greatest work that had been made by embedding a icosahedron-shaped scroll on the inside of the planet.
With this coordinate warp circle, she could summon reinforcements from across the continent. It was thanks to this circle that she had been able to cause that Drake raid incident at the entrance ceremony.
It’s the last resort.
She lit a stick. Mana began circulating within her body.
In an instant, her thinking accelerated.
Do I prioritize not upsetting sis, or.......
The Lodestone.
Clutching her bloody chest, Rosemary concluded.
Of course it’s the latter.
Change of plans.
Set the coordinates, and think of which Beast to summon from their base. After finishing the calculations, Rosemary clapped her hands together.
Shwaaa!
Light yellow mana began circulating on the inside of the giant magic circle.
“Y-you started it, sis.......”
Fwump.
Her legs gave out, having barely supported her. Rosemary lay down with her stomach pointing upwards. She saw a stained beige ceiling.
Her intensely navy hair like that of a blueberry was becoming like a grape due to being soaked in dark blood. Was she going to turn into wine like this?
The random thought didn’t last long.
Baaang!
“Ah, she’s here!”
“Good work, you found her! Finish her off!”
Rosemary’s citrine eyes rolled down.
The damn Marquis’ party gathered before her. Soon, an intangible muzzle was aimed at her forehead.
She understood now.
[Legendary Innate Magic ─ White Night]
That was sis two’s work.
It must be a lesser version.
The real thing was much stronger. Even just a scratch could kill you.
She couldn’t think straight anymore. For the first time in centuries, Rosemary felt her life in danger.
Click.
“Make sure to aim for her head this time. The stubborn ones can stay alive until the mana stone is extracted.”
Everything from the frontal lobe to the cervical spine was a Beast’s weakness as they held the mana stones that powered them.
A lesser version as it may be, a direct hit from White Night in between her eyes would be instant death.
However.
She wasn’t afraid.
“......It’s game over, you fools.”
Rosemary’s mouth curved up like a bow.
Brrruuuuu─
The tides had already turned.
Freyr pointed where the Louvterre Cultural Center was. Checking the direction, I quickly waded through the crowd.
“Miss!”
“...You guys!”
Even the teacher seemed confused by the current situation.
Of course, since Heerlein was on the same side as Robespierre.
There wasn’t time to chat. As soon as I got to Miss Heerlein, I explained everything.
“We need to get the people to the corridors.”
“Um....”
Heerlein hesitated, most likely trying to understand what I meant.
Instead of explaining further, I looked up at the sky. Heerlein followed suit.
The sky was the color of a dark gray rat like uraninite, forecasting heavy rainfall.
“...How long do the eaves need to be?”
“It needs to accommodate as many people as possible.”
I didn’t know what it was yet, but a rain that you absolutely couldn’t be caught under was going to fall.
Heerlein, who had been looking at me doubtfully, shook her head and took a breath.
“Alright, if that’s what you say, Aether. I’ll help. Can you come with me, Shelkany?”
“I have to do it, too?”
“The more people transmuting, the better.”
Freyr and I briefly separated.
Not long after, the outer wall of the Louvterre Center was torn down.
Some of the torn walls transformed into a large eave. They couldn’t pull from the earth with all the people, so they had used the building as material instead.
The exterior of the other buildings were also changed one by one.
Good, with this we’ve taken minimal measures. All that was left was to convince the people to evacuate.......
Just then.
Plop, plop, plop.
The sky began to cry.
“.......”
A few translucent raindrops fell onto my hand. I looked at them in silence.
“Oh what, is it raining?”
“What should I do, I didn’t bring an umbrella.”
“No wonder, it was looking a bit cloudy earlier.”
At best, it wasn’t couldn’t even be called a drizzle. A feeble rain that didn’t require an umbrella.
But.
I had a bad feeling. I quickly ducked into the corridors while yelling for people to come under the eaves.
It was an urgent shout, but many of them weren’t listening. ‘What’s the fuss about such little rain?’ was how most of them reacted.
The first to notice were none other than the elves. The exchange students were the first to gather around me.
“What kind of rain is this, it’s creepy....”
“There’s ominous mana in the raindrops. I don’t think we should let the people be touched by them!”
Merilda and Erika approached shivering. I nodded profusely at their assessment.
“...Ugh.”
Erika let out a small moan.
“What is it?”
“M-my hand...!”
Erika raised her left hand.
The skin touched by the rain had turned silver. A gas like mercury vapor emitted from the discolored area.
“Wh-what is this.”
“O-oh my god.......”
Erika and Merilda, as well as the other elves started letting out shocked cries.
“It’s hot, it stings, it feels like I’ve been burned by a pot......!”
Erika began sobbing, and similar cries erupted from around the eaves. The Academy instantly turned into a field hospital with no doctors or nurses.
“It hurts, it hurts!!”
“Somebody, my child...! Something’s wrong with my child......!!”
“Painkillers! Painkillers! Painkilleeers!!”
The people flocked to the eaves, Heerlein and Freyr also amongst them.
Tearing up, Freyr waved her hands around. She looked like she was trying to say something, but she was having trouble vocalizing with her lips trembling.
I grasped her shoulders and made her take deep breaths. Biting down on her lips, Freyr finally managed to speak.
“Hey, th-there’s something wrong people...! Th-their bodies just turned into monsters...! And they’re going around eating the other people......!”
“What?”
My gaze shot forward. The rain was thicker than before.
The people who were late turned silver, then started emitting steam from their whole bodies.
Some were on the ground, and others were stumbling this way like an addict walking around Kensington Street.
Children and adults alike, the complexions of those who barely managed to evacuate turned deathly pale.
Shwaaaaaaa!
The rain became even thicker. The people who couldn’t escape the rain–
The people....
“Shit, wh-what is that!!”
Behind those who were now dead, the shadow of a giant cast the corridor.
Boom, boom, boom.
It was a great rumbling through the earth that shook the body.
Bruuuu–a deep sound like a ship’s horn resounded in the air. It was a sound that made one’s lungs shrivel up.
The people gathered in the corridor shrieked at the top of their lungs.
“That’s.......”
It had yellow eyes, and instead of a shell on its back it had an exhaust vent and gun barrel. Its face was half-melted from being plasmatized, and it was chewing on something between teeth with all the hypodermis exposed.
It was a turtle.
[Nonus of the Great Nine Mechas ─ ‘Steam Iron’ Vanta Tortoise]A black turtle the size of most high-rise buildings.
Crunch─! went the sound of flesh being chewed.
Vanta Tortoise spit out the meat it had in its mouth. Boom! Half of a form shot forth like a shell and crashed into the ground.
There, it was the dead upper half of the chairman.
The students screamed.
“Ah, ah.......”
Heerlein’s eyes opened wide like never before. But there was no time to panic.
“It’s a monster that the The First Prince summoned together with the Beasts!”
“We need to find the caster and kill them!”
The wretched incitement began.
“......What do you mean it was the First Prince?”
“Didn’t you hear! The Prince broke out of prison and conspired with the Beasts to take over our country!”
“H-he did?”
It was a ridiculous claim, yet the people gradually began to believe it. It was as if a plague was going around.
“...Brainwashing.”
It was Septimus, Orléans’ ability.
He was controlling the thoughts of those with weak or normal wills without them knowing. The strange air wasn’t only outside of the corridors.
I didn’t mind the incitement; I had no doubt that the tranmigrator would take good care of things.
And so, I decided to do what I could here.
“So you’ve crossed the line, after all.”
Shhhk.
