Chapter 4: Chapter 4

After receiving the message, Jark was about to head out again when Kathe stopped him.

"Why are you blocking my way, Miss?" he asked, raising an eyebrow.

"Come and eat. Your food is still on the dining table," she said, pointing toward it.

"I don’t eat late. Please move."

He tried to walk past her, but Kathe refused to back down. She quickly stepped in front of him again.

"I don’t care. You asked us to act like a couple, didn’t you? Well, this is a good place for us to start, dear husband."

She gently pushed him toward the dining table.

"Now sit down and eat."

Not wanting to listen to her nagging any longer, Jark reluctantly took a seat.

That night, he was forced to eat dinner because of Kathe.

After finishing his meal, he left the mansion again later that night.

The following morning, Kathe once again made sure he ate breakfast before leaving for work.

Even the old butlers were surprised, as it was rare for their boss to have breakfast.

That afternoon, clothes, handbags, shoes, skincare products, and other necessities for ladies were delivered to Kathe.

She immediately knew Jark had ordered everything for her.

With the old lady’s help, Kathe arranged all her belongings in her room.

That evening, Jark returned home much earlier than expected. To everyone’s surprise, he even had dinner with Kathe.

The old lady couldn’t help but smile as she noticed the positive changes in her boss’s behavior.

After dinner, the two of them discussed the terms and conditions of their contract.

"You should get some sleep now. We’ll be leaving very early tomorrow morning," Jark said.

Kathe nodded and returned to her room.

She was already exhausted and had no energy left to argue with him.

That night, she slept peacefully as the sound of the rain filled the air.

Jark, however, couldn’t sleep that night. He still had a lot of work to do.

After working on his laptop for a while, he stopped and walked out onto the balcony, quietly staring at the falling rain.

He took out a pack of cigarettes and lit one, hoping it would calm his nerves.

He hated the rain because it always brought back painful memories that haunted him like a demon trapped deep within his heart, waiting to be unleashed.

Just as he was lost in thought, his phone rang. The caller’s name appeared in red on the screen.

A faint smirk appeared on his face before he answered the call.

"Speak," he commanded.

"I found something serious about the operation you sent me on..."

The caller briefed Jark on everything he had discovered.

Jark’s smirk widened.

"Dig deeper. Also, erase every trace of her existence. Make her new identity completely authentic. Eliminate every possible threat. You know I hate leaving jobs unfinished."

"Yes, Boss."

Jark ended the call.

He rubbed his chin thoughtfully, carefully processing every piece of information he had just received.

He flicked the remaining cigarette into the rain before walking back into his room to continue working.

Throughout the entire night, Jark never closed his eyes. Partly because of the rain, and partly because he buried himself in work to keep his mind occupied.

By ten o’clock the following morning, they had already arrived at Jark’s private airport.

Kathe looked around in confusion.

"What are you looking for?" Jark asked when he noticed she had stopped walking.

"I forgot to ask... I never saw our flight tickets, and this looks like a private airport. That’s why I’m confused."

"We’re taking my private jet, not a commercial flight," he replied as he continued walking.

"You own a private jet?" she asked curiously, her eyes sparkling as she hurried after him.

"You’ve never been on one before?"

He slowed his pace after noticing she was almost running to keep up with him.

"I’ve never even seen one before," Kathe admitted as her eyes wandered around excitedly like a curious child.

"But Douglas is a well-known businessman. How have you never been on a private jet?"

The moment her father’s name was mentioned, Kathe’s smile disappeared.

Jark immediately noticed the change in her expression.

"I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have brought that up."

"No... it’s okay."

She waved her hand dismissively, trying to brush the topic aside.

The two of them continued walking toward the jet in silence, with Jark deliberately slowing his pace so Kathe could comfortably walk beside him.

Kathe’s mood brightened the moment they stepped inside the private jet.

She walked around excitedly, asking one question after another, while Jark answered each of them patiently without showing the slightest sign of annoyance.

Even the flight attendants were surprised by how approachable their boss seemed.

The jet landed at the airport at six o’clock that evening.

By then, Kathe had already fallen fast asleep, cuddling Jark’s coat.

"Wake up, Kathe. We’ve arrived," Jark said softly, gently nudging her shoulder.

Kathe mumbled something under her breath before curling up again like a sleepy kitten.

Jark couldn’t help but smile at how adorable she looked.

Carefully, he lifted her into his arms, making sure the coat remained wrapped around her.

Instinctively, she snuggled closer to him like a little kitten.

The moment Jark stepped out of the jet, a cold breeze swept across them.

The chill woke Kathe almost immediately.

"What are you doing?" she exclaimed as soon as she opened her eyes and realized she couldn’t move freely because she was in his arms.

"What else would I be doing besides carrying my wife?" he teased with a smirk.

Kathe’s face instantly turned bright red.

She was completely embarrassed.

"I demand that you put me down," she said, her face still burning with embarrassment.

"Okay."

Jark answered calmly before dropping her down.

"Ouch!"

Kathe cried out in pain as her feet hit the ground awkwardly.

"You didn’t have to drop me like that."

She glared at him.

"You asked me to put you down, and I did."

His reply was as blunt as ever.

With a faint smirk, he took a pair of sunglasses from his shirt pocket, put them on, and casually surveyed his surroundings.

One of the guards quickly helped Kathe back to her feet.

The airport was surrounded by a convoy of luxury cars, making it look as though an important national figure had just arrived.

Kathe couldn’t help but stare at Jark curiously, wondering who he really was.

Unfortunately for her, Jark caught her staring.

"I know I’m handsome, but could you please get into the car?"

Kathe rolled her eyes and muttered under her breath,

"I’d rather call a dog handsome."

Jark lowered his sunglasses slightly and looked at her.

"What did you say?"

"Nothing," Kathe replied quickly before hurrying into the car.

Jark watched her with an amused smirk as she fled like a startled little rabbit.

The drive was quiet, each of them lost in their own thoughts.

Kathe, especially, knew this was the beginning of a completely new Chapter in her life.

It wouldn’t be easy.

Deep down, she knew danger lay ahead.

After all, staying beside a man like Jark meant living with danger.

Even so, she was willing to face whatever came her way if it meant achieving the freedom she had always wanted.
