Chapter 26: Wife on sexy suit
"We are here," Jark’s voice sounded in the car as he looked out of the window.
Kathe, whose face was buried in the company rule book, lifted up her face, confused.
"This is a mall."
"Yes," Jark replied.
"What are we doing in the mall?" she asked as a thought clicked in her mind. ’Hope he didn’t prank me about the job.’
"To get rid of your pajamas, or do you want to wear this on your first day at work?" Jark replied.
"No, sorry. I didn’t know." She had forgotten that she was in her pajamas.
They got out of the car and went inside the mall. It seemed like the mall had been informed because the moment they stepped inside, they were welcomed by some people. Kathe could guess through their dressing that they held important positions in the mall. When they got close to them, they all bowed to Jark, which made Kathe raise her eyebrow as she questioned his identity.
’How can one man have so much power?’
It felt like Jark was reading her mind. He turned to her, leaning in as he whispered, "I own a share here, so don’t be scared. I’m not selling you."
"Like I care to know," she replied, annoyed.
One of the men was trying to engage in a conversation with Jark as he was leading the way. Kathe tried to eavesdrop on them, but seeing that Jark seemed uninterested in the conversation, she dropped the idea.
Just as they were close to the elevator, they saw two ladies rushing toward them. One of them looked a little familiar to Kathe as she racked her brain, trying to remember where she had seen her.
"Oh my gosh, is that Jark Harley?"
"He’s so hot. Oh my God!"
Jark frowned as the two pretty ladies approached them, their bodies barely covered.
"I thought you said that the mall was cleared," Jark said, turning to one of the shareholders.
The man coughed out of embarrassment. "Sir, this is my daughter, Ariel."
The one with the most revealing outfit approached Jark with a smile.
"Hello, Jark. My name is Ariel," she said, stretching out her hand to Jark in a seductive manner.
Jark lifted his hand. Instead of giving her a handshake, he tucked his hand into his pocket.
Kathe couldn’t help but chuckle at Jark’s action. Ariel, feeling embarrassed, withdrew her hand and glared at Kathe.
"She learnt design, and she is in the entertainment world. You must have heard of her; she is now famous." Her father went on promoting Ariel as she raised her chin proudly, popping her breast out.
Kathe understood very well what the father was trying to do. He was trying to match Jark with his daughter. She couldn’t help but feel disgusted by their actions.
"Do you know why I asked for the mall to be cleared in the first place?" Jark asked calmly.
"Because you don’t want any attention from the crowd," he replied.
"No." Jark sneaked his hand around Kathe’s waist and drew her closer to himself. "Because my wife doesn’t like people. She prefers her privacy, so I don’t want this to repeat itself again."
Though it was an act, Kathe couldn’t ignore the little ripple in her heart as she stared at Jark, who was giving a warning look to the man.
"I’m sorry, sir. I... I didn’t know you were married, sir."
"I know you didn’t know. That’s why I’m letting you off the hook."
The man nodded. Ariel was left in shock as she stared at Kathe, her mind ringing. ’How could the great Jark marry a woman who is dressed in pajamas?’
"Please leave the way. You’re making my wife nauseous."
Ariel couldn’t believe her ears as she stood rooted to the spot. No man had ever rejected her that way. Her best friend had to drag her out of the way, while her father buried his head in shame. It was his daughter’s dream to meet Jark. He blamed himself more for getting greedy, thinking that his daughter would be able to seduce Jark.
With the space clear, they walked to the elevator, which led to a private room, leaving Ariel and her best friend behind.
Jark’s hand was still on her. The private room door opened on its own the moment they got close.
’This is wealth.’
Those words kept ringing in Kathe’s head.
"The female hostesses are inside. They will help her with the dress," one of the men said.
"It’s okay. You all can leave," Jark said as he waved his hand at them.
They bowed and left, but Ariel’s father stood still, making Jark raise a questioning eyebrow at him.
"Sir, I’m so sorry about earlier. I swear..."
"It’s okay. Your spot as the manager is safe."
"Thank you very much, sir." He bowed, relieved that he was off the hook. He gave Kathe a brief look and walked away.
"Let’s go in," Jark said as he shifted for her to go in first.
"Are you going in with me?"
"Silly, there is a waiting room inside, and also, you are my wife, so there’s nothing to hide."
Kathe rolled her eyes at him. She was also glad that he would be in the waiting room. She wasn’t ready for anyone to see her naked.
Kathe walked in while Jark followed behind, her mouth hanging open. The room looked like a five-star hotel.
"Ma’am, this way."
Kathe turned to look at the lady, who seemed to have been waiting for a while. Kathe nodded at her.
"I’m going in."
"Of course, you are to go in, or were you planning to dress in my front?" Jark teased.
Kathe could only roll her eyes at him as she followed the lady in.
.........................................
"What do you think, boss?" Thompson asked.
"I think the story doesn’t make sense. Everything seems well played, like a plot, and there are a lot of errors in it. Jacklyn..." Jark paused on his words as he lit a stick of cigarette.
"That’s right."
"I want you to dig more information about her family. Things there seem ugly."
"I will, boss."
Just as they were discussing, Kathe walked out of the dressing room. Jark quickly trashed the cigarette.
"Thompson, I thought you were in the office with Rhea," she asked as she scanned around the room in search of Rhea.
"Yes, I was, but boss asked me to come for business."
Jark looked at her from head to toe He was really impressed by her features. She was in a short brown skirt, a white shirt covered with a brown suit, and black heels, giving her a sexy boss vibe.
"You look like you are about to seduce a client, but I like it," he said, smiling at her.
"Is that meant to be a compliment?" Kathe asked, raising her eyebrow at him.
"No, but if you wish, you can take it as one. Let’s get going. The rest of the dresses will be delivered at home," Jark said, checking his watch.
They all walked out of the private room, with Kathe right beside Jark. Thompson, who was walking behind, couldn’t help but admire them as they looked like a god and goddess.
When the elevator clicked open, Ariel ran toward Jark, pushing Kathe aside, making her stumble due to the heels she was wearing. Luckily, Thompson caught Kathe on time.
"Jark, look at me even once!" she screamed as she tugged on his suit, desperation written all over her voice.
"Ariel, let go!" her friend tried removing her hands from Jark’s suit.
Jark turned his face to her father. He couldn’t help but look down. From the look of things, he had tried controlling his daughter, but she couldn’t bear Jark’s rejection.
Smack!
The room went quiet for a second. No one had expected Kathe to slap Ariel. Even Jark himself was taken aback.
"Get your hands off my husband, slut!"
Ariel noticed that there was a difference between the earlier Kathe, who was in pajamas, and the Kathe who was in a sexy suit. She gave off an air of authority. Ariel slowly released her hand and stepped back.
"Thompson, handkerchief," Kathe said as she stretched her hand backward.
Her tone even made Thompson shiver slightly.
"I’m not with it, ma’am."
"Then make sure to trash the suit. I don’t want him wearing it again," she said and walked out of the mall.
Thompson couldn’t help but notice that Kathe and his boss’s temperaments were the same.
"You heard what she said. Burn it." Jark took off the suit and gave it to Thompson.
He walked away. When he was close to the glass door, he stopped and looked at some of the members.
"You all should vote for a new mall manager."
With that, he walked out of the mall.
