Chapter 21: Contract rules, who needs to obey
All throughout the night, Kathe kept tossing around the bed. She couldn’t sleep as ideas kept popping into her brain.
She turned over and met with Jark, who was fast asleep, or so she thought. He had crossed his elbow over his face.
She couldn’t help but admire his perfect features, his thick brows knotted together, his lips tempting like a forbidden apple.
She couldn’t help but gulp as she admired every side of his features. She smiled proudly.
"Guess what? I’m his wife."
She was determined to make him change his mind.
........................................
The following morning, before anyone was awake, Kathe rushed down to the kitchen and made breakfast for Jark. She wasn’t really a good cook since she hardly cooked back in her father’s mansion.
She quickly went on the internet and searched for an easy breakfast to prepare.
She got lucky and found the simplest one: toasted bread with coffee. Though on her first attempt, the bread was a little burnt, she got it right on the third try.
After setting the meal on a fancy tray, she smiled proudly to herself.
"Good morning, ma’am," one of the maids greeted the moment she spotted Kathe taking pictures of the food.
Causing Kathe to get startled, she turned to face the maid.
"No one should hear of this, okay?"
"Okay," the maid nodded with a smile.
Kathe quickly carried the food out of the kitchen in a hurry. She didn’t want anyone to spot her with the meal, but unfortunately, the old lady spotted her.
"Kathe, what’s with the tray?" the old lady asked curiously.
"I made breakfast for Jark." Kathe replied grinning from ear to ear.
"Oh, did he come back early last night?"
"Yes, and he ate dinner." she replied proudly.
"That’s good. Hurry so that the bread won’t get cold." the old lady urged her with a proud grin.
Kathe smiled and rushed to the room. On getting there, she couldn’t find Jark on the bed. She dropped the tray on a nearby table.
She remembered clearly that he was on the bed when she left. She was about to go to his workspace when the bathroom door opened.
Kathe turned, only to find Jark wet, with only a towel wrapped around his waist, looking like a god summoned to earth. This was the first time Kathe had seen Jark half-naked. She always woke up to find him fully dressed.
She could clearly see the tattoo drawn on his chest. It was the shape of a dragon, giving him a dangerous and sexy aura.
"Is he even human?" she thought.
"Seen enough?" Jark asked with a smirk on his face.
"What? I... I..." She quickly turned her back to him.
"What?" Jark asked as he began walking toward her.
Kathe could feel his presence getting closer and closer, his scent filling her nose. Her cheeks flushed as she quickly mustered her courage and spoke out.
"I brought you breakfast."
Jark stopped in his tracks as he noticed the food tray on his table.
"Is this for another favor?"
"No, out of goodwill," Kathe replied as she quickly ran out of the room to avoid Jark seeing her embarrassed expression.
Jark couldn’t help but smirk to himself as he murmured.
"I found myself a little lamb, so innocent."
Kathe was in the sitting room with the old lady when she noticed Rhea fully dressed in her office wear.
"Grandma, I’m ready to head to the office. Is Jark down?" she asked the old lady, ignoring Kathe’s presence.
"I think you should ask his wife. She knows the answer."
"I’ll go grab some breakfast before he comes down," she changed the topic. She wasn’t in the mood to exchange words with Kathe.
Kathe also wasn’t in the mood to exchange words with her.
"Grandma, I’ll be back. Let me check on Jark for a moment."
"Go ahead, dear," the old lady said, taking a sip from her tea.
Kathe couldn’t find Jark in the room, so she went to his workspace. On getting close, she found Thompson walking out of the room.
"Good morning, ma’am," he greeted Kathe the moment he got close to her.
"Morning."
He was about to walk past her when she stopped him.
"Can I ask you a question?"
"Yes, sure," Thompson replied, feeling thrilled that Kathe spoke to him freely.
"Where does Rhea work?"
"Oh, that? She works for the company."
"Which company?"
"Our company."
"But I haven’t seen her dressed for work before."
"She had been on leave."
"Okay, you can go, and thank you."
"You’re welcome."
He walked away.
Jark was signing some documents when Kathe walked in. He looked at her briefly before returning his eyes to his work.
"Breakfast was good, but next time don’t overheat the bread," he teased.
"I’m not here to talk about the breakfast."
That was when Jark noticed that her tone was different.
"What’s wrong?"
"Is Rhea working in your company?"
"Yes, she is."
"Why?"
She didn’t know why something inside her cracked a little as she asked that question.
"Is that meant to be a question?" he asked, raising his eyebrow at her.
His reply made Kathe chuckle sadly.
"Why can’t I work?" The argument was turning into a heated one.
"It wasn’t in the contract."
"It wasn’t also in the contract for me not to get a job."
"Enough. I made the rules, you obey them."
He stood up and walked past Kathe, but on getting to the door, he stopped.
"Do have a great day."
With that, he walked out of the room.
After staying inside the room for some minutes, she walked out to chase after him. But she was met with a completely different scene in front of her.
Rhea spotted Kathe from the stairs and quickly put her arms around Jark’s arm.
"Come on, boss, we’re late. We need to get going."
She kept drifting her eyes toward Kathe.
Jark nodded at Rhea’s words, and the both of them walked out of the mansion.
Kathe was left staring at their departing backs. Before completely exiting the mansion, Rhea gave Kathe a smirk.
Kathe’s hands clenched into fists as she stomped to the room angrily.
The old lady was old but not blind. She could see that the couple had a fight. She just sighed, shook her head slightly, and murmured softly,
"Young kids."
Then she took a sip from her tea.
