Chapter 89: Yu Wen’s sacrifice

AN: I am so sorry, I am not feeling well, so we will have one Chapter today as well. I hope tomorrow, I will be more energetic. So sorry for typos. I edited the Chapter today.

If anyone passed by, people would think that Lu Anu and Li Jun were food bloggers. They made those desserts seem like transcendent divine sustenance bestowed upon them by the gods. Lu Anu discovered that they had the same tastes. Not only did they share the same tastes, but when he shared all his adventures, she found out that they liked the same things.

Only the heavens knew that if Yu Wen failed to secure Li Jun, she might disown him. After eating their fill, she wasn’t ready to let him go. She suggested they take a walk and shop around, but Li Jun was hesitant at first. He was worried that Yu Wen would show up. He really couldn’t bear to see him.

Seeing him hesitate, she knew what he was worried about, so she said, "Don’t worry about him. He is probably sulking somewhere. He does that a lot."

Li Jun felt a twinge in his chest, but he suppressed the feeling. If he started to get soft-hearted now, it would only make things more difficult. He said, "Sure, I can push back my plans."

Lu Anu was so happy. She was about to pay the bill, but Li Jun refused. He couldn’t let the lady pay, no matter what. Seeing that he was so adamant, she let it go. The pair left the hotel and took a walk in the fashion hub of Dravon.

While the two of them were frolicking around, Yu Wen woke up with a jolt. His head throbbed painfully like someone had struck his head with a rock. Last night, he had been so depressed that he did something he normally wouldn’t. 𝓯𝙧𝓮𝓮𝒘𝓮𝙗𝙣𝒐𝒗𝒆𝓵.𝓬𝓸𝒎

He poured himself a drink, and two glasses in, he was gone. The last thing he remembered was sitting on the bed, looking dejected. He did remember hearing some knocking, but it was so faint that he thought he was dreaming. He swung his legs off the bed and looked at the bedside.

There was a bottle of a sober-up drink. He assumed it had to be his mother who brought it for him. She had also left a note asking him to eat something. Yu Wen sighed before gulping it down. After drinking it, he felt much better. He walked towards the bathroom to wash up. As the sound of the water trickled down, his phone, which had been dark, lit up.

It was Alex. He called one more time after that, but when the call wasn’t answered, he could only send a message. Thirty minutes later, Yu Wen walked out of the bathroom and changed into a set of clean clothes.

He was thinking of going to get something to eat and talk to his mother about what happened last night. Knowing how smart his mother was, she would have found out by now that he messed up.

It was best he brought it up himself before she asked. Just as he opened the door to look for his mother, his phone rang again. His brows creased when he saw it was Alex. He answered it and asked, "Did something happen?"

Alex was so happy to hear his voice. When Yu Wen didn’t answer, he thought his intel was bad and that the attack had already happened. Hearing his voice, he was so relieved. He said, "General, Helion is going to attack Dravon today. That’s the intel we got, and it’s quite reliable."

Yu Wen’s entire body stiffened. He gritted his teeth and asked, "Where exactly?"

Alex replied, saying, "They think that Li Jun is alive and he is somewhere in Dravon. It sounds ridiculous-"

"Get the team here and check everyone’s identity," he said and hung up. Yu Wen rushed out calling his mother, but she wasn’t there. He called her phone, but it rang until it went to voicemail. Yu Wen said , "Where are you?"

Lu Anu, on the other hand, was trying on outfits and asking Li Jun what he thought about them. Li Jun was used to his mother asking him what she thought of her outfits. To impress his mother, he had made a point to study fashion trends. Thus, even after his mother died, he was still up to date on what looked good.

She spun around and asked, "Really pretty?"

Li Jun said, "Very pretty. The color suits you, and the design is impeccable."

Lu Anu chuckled and said, "You have a sweet mouth. You know how to flatter me."

He laughed and said, "I am not flattering you. I am very honest. Auntie, I wouldn’t want you walking around looking less dazzling. You should wear the clothes, not the clothes wearing you, and drowning your radiance."

She smiled and said, "Alright. I will believe you for now. Let me try on the last one." She entered the changing room, and Li Jun waited patiently. Just then, he received a call from Damian. He glanced at the changing room door and got up to answer it. His uncle wouldn’t call without notifying him in advance unless it was an emergency.

Damian said, "Kid, you didn’t leave like you said you would."

He replied, saying, "No, something came up. What’s wrong?"

His uncle was truly terrified when he realized he hadn’t left the capital city. Damian said, "I will organize for you to leave the city now."

Li Jun, "..."

"What the hell happened. I can’t just leave and save myself," he said. He knew the only reason his uncle was saying this was because something big had happened. Damian was only looking out for him.

His uncle seemed displeased, but he still said, "Helion is looking for you; they want to kill you." Li Jun knew that his little ruse had been exposed.

He swore, "Shit," and looked around before asking, "If I get away from everyone, will that work?"

Damian was about to answer when a loud explosion tore through the building. Li Jun braced himself as the sound of shattering glass and people screaming and scattering for their lives filled the air.

He couldn’t let anything happen to innocent people, so he ran out of the store. He met the gaze of one of the attackers. When they saw him, they pointed their weapon at him, but he managed to dodge and slip away.

The attacker called out to the others before chasing him down. This was what Li Jun wanted. He wanted to draw attention away from Lu Anu. If anything happened to her, then he would never forgive himself.

Some of the shadow guards he brought formed a blockade around the luxury store to protect Lu Anu while the others followed him. The luxury mall was in chaos with customers running in all directions. A series of explosions followed, and Li Jun took cover with the others. Loud screams echoed in his ears.

As soon as it quieted down, he ran out of the mall. Enraged by the chaotic image of people running for their lives, he yelled, "I am here. Come get me, you fucking bastards!"

The assassins who had been determined to hunt him down responded accordingly. They followed him, and there was a series of explosions. Li Jun’s men intercepted the attacks, and he ran in a different direction.

Just when he turned the corner, he was met by a chaotic group of people. He was caught in the wave of the fleeing crowd. He pushed through while yelling, "Head for the exits. Don’t stop." He pushed and shoved his way out of the crowd. Just then, he was met by a woman with a plasma cannon in her hand.

She smirked and said, "Got you," before pulling the trigger. Li Jun swore internally. Before he could react, he was tackled to the ground. A flash of gold light followed after him, and the smell of burning flesh.

Li Jun’s eyes widened. He couldn’t believe it. What the hell was Yu Wen doing here? Why did he rush over here to save him? Yu Wen grimaced from the pain as he embraced him tightly, shielding him from the attack.

He was about to check Yu Wen’s injuries when a series of explosions followed. Li Jun felt his ears ringing, and he couldn’t think properly for a second before he was knocked out cold. The sound of screams faded into the distance.

The next time Li Jun opened his eyes, he was in the medical bay. The bright lights blinded him for a second, and he didn’t react. When he remembered that Yu Wen had been around him when he lost consciousness, he sat up too quickly. His head spun, feeling nauseous. Just then, Lu Anu rushed over.

She held him down and said, "Don’t move. You are just going to hurt yourself." She made sure he lay back down before saying, "Just rest, okay?"

Li Jun wouldn’t let this go. He was really worried about Yu Wen, so he asked, "Is Yu Wen okay?"

Lu Anu pulled up the covers and said, "He is fine. He just has a few injuries which are being looked at, so don’t worry, okay?"

Li Jun nodded as he closed his eyes. But the scene of Yu Wen shielding kept playing in his mind.
