Chapter 69: Fenris Figurine

Yu Wen cherished this gift so much that he placed it on his office desk. It wasn’t like other mech figurines sold commercially. It was made with the finest material and crafted by someone who designed mechs. The craftsmanship was exceptional. It could only have been made by a grandmaster, the best in the game.

He had always wanted to know who had gifted this to him, but he also knew they didn’t want to be named otherwise, they would have claimed credit. Who would have thought that it was a gift from Li Jun, and he didn’t even say anything to him. If he wasn’t mistaken, that very day during training, they sparred, but it turned into a real fight, and they had to be separated.

He was in disbelief. How could Li Jun still gift him things when he clearly hated him? Why did he help him even when he had clearly expressed his feelings towards him? He despised Li Jun for years, yet Li Jun was quietly kind to him. That realization made him feel shame and utter devastation.

He wanted to go and apologize, to ask him why he did all of this, but Li Jun was no longer here. He had to go find him. He had to go and hunt him down. Li Jun was like a ghost. He didn’t want to be found, but Yu Wen would do whatever it takes to find him.

While he was standing there staring at the mech in his hands, the door opened. Lu Anu had been trying to get hold of him all day, but Yu Wen hadn’t answered any of her calls. Worried that he had fallen back to old habits, she came to his place unannounced. She was right to come because her son, who rarely, if ever, fell sick, was standing there, his complexion sickly and his eyes bloodshot.

In his hand, he was holding the miniature mech that he valued so much. His expression was like that of a person whose world had collapsed. Lu Anu called out, "Ah-Wen."

Yu Wen raised his head, his eyes glossed over. He called out, "Mum," his voice fragile and trembling. It was filled with grief and heavy sorrow. The raw pain in his call made it seem like he might break apart at any moment.

She walked over and pressed her hand on his forehead. He felt hot like he had a fever. "You are sick," she said as she helped him sit down. "Didn’t I tell you to rest? You never listen to me."

He wanted to argue, but Lu Anu wasn’t having it. She called the doctor and forced him to go to bed. He was stubborn, but his mother could be even more stubborn than he was if she wanted to. Left with no choice, he went to bed and waited for the doctor to arrive.

The entire time, he was staring at the figurine on his bedside table like he was afraid that if he looked away for a second, it would disappear just like the person who gifted it to him. Just as Lu Anu suspected, the doctor said he had overexerted himself and fallen ill. He gave him some medication and ordered him to be on bed rest for the next two days.

She thanked him for his time and showed him out. When she came back, she looked at her son at a loss. He was still staring at the figurine with a lost look in his eyes. Lu Anu poured out some water for him while saying, "Do you want to tell me what’s going on?"

Yu Wen glanced at his mother before looking away. He wasn’t ready to tell her the entire truth of how his father died and what his crime was. He was angry with Yu Hu for putting all their lives at risk by colluding with Helion like that, but that wasn’t his main focus right now. He was thinking more about Li Jun and how to make sense of everything.

Since his mother was the only one he could trust with such personal matters, he asked, "What could make someone you clearly hate do nice things for you? I just don’t understand."

Her brow arched at his words. She already knew who he was talking about, so she didn’t ask. What she was curious about, though, was what nice things. "What did he do?" she asked, trying to restrain her excitement. Yu Wen rarely told her anything or asked for advice, so she didn’t want to ruin it by acting too excited. She didn’t want to scare him away.

"He... he helped me that night when he didn’t have to. He could have thrown me out onto the street and let me embarrass myself. Not only that, but he gifted me the figurine. I just... I just don’t understand why he would do that for me when he knows I hate him," he said, the pain in his voice evident.

Lu Anu looked at the small mech with genuine surprise. She remembered when his son brought it back home, he was so excited that he didn’t even let her touch it. At first, she thought a girl who had a secret crush on him gave it to him. It looked expensive and immaculate, as though commissioned by a mech engineer.

She thought it was too expensive for a gift, and she wanted him to at least reciprocate or return it, but he didn’t know who sent it. So how did he find out that it was Li Jun? "How did you know it was him?" she asked, and Yu Wen twisted the bottom.

Inside was the card he had put back. He handed it to her, and she read it. Her expression remained the same, but internally her girlish heart was screaming. Did Li Jun actually like her stupid son at some point? That was the only thing that made sense. "It’s his handwriting. He gave it to me," he said, feeling the ache in his heart intensify.

She gave the card back to him and said, "Well, maybe he wanted to end the conflict between you two, but you were too dumb to know that bottom part opened." Yu Wen couldn’t argue with that.

But why would he let him fuck him, three times at that? He was the one who was drugged, not Li Jun, but Li Jun gladly lay down with him, and from the video, he enjoyed it just as much as he did.
