Chapter 5: Search Warrant
AN: I am so sorry. I spent last week revising Stealing from The Devil in Black but it still didn’t pass. Those who are interested, you can go back and read as it has extra words. I mentioned how it will proceed on my social. I really hope you guys like this project because I had to bring it up at the last minute. Happy reading!!!
After having bite-sized meals in the garden, most of the guests had left the palace grounds. The few that remained were preparing to leave. In the distance, among the peonies, a strikingly handsome man was sitting on the bench and beside him was a beautiful woman chatting with him happily. At a glance, anyone could recognize them both. It was General Yu Wen and the Imperial Princess Yu.
The general had an unreadable expression on his face, which was a huge contrast when compared to Li Yu’s look of excitement. Leaning a little closer, she said, "I shouldn’t have believed him. I should have known that he was lying." She was referring to what Li Jun had told her about Yu Wen and that Miss Lia. At that time, she had been so angry that she embarrassed herself in front of Yu Wen.
Well, she might have regretted her act of being rash, but she was right about that green tea bitch. She was interested in her man, and making a move on him. How could she let that bitch slide? Li Yu was determined to put her in her place after this.
Yu Wen, on the other hand, had wanted to leave earlier but he hadn’t seen Li Yu in a long time. The last time they spoke, he had promised her that they could chat a little longer. After all, it was Yu Wen who had saved him in the past. It would be too ungrateful to be so cold to her. Li Yu said, "So, is there anyone you do like?"
He glanced at his watch and said, "Do we really have to talk about this aga-." His voice suddenly died down as he caught a glimpse of Li Jun’s fleeting back. Li Yu noticed his gaze and when she saw Li Jun, she snorted coldly.
She loved to curse out Li Jun in front of Yu Wen and Yu Wen never stopped her. They both harbored mutual hatred towards him, giving them one thing in common. She said, "I hope this time, they strip his title. He is undeserving of it." Yu Wen was about to respond when his phone rang.
When he saw the caller ID, he got up, saying, "I need to take this." Li Yu nodded and watched him walk a few feet away before answering. She couldn’t help but admire his muscular figure and that cold, striking face that had all the girls on Starnet drooling. Yu Wen was the type of man who was disciplined and restrained, like a monk with no worldly desires.
A lot of women in their circles were determined to conquer him and have him groveling at their feet but none so far had even come close enough to even befriend him. Li Yu was the only one who could sit with him like this and chat. That had everyone shipping them together and others even asking when they would get married.
But Li Yu knew it in her heart that they weren’t anywhere near walking down the aisle. She could still leverage his gratitude for saving him to keep him by her side. But she wanted more than that thus, she was actively pursuing him. And if anyone tried to come close to him, she would make them regret it i.e. Miss Lia whose reputation she was about to ruin.
Yu Wen ended the call and said, "I have to go, something came up."
Li Yu stood up and with a worried look on her face, she asked, "What happened? Are you going on a mission again."
His expression was as usual but the was a glint in his eyes like he was in a good mood. He replied, "No but you might get what you want sooner than you think."
As soon as he said that, she thought of Li Jun and an uncontrollable smile crept up her face. She was so happy that she wanted to embrace him but the last time she tried it, Yu Wen had side-stepped in front of everyone which was so humiliating. Thus, out of fear of being rejected, she didn’t hug him.
She followed him and said, "How about we have dinner together in celebration when you come back."
He glanced back at her and said, "Sure, but only when it’s finalized." When they stepped out of the palace, Yu Wen’s car was already waiting for him. He turned to her and said, "Take care, your Highness."
Li Yu smiled and said, "You too, general," appearing bashful like a shy bride. His deputy Alex, who was standing by the door, smiled, seeing them interacting like this. He bowed to the princess and got into the car as well.
As they drove off, Yu Wen had his head lowered, scrolling down the floating screen. In front of him was a search warrant, signed and stamped by the Imperial court. They had permission to search Club Nova under suspicion of selling an illegal potent drug called Chronos. This drug flooded the streets of the imperial capital during the war with Helion.
It was highly addictive and just a microgram above the maximum dose and someone could die. Helion used this as a weapon, and its recreational use was not limited to regular civilians but officials too. It was for that reason the laws were so strict that if one was found with so much as an ounce of it, they would be imprisoned for a good decade in maximum prison. If one was found producing it and selling it, that was a life sentence.
Yu Wen sneered. He didn’t think Li Jun would be this fucking stupid. But he was like his father after all, arrogant and ruthless. The black-hearted fool probably thought he was untouchable.
Seeing that Yu Wen was in a good mood, Alex met his gaze in the rear-view mirror and said, "The imperial princess seemed reluctant to see you leave."
Yu Wen looked at him and said, "Focus on driving."
Alex chuckled and replied, "I wouldn’t have to if you only let me use the self-driving system." Yu Wen strongly disliked the self-driving system because it had been hacked before and the person who did it was exactly the one he was going to arrest today.
When his destination was changed, the car drove to the red-light district and in minutes, everyone knew that a Red Valkyrie vehicle had been spotted looking for certain services. When he tried to regain control of the vehicle, it completely shut down in the middle of the street, leaving him no choice but to get out.
As soon as he stepped out, they all gathered around him like flies, touching and groping him while asking if he would like to have a good time. Several people happily took pictures of him and by tomorrow morning, the entire academy knew that he had been to the red-light district.
When he confronted Li Jun, he didn’t deny it. They had fought before but this was the worst fight they had been in. What was even more infuriating was that the entire time they were exchanging blows, that psycho was laughing so hard, it was unsettling.
