Chapter 40: Li Jun’s uncles
Unlike when at the club, these lovely young women who had volunteered to join him at the birthday banquet were skilled mercenaries in Blue Sapphire. His grandfather wasn’t too comfortable with him entering the viper’s lair with no security at all.
Li Jun had told his grandpa not to worry too much. This, after all, wasn’t the first time he had gone to the imperial palace without security. Draco had argued that since Xiu Ying was plotting something, it was safer to have his own secret guard. He never argued with his grandfather when it came to his safety. If this would reassure him, then he would take them with him.
As soon as they stepped into the massive hall, they drew everyone’s attention. The entire hall stirred. Some were whispering how disrespectful he was, bringing these women here. Some were staring at the women, their eyes expressing their curiosity.
Xiu Ying, who had already started receiving gifts from the royal family, looked at Li Jun with a smile on her face. Her expression was flawless, but her eyes reflected her true emotions. She was extremely angry. Not only was this bastard late, but he also brought his hoes with him. She had been anticipating seeing Draco, but in his place were six young women all dressed in flashy outfits. Who knows which fucking brothel he had picked them up from?
Restraining her anger, she said, "Your Highness, I thought you wouldn’t come."
Li Jun felt a chill all over his body like someone had suddenly dropped the temperature of the hall to a freezing point. He ignored the feeling and, with his lips curled, he bowed slightly, saying, "How could I miss such a special occasion, Your Majesty? I would have come earlier this time. I just got delayed getting your gift."
Li Yu, who wasn’t as good at reining in her emotions, smiled contemptuously and said, "What? These bit-, these women?"
He reached over and hooked two of the women’s waists and said, "No, these ladies belong to me." The women played their part perfectly. They clung to him and smiled sweetly, making some people in the hall envious.
Li Jun felt a shiver run down his spine like some beast was stalking him in the shadows. He wanted to look around and see who the hell had the balls to look at him like that, but he was more focused on his performance to investigate. On the other hand, her guards had long sensed something amiss and unlike him, they could look around.
Suppressing the unsettling feeling in his stomach, he continued, "I brought a much more special gift for you, your majesty." As soon as he said that, a dazzling gold and white trunk was brought in, and the guests couldn’t help but be curious.
The trunk was set in front of her, and she asked, "What is this?" Li Jun gestured for them to open it. They opened it, and inside was the royal regalia worn at special ceremonies by the imperial kings and queens of the past.
The ceremonial cape went missing after Li Mingze descended into madness. Li Jun knew where it was, it’s just that he didn’t feel like handing it over. Now that he was leaving, he gladly gave it to her. To others, it was just a fancy robe, but to the royal family, this robe solidified Xiu Ying’s rule. Li Jun was genuinely giving up his claim to the throne.
To those who understood the significance, they were stunned. That included Xiu Ying. She didn’t think she would see this robe ever again in her life, let alone wear it. On her inauguration, she had to wear a fake, and that had always been a thorn in her side.
If there was anything they criticized her for was the illegitimacy of her rule and that she even had to wear a fake to be crowned. Xiu Ying knew that the ones spreading this on StarNet were her in-laws, who didn’t want her in this position. Now that Li Jun had given it to her, it truly meant he was fully supporting her takeover.
Li Jun smiled and said, "Your Majesty, aren’t you going to try it on?"
Xiu Ying snapped out of it and gestured for them to bring it over. Her attendant brought it to her, and in front of everyone, she helped her put it on. Watching from the crowd were Li Jun’s uncles, Li Guo, Li Muran, and Li Zimo.
Next to them was their only sister, Li Feng. Li Zimo, being the eldest, always knew that the throne belonged to him. It was his birthright. But Li Mingze, that lunatic, wouldn’t hesitate to kill him if he dared challenge him.
Thus, he lay low until he was dead. He thought dealing with this nephew would be easy, but before he could even take action, this useless wastrel, who only knew to drink and hoe around all day, abdicated and gave it to this witch. Now he had even given her the ceremonial robe right in front of everyone. He clenched his fists, his jaw tight to the point of breaking.
Seeing that he was on the verge of exploding, Li Guo patted his shoulder, whispering, "Brother, this is not the time." Li Zimo calmed down somewhat. He was going to find that little shit after this and ask why the fuck he would support an outsider.
After Li Jun had presented his gift, Xiu Ying didn’t want to receive any more. She ordered the banquet to officially start. The sitting arrangement she chose was that all the guests would sit on a long table with her in the main seat.
The seats were assigned, but Li Jun couldn’t care less. He brought his girls with him. He had them sit one on his right and the other five on his left. If anyone dared complain that their seat had been taken, he would send them a warning gaze.
Li Jun was a friendly and playful person, but when he was serious, he had the majestic presence of an Imperial King. Afraid to offend him, they could only shut their mouths and walk away.
Just as Li Jun sat down, the official sitting opposite him was suddenly told to move. He wanted to protest, but when he saw that fierce gaze, he got up in a hurry. Yu Wen sat down facing Li Jun, and when their gazes met, the atmosphere became tense. Tanya, sitting to his left, whispered, "That’s the one who has been staring at you, your highness."
Li Jun sneered, their gazes still locked. In Yu Wen’s eyes, they looked like a pair of love birds whispering sweet nothings to each other. He swallowed, suppressing the feeling in his chest.
Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse, Li Yu came and sat right next to Yu Wen. Lord knows which poor soul was scared by her ugly expression.
