Chapter 35: Let’s play a round
AN: Early upload today. I have something to do. Happy reading!
Yu Wen was indeed losing his mind. Since he couldn’t make sense of what was going on with him, he went straight to the source. The so-called ’source’ was in his private lounge as usual, playing games with Yu Xuan. Drinks were flowing and music was playing in the background.
A young woman sat next to Li Jun, their shoulders pressed together, her leg over his. They looked familiar with each other from first impressions alone. Yu Xuan was crying after losing for the second time. They were playing a signature gambling card game, played with a 60-card deck of constellations and energy symbols.
Each player gets five cards, and they can swap out two. They bet on their hand and winning comes from the strongest constellation sets boosted by energy types. Li Jun was so undefeatable that it was puzzling.
He smirked, saying, "Pay up, baby."
Yu Xuan groaned as he watched Li Jun take all the chips off the table. One could ask why he still played games with him if he always lost. It was because he wanted to beat him at something eventually.
He was determined to win at least once, so he kept going and besides, it was fun spending time with him. Also, he really never lost money because Li Jun would make large transfers to him out of the blue. This was why this cycle continued.
While Li Jun was robbing his friend of his fortune, Yu Wen drove himself to Club Nova and parked right outside. When he realized what he was doing, he tried to talk himself out of it. He couldn’t understand why he wouldn’t let this go.
He had read on StarNet that some people slept together for one night and never met again in their entire lives. He should have acted like that, yet here he was, outside the club. Today was ladies’ night and the doors were closed but that had never stopped him.
He got out of the car and walked over to the entrance. As soon as the security saw him, they blocked his path. One of the buff men said, "General, we really can’t let you in. Please come back another night."
Yu Wen, in a calm voice, said, "You are either going to let me in, or I will force my way in. Take your pick." The men steadied themselves, standing their ground. But who were they kidding? They were no match for him. He knocked them out in a few moves and as they lay on the ground, he walked over them.
Inside the club, there were beautiful ladies everywhere. Even the servers and bartenders were women. The scent of cheap perfume and rouge was mingled with sweat as they danced like it was the end of the world.
Yu Wen walked towards the elevator and a few women gazed at him, like staring at meat on a chopping block.
"Hey, handsome."
"Looking for a date there, sweetie."
"Fuck, you are packing."
These were some of the things said to him but he didn’t care to respond. He was determined to catch a certain person. When he reached the hallway towards the same private lounge where they had had sex in, his heart began to beat faster. His steps froze, unable to take a step forward.
While he was hesitating, Yan Jia came flying like a mama bird and blocked his path. With the corner of her lips curled in disdain, she said, "General, this type of stalkerish behaviour is unbecoming of you."
Yu Wen clenched his jaw. Juno was right. She was like an overprotective mother defending her cub. If he wanted to get to Li Jun, he would have to get through her first. "I don’t want to fight you. Now get out of my way," he said.
She sneered and said, "Why? Is it because I am a woman?... Well, this woman will put you in your place," drawing her weapon. She aimed the gun at his chest, her expression fierce. Yu Wen was just as fast. He pulled his gun and aimed it at her forehead. Yan Jia chuckled and said, "We will just have to see who is faster."
Just then, Yan Jia’s phone buzzed. She didn’t want to let this pervert go but she had no choice. She took out her phone, saying, "Excuse me." When she saw it was Li Jun telling her to come over, she put her phone away. Withdrawing her weapon, she said, "This isn’t over yet."
Yu Wen withdrew his gun as well but he didn’t say anything. Neither of them was ever going to pull the trigger, well, not here at least. Yan Jia walked into the private lounge and found Yu Xuan wailing while Li Jun packed away some chips. The young lady with her skirt riding up her thighs, almost exposing her cooter cat to the world, was clinging to Li Jun and the man didn’t seem to mind.
"Your highness," she said and Li Jun, with a beaming smile, handed her the chips.
He said, "Here, go buy yourself something pretty."
Yan Jia chuckled and said, "Thank you, your highness but I prefer buying a Solaris Reaper." She was talking about a top-tier plasma gun, infamous for its raw destructive power and precision. She could use it to cripple the man behind her.
Li Jun let out a sly, half-suppressed smile and said, "Then this won’t be enough. Let me beat him two more rounds and I will be able to afford it."
Yu Xuan, "..."
"Jun-ge, do you just see me as a fucking walking ATM?" he complained. Just then, Yu Wen appeared from behind Yan Jia, and the entire atmosphere changed.
Li Jun, who was just joking around, now looked serious. Yu Xuan, like a chihuahua off its leash, instantly started growling. Unfortunately, he was growling at a Tibetan mastiff. He wasn’t intimidating at all.
Packing away the deck of cards, Li Jun asked, "What are you doing here?"
Yu Wen clenched his fist, looking at the woman’s long, slender leg over Li Jun’s. He felt something heavy on his chest like someone was pressing down on it. He suddenly blurted out, "Let’s play a round."
Li Jun looked at him, wondering if he was serious. When he saw he wasn’t letting up, he sneered and said, "Fine." It seemed he wouldn’t be able to shake this man off so easily.
