Chapter 138: Seed sprouting

While the pair were exploring each other in ways others couldn’t see, Li Yu was on her way back to the Imperial Palace. Yu Wen did as promised. He sent her with a military escort, not for her safety, but to ensure she had boarded her spacecraft and left Elora. The entire way, she was holding in her anger.

She was starting to think that she had to deal with her mother. She couldn’t keep getting held back by her. The seed had long been planted, and now it was sprouting. In history, there were plenty of heirs that forced the Imperial Kings and Queens to abdicate. Her own father used that method, so why couldn’t she?

Li Yu wasn’t just thinking out of anger. She had plenty of officials in her ear telling her that she could take that position. Her mother was getting by in her years. She didn’t have to kill her. She just had to make sure she was too ill to rule. At first, she was hesitant, but after her mother treated her that way, she was thinking it might actually be a good idea.

With her as the Imperial Queen, would Yu Wen dare refuse to marry her? She would force his hand if she had to. The more she thought about it, the more she thought this was a good plan.

Just then, her phone rang. A floating screen displaying her mother’s number jumped up in front of her. She bit her lip, hesitating to answer, but even she knew that it wasn’t a good idea to ignore her.

When she picked up the video call, she was met by her mother’s livid expression. Li Yu called out, "Mother." In a place Xiu Ying couldn’t see, Li Yu’s fist was clenched. She lowered her head, seeming remorseful, but her eyes shone with resentment.

Seeing her like this, Xiu Ying was exasperated. She sighed and said, "Li Yu, why can’t you just let this go, huh? There are plenty of men out there who worship the ground you walk on. Just pick any of them, and they can make you happy, I promise you."

Li Yu bit her lower lip, her eyes watery. The resentment in her eyes vanished, and she looked so pitiful. She showed her mother the same face when she needed something from her. She shed a single tear and, with a sniffle, she said, "But mother, you did whatever it took to be with dad. Why can’t I do the same?"

From what she had heard, her mother was the very example of how to climb up a ladder. She did whatever it took to get to marry Li Mingze and have her, so why couldn’t her mother help her achieve her dream as Xiu Ying achieved hers?

Xiu Ying gritted her teeth. She didn’t want to aggravate her as she still needed her to answer a few questions. She forcibly restrained her irritation and said, "But your father wasn’t obsessed with another man. It made things easy for me. Unlike you, how are you supposed to force a man who can’t get it up for you into marriage? Doesn’t that sound miserable?"

Her words were rational, but they went through one ear and out the next for Li Yu. She was already thinking of several methods. Imprison him. Drug him. Whatever it took, she would do it. And when she finally had him, she would kill that slut. No, not just kill but skin him alive.

She was plotting all of this in her mind, but her expression remained sad and pitiable. "But mother, he is dead. That bitch is long dead so-."

Xiu Ying abruptly cut her off, saying, "He might be long dead, but I am sure there are others who could satisfy his cravings, right?" She was deliberate with her line of questioning. She didn’t want her daughter to know that Li Jun was still alive. It was best she didn’t know such matters.

From Li Yu’s reaction, she was right. There was someone beside Yu Wen that he was rolling in between the sheets with. This was out of character for someone like him. That had to be Li Jun. "Who is it?" she asked, filled with impatience.

Li Yu gritted her teeth and said, "I will only tell you if you promise you will help me."

Xiu Ying sneered internally. This kid dared to bargain with her. Did she think she was in any position of power? "Li Yu," she said, her voice stern.

Li Yu gritted her teeth and reluctantly said, "It’s this man called Zi Rui. I even caught them in bed together... Mother, you have to avenge me. He shot at me and almost killed me."

Hearing this, Xiu Ying felt a wave of excitement surge inside of her. This was perfect. She not only knew Li Jun’s new identity, but she also had cause to bring him in. "I will. Do you have a picture of him?"

Li Yu seemed delighted when she heard her say that. Of course, she had pictures. How else would she exact her revenge when she didn’t have pictures of him? She wanted to dig up his identity. Not only that, she wanted to ruin his family and his friends. She wanted him to crawl at her feet and beg for mercy.

She sent them to her mother, and Xiu Ying said, "I will issue a warrant of arrest, but we have to move in silence otherwise, Yu Wen would protect him. Do you understand?"

Li Yu nodded her head, and for once she showed her mother a genuine smile. She said, "Mother, you are the best. When he arrives at the imperial palace, I want to punish him myself."

Xiu Ying agreed, but it was only for show. She was just trying to appease her. As to what would happen when Li Jun was in her hands, she was yet to decide. She had noticed how the system had suddenly disappeared the moment it thought Li Jun was dead.

It was obviously directed by self-interest. It abandoned her the second it thought its mission was accomplished. But when it realized that wasn’t the case, it came crawling back.
