Chapter 215: Sweet, Sweet Revenge
He sat there in the darkness for more than an hour by his count.
Yeren began to grow restless.
Was she ever going to come back? What if something had happened to her? What if the the Rogues had ambushed her like he had feared?
Not long after, her heard the sound of neighing horses.
The rain was still pouring very hard without. And he liked the rain.
He went to her window and peered out. He spotted one of his guards carrying the little girl into the house in his arms.
From what he could see, she didn’t appear to be harmed - which was a good thing.
Then Claire slid out as well and ran to the shelter provided by the front entrance.
But from the way her hair looked very dark in colour, he could tell it was wet.
He slipped away from the window lest he be seen and returned to his perch on her bed.
He could hear her movements below perfectly. She was ascending the stairway.
Then before he knew it, she was standing before the door.
He heard her sharp intake of breath before she turned the knob. He held his own breath and waited for her to see him.
Instead, she stepped into the room, closed the door and leaned against it.
He heard her rasped breathing and his eyes narrowed.
Then he felt her gaze on him. He didn’t need to see her face to know that she was looking at him. He just... felt it.
As if pulled by some strange force, he slid off the bed with a slight creak and walked towards her.
Lightning struck, illuminating the room for an instant. He saw the terror and shock in her eyes, her wet and matted hair, her dress that clung to her frame.
But more than that, he could smell the scent of someone else on her.
His jaw tensed. Even his Lycan, who had been silent for weeks, stirred within him.
"Your Grace." She mumbled, sounding terrified out of her wit.
Did she think he was something out of a nightmare, or that he wanted to harm her?
Weren’t they passed that?
His Lycan began to stir even more, becoming nearly as restless as he was.
She began to back away in an attempt to create space between them. But as she took a step backward, he took one forward. Until she bumped against the wall.
Seeing that she had nowhere else to go, he took the last step and closed the distance between them.
She shivered, but not from the cold.
He placed both his hands on the wall beside her head to keep any thoughts of fleeing far from her.
"You went to see him, did you not?" He broke the spell of silence that had been humming over the two of them.
Then he heard her gulp. Once, then again.
"See who?"
Now that he was closer, he knew exactly whose scent it was.
It had to belong to the peasant boy. He never forgot a scent, especially when it came to her.
Who was she trying to fool by playing the fool’s game?
"Did you not?"
He lowered his head until his breath fanned her face as he spoke.
Her head tilted up to his but he had no intention of kissing her... not yet.
He was going to make her regret being in the arms of another man.
Didn’t she realize what it did to him?
If it were that easy, he would have just picked up any shapely woman on the roadside and had his way with her.
But he did not.
He let his head drop lower until he reached the crook of her neck. Her scent was very strong there... lavender and something that uniquely belonged to her.
She held her breath as he pressed his lips to the spot that joined her neck to her shoulder.
Then a sigh escaped her parted lips.
"What are you doing here?" She finally seemed to have found her voice.
He heard the question in her question. What she really wanted to ask was if he had come to see her, he knew. But he hadn’t.
And there was no point in giving her the benefit of a response.
So he let the question hang in the air between them as his lips trailed lower.
His Lycan was eager to emerge and claim her, to mark her.
But he couldn’t.
It was too dangerous to be reckless at this time, he thought.
Her hand, which had been fidgeting restlessly at her sides, finally clawed their way through his hair.
When he reached the spot just above her breasts, he bit down hard on the wet skin.
She stiffened but didn’t pull away.
Then he licked away the blood that flowed out with his tongue.
There.
Now the trespassing idiot would know to stay away if he had even a thread of common sense left in that head of his.
Then he raised his head and looked into her face.
He could tell that her eyes were closed even in the dark. "Turn around."
Her eyes fluttered open at his words.
"What?"
But he was in no mood to repeat himself.
Slowly, she turned around and faced the wall.
He could smell the scent of rain that lingered in her skin like a second breath. She must have been drenched for a long time.
Then he held the edges of her dress in preparation to rip it into two.
But he thought better of doing that - she had a limited number of dresses.
Instead, he lifted the hem of the dress and slipped his hand underneath.
Yeren only encountered moist and damp clothing until he reached his goal.
A raw gasp tore from her throat as he slipped two of his fingers inside her. She parted her legs just an inch, but it was enough for him.
He felt himself grow as hard as steel behind her. But this night wasn’t about him.
It was about teaching her a lesson she would never forget.
He added a third finger and drove it deeper.
She quickly covered her mouth to stifle her moan.
She was wet and moist there just as he had anticipated.
But was it for him or for the peasant boy?
A cold smirk curved his lips and he withdrew his fingers immediately.
She whimpered as if she were in pain.
Then, as quietly as he had slipped in, he slipped out of the room.
