Chapter 229: Chapter 115: The Defeated [Lord of War]

On the smoke-filled battlefield of the Spirit Realm.

The stalemate between the two sides had already lasted for over two days.

Unlike when they were stationed at the Steam Ceremony Tower, where they could at least get some rest.

The battle inside this small Spirit Realm fortress was simply relentless.

It was a ceaseless cycle of casting spells.

While casting, they also had to constantly drink potions to replenish their energy.

Fortunately, Zorn had already informed everyone that this would be a war of endurance, lasting for at least several days.

Everyone had brought a considerable amount of restorative supplies.

Even so, the defenders were all suffering from immense exhaustion.

A few Level Six Transcendents had even completely exhausted their Spiritual Energy, their forms in the Spirit Realm growing withered and hazy.

Fortunately, Zorn and the Nightmare Angel, two top-tier powerhouses, were keeping watch over the group.

With the two of them alternating on defense,

and with the support of the others, they were able to hold the entire Spirit Realm fortress.

They were just barely holding on.

Everyone was gritting their teeth, desperately resisting the Lord of War’s onslaught.

"Zorn, how much longer do we need to hold on?"

As Zorn took his turn on defense,

the Nightmare Angel, Noctifanel, whose voice had previously been calm and natural, now sounded somewhat hoarse.

Her Spirit Body was also showing signs of Spiritual Energy depletion, though it wasn’t severe.

Zorn glanced at the War Spirit Realm, calculating for a moment before replying.

"We’ve killed the Lord of War, Joe Moriff, over a hundred times now."

"But he’s never tried to escape. Instead, he’s determined to fight us to the bitter end."

"Clearly, the flames of war have completely burned away his reason."

"This war has shackled him, locking down the traits of his War Sequence."

"As long as we don’t stop, he’ll keep fighting, over and over, until he’s so weak he completely collapses."

"An opportunity like this is incredibly rare. You should be able to sense it, too. It’s not just the Upper Rank Powerhouses on our side who are silently observing this battle."

"The Upper Rank Powerhouses of Saintisman are watching this battle as well."

"I imagine the powerhouses of Saintisman have already tried to reason with the Lord of War, Joe Moriff."

"But at this point, the Lord of War, Joe Moriff, is likely beyond listening to anyone."

"So... how much longer we fight isn’t up to us. We have to keep fighting until the Lord of War, Joe Moriff, is completely crippled."

Zorn, who knew the traits of the Lord of War, Joe Moriff, well, understood just how rare this opportunity was.

After this war, trying to shackle him with war itself again would be far too difficult.

A legendary feat would be accomplished today.

This battle would be Joe Moriff’s Waterloo.

Her Spiritual Vision swept intently over the amalgam of Fighting Master and Evil Spirit before her.

Noctifanel sensed a subtle, yet undeniable, threat.

This was true even though her own Sequence was incredibly powerful.

They were both Level 7.

This Evil Spirit, Zorn, was even stronger than her.

’A fearsome man!’

’The rumors from across the seas are true, after all!’

She then gave a solemn nod.

"Alright. Then we’ll keep fighting. We’ll fight until the Lord of War, Joe Moriff, is utterly broken."

Her Spiritual Vision swept over Zorn once more.

Her Spirit Body was already somewhat depleted.

But his Spirit Body remained full.

’Not only is he powerful, but his reserves are astonishingly deep.’

As Zorn cast his spells, one Destruction Magic Ball after another flew out, unleashing a wide-area bombardment.

At the same time, his Elemental Arms spread out, striking at the heavily armored Knights. 𝕗𝕣𝐞𝐞𝘄𝐞𝚋𝚗𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗹.𝚌𝕠𝚖

Although their side had suffered heavy attrition,

so had the Lord of War, Joe Moriff.

This was evident from the declining strength of the war-constructs he continuously summoned.

"How many times have we killed him now?"

Zorn looked over at Isaac.

"136 times."

Isaac gave a precise number.

He had gained an immense amount from this slaughter.

"What’s the feedback from the kills now?"

Isaac thought for a moment before replying.

"It’s easy to kill him. I think he dropped below the Middle Rank Level several hours ago."

Zorn let out a small smile at his words.

"Excellent! Keep it up!"

...

The War Spirit Realm was filled with the flames of war and apocalyptic smoke.

The newly resurrected Lord of War, Joe Moriff,

dragged his bloated body, squirming as he coiled his way to the top of a towering stone statue.

Now in a state of severe mutation, Joe Moriff resembled a colossal worm of war-flesh. His dark, twisted gaze swept, cold and crazed, across the entire Spirit Realm.

He whispered and muttered to himself.

’The War Insect Nest can still hold on.’

’There are still some Energy reserves within the Spirit Realm. They’re about to break. Only two powerful ones are left casting spells to fight back.’

’The others’ attacks have almost no destructive power left.’

Suddenly, his massive body was wracked with violent spasms and convulsions.

POP! POP!

Two spots on his back suddenly burst open. Acrid smoke billowed out, followed by eerie black flames that surged up, burning his decaying flesh.

He swatted at the flames with an appendage that was neither arm nor tentacle.

"Shut up... shut up... All of you, shut up!"
