Chapter 1729: Chapter 1729: Nowhere Left to Cry

"No, no, you take a break!"

"Hurry, hurry, hurry, put down your little shovel!"

"If we really dig up something we can’t handle, the whole lot of us will just be delivering ourselves up as cannon fodder from miles away. Let’s not."

"Hurry up and put away your little shovel, you’re about to play it to death!"

"Stuff like this, if the higher-ups didn’t tell us to do it, we’d better not do extra. Don’t go burying your own little lives for nothing."

"My relative said my face is the kind that dies young. Tch, I’d better not get involved in this, I still wanna live a few more decades."

"Your relative got a grudge against you or what?"

"Oh, kind of. Back when housing prices shot up, he wanted to borrow money from my family to buy an apartment. My dad was already about to lend it, but then I said I was getting married, so my dad turned around and bought me a place instead. He didn’t get the loan, didn’t buy the place, and he’s hated my guts ever since."

"Pfft, how come I never heard you were getting married?"

"When I was young I chased a girl. Thought we could make it all the way to the altar. I bought the apartment, bought the car, bought the diamond ring. Unfortunately the proposal flopped. She didn’t want to cry on the back seat of my bicycle; she wanted to cry in a BMW."

"The car you bought was a bicycle?"

"No, it was an Audi. I just hadn’t picked it up yet. She was already crying in some other guy’s BMW."

"Dude, that’s rough."

Little Taotie blinked her big eyes and listened from the side. Hua Jinyan pressed his lips together, frowning.

Lou Lan slapped her hands over Little Taotie’s ears and roared, "All of you, shut up!"

The few idiots who’d been bullshitting around instantly shut their mouths. Only then did they remember there was a minor in the Special Department—this wasn’t the good old days when they could just run their mouths however they wanted.

The bunch of them slunk off, heading for the smoking room to shoot the breeze and talk nonsense.

Little Taotie started toddling her short legs, wanting to follow.

Lou Lan: "..."

Lou Lan grabbed her in one go. "Where are you going?"

Little Taotie pointed at the people walking off in the distance. "I’m going to eat melons."

Lou Lan: "...You’re not going to eat melons, you’re going to inhale secondhand smoke."

Little Taotie blinked. "I’ll wear a mask."

"Useless." Lou Lan refused to let go and said helplessly, "You’re so young, why are you this nosy?"

Little Taotie blinked. "I just want to ask whether she ended up marrying the BMW driver."

"Pfft!" Yuanyuan burst out laughing. "I know what happened after. I’ll tell you."

Lou Lan shot her a glare.

Yuanyuan shrugged and started on a bag of chips. "If a kid’s curiosity isn’t satisfied, she won’t be able to sleep."

Little Taotie cooperated by nodding. "Yeah, yeah, yeah, I won’t be able to sleep. I’ll stay up three days and three nights."

Lou Lan: "...You!"

Lou Lan glared at Yuanyuan. "Watch your wording."

Yuanyuan finished her chips, tore open a bag of corn crisps, and said while eating, "That BMW driver was a total mama’s boy. He was happy enough to marry that girl who wanted to cry in a BMW, but his mom wouldn’t have it. She had already picked out a marriage alliance partner for him. He had no ability to earn his own money—his food and drink all came from sticking his hand out to his family—so he caved pretty fast and married the woman his mom chose."

Little Taotie blinked. "Then what happened to the girl who wanted to cry in the BMW?"

"She wanted to go back and cry on the bicycle, but found the bicycle had been upgraded to an Audi, so she wanted even more to go cry in the Audi. Unfortunately, our colleague here is not the type of good horse that eats back the grass it’s already trodden. He didn’t forgive her."

"So she doesn’t even have the bicycle anymore?" Little Taotie sighed like a tiny adult. "Then she’s got nowhere to cry from now on."
