Chapter 87: 87. Lin Zhaoyue took the front. [3]

"Young Miss! You’re a genius!"

"Young Miss, do you know that not even your father reached your realm at your age?"

Su Qinglan’s voice became increasingly animated.

"With your talent, you absolutely must join the Mystic Sky Sect!"

She clasped her hands together excitedly.

"Young Miss! You have no idea how monstrous your talent is!"

"You’ll definitely become one of the strongest cultivators in the kingdom!"

"Young Miss!"

"Young miss!"

The entire journey back to the Lin family estate was filled with nothing but Su Qinglan’s endless stream of praise.

Lin Zhaoyue could only smile awkwardly while quietly enduring it.

Fortunately, before her ears could suffer any further, the familiar gates of the Lin family estate finally came into view.

The moment they stepped through the entrance, Lin Zhaoyue turned toward Su Qinglan with a polite smile.

"Bye, Elder Su, I need to go somewhere."

Before Su Qinglan could say another word, Lin Zhaoyue turned around and immediately ran deeper into the estate.

She headed straight toward Lin Xuan’s courtyard.

As soon as Lin Zhaoyue arrived at Lin Xuan’s courtyard, she did not waste a single moment.

She walked straight toward the cabinet her father had mentioned.

After unlocking it, she carefully retrieved the family seal.

This seal represented the Patriarch’s authority and with it, she could issue orders throughout the Lin family without anyone questioning their legitimacy.

She carefully stored it inside her spatial ring before nodding to herself.

"Now that I’ve got it, I should at least check where they’ve disposed of the body."

Without lingering any longer, Lin Zhaoyue left the courtyard and headed back toward the main estate.

Before long, she encountered a pair of guards patrolling the grounds.

The two guards immediately stopped and respectfully cupped their fists.

"Greetings, Young Miss."

Lin Zhaoyue returned their greeting with a gentle nod.

"Hello. I’d like to ask you something. Do you know where the messenger from the Shangguan family is?"

The two guards exchanged a brief glance.

One of them nodded.

"Yes, Young Miss. The messenger hasn’t left the reception room yet."

Lin Zhaoyue paused.

"Did you guys checked?"

The guard scratched the back of his head awkwardly.

"Well... Patriarch gave an order not to let anyone enter the reception hall without his permission."

He smiled apologetically.

"So we can’t, and young miss, if you wish to go inside, it would be best to speak with Patriarch first."

His tone remained respectful throughout.

After all, everyone in the Lin family knew how much the Patriarch cherished his daughter, so neither guard wished to offend her.

"Got it."

Lin Zhaoyue gave the two guards a small nod before turning around.

If the messenger had not left the reception hall then the body had to still be inside.

As she ran, countless thoughts surfaced within her mind.

What did Father mean by this?

Why didn’t he mention the body in his message?

Was there something he wanted me to discover on my own?

The more she thought about it, the more convinced she became that there was a reason.

Her father was not someone who overlooked details.

If he had left the body untouched, then it was almost certainly intentional.

Not long afterward, Lin Zhaoyue arrived outside the reception hall.

Two guards stood before the entrance with solemn expressions, carefully watching the surroundings to ensure nobody approached.

The moment they noticed Lin Zhaoyue, both men respectfully cupped their fists.

"Greetings, Young Miss."

Lin Zhaoyue returned the greeting before retrieving the family seal from her spatial ring.

The heavy seal glinted faintly beneath the sunlight.

She raised it for both guards to see.

"Father sent me, move aside and let me enter."

The two guards instinctively looked at one another before lowering their gazes to the seal.

A trace of hesitation appeared on their faces.

After a brief silence, one of them bowed apologetically.

"I’m truly sorry, Young Miss. Those were the Patriarch’s personal orders, we cannot allow anyone to enter."

The other guard also lowered his head.

"Please forgive us."

Lin Zhaoyue frowned slightly.

She raised the family seal a little higher.

"You both recognize this seal, don’t you?"

She lightly pointed toward it.

"Father cannot come here himself right now, which is precisely why he entrusted this seal to me. The family rules are very clear.

The holder of the Patriarch’s seal possesses the Patriarch’s authority."

The two guards fell silent once more and exchanged uncertain glances.

After several moments of hesitation, both men finally stepped aside.

"Please forgive us, Young Miss."

Lin Zhaoyue smiled gently.

"It’s fine, you two were simply carrying out your duties."

With those words, she walked past them and entered the reception hall.

The heavy doors slowly swung shut behind her.

The two guards remained standing outside, staring at the tightly closed entrance.

One of them forced a bitter smile.

"I really hope we didn’t make the wrong decision. If we did... We’ll just have to accept whatever punishment the Patriarch gives us."

The other guard sighed and nodded.

"Let’s just hope this wasn’t another one of those times."

He scratched the back of his head helplessly.

After all, the young miss was notorious for stealing the family seal and doing as she pleases.

The reception hall was deathly silent.

Lin Zhaoyue slowly stepped inside, and before long, she found the corpse lying in the middle of the hall.

The messenger’s head had been cleanly severed from his body.

Dark crimson blood had long since spread across the floor before gradually drying into a dull stain.

She merely gave the corpse a brief glance.

There was no surprise in her eyes, her father had already told her that he had killed the messenger.

This scene only confirmed his words.

Just as she wondered what might be the purpose of all this, she noticed the scroll by the side of the body.

She immediately walked over and picked it up and brushed away the dust before staring at it thoughtfully.

"Is this what Father wanted me to find?"

Without another moment of hesitation, she slowly unfurled the scroll.

Her calm eyes began moving across its contents, carefully reading every single word.
