Chapter 883: Chapter 853
"Hello, you must be the university student from the Capital City! I’m delivering your meal tonight."
Qiao Qiqi opened the door, and the woman walked in, placing the steamed buns and vegetables on the table.
Shui Qingcheng came out, and upon seeing the meal on the table, she got angry and demanded, "What kind of stuff did you bring us? Are you feeding pigs? I’m not eating this; go and bring me something else!"
The woman was startled by her, looking at her nervously, somewhat dazed, because Shui Qingcheng was very beautiful, with fair skin and pretty features, but her temper was surprisingly big.
Qiao Qiqi came over and said, "Thank you for bringing the meal. You can go back now; this is good enough."
"Oh, okay." The woman nodded and turned to leave.
"Qiao Qiqi, even dogs wouldn’t eat this stuff. If you want to eat it, go ahead; I’m not eating!" Shui Qingcheng was full of anger and yelled at Qiao Qiqi.
"If you don’t want to eat, then go back to your room. If you dare to speak so recklessly again, be careful or I’ll poison you mute!" Qiao Qiqi’s voice wasn’t loud nor fierce, but it felt like she hit Shui Qingcheng’s pressure point, causing her to shiver in fear.
She really didn’t dare to speak anymore and turned back to her room.
Once inside, she started crying, burying her face in the little blanket she brought with her. Why was she so unlucky? Qiao Qiqi was indeed her nemesis; nothing good ever came from being associated with her.
Qiao Qiqi sat down, took out her chopsticks, and prepared to eat. Although the meal delivered was simple, it was evident that thought had gone into it: a stir-fried eggplant and a scrambled egg dish.
While Qiao Qiqi was eating, a little head peeked through the door crack, curiously watching her.
Seeing the little girl, Qiao Qiqi put down her chopsticks and gestured for her to come over. The little girl shyly walked in, approached the table, and asked softly, "Sister, are you a fairy? You look so pretty."
"No, sister isn’t a fairy. Sister is a doctor, here to treat the sick people in your family." Qiao Qiqi said with a smile.
The little girl nodded, looking at the food on the table, swallowing hard, and Qiao Qiqi said, "Sister can’t finish this either. Why don’t you eat with me so it doesn’t go to waste?"
"Alright, I’ll eat with you then, so it won’t be wasted." The little girl climbed onto the chair and picked up the chopsticks to start eating.
Qiao Qiqi continued to eat, noticing the little girl’s shabby clothes.
"How old are you?" Qiao Qiqi asked, taking the opportunity to inquire more about the village.
"I’m six years old, my name is An’an." An’an replied eagerly, seeming to be an energetic little girl.
"Are you in school?"
"Not in school; there are no teachers, so none of the children go to school."
Qiao Qiqi, "..."
She knew the place was poor, but didn’t expect it to be so destitute that even children couldn’t attend school.
"Do you want to go to school?"
"I do, but no teachers are willing to stay and teach." An’an responded like a little adult, starting to speak at length. It’s said that poor children are more mature, and An’an understood much more than children of the same age in the big city.
The two chatted as they ate, and Qiao Qiqi was surprised that the little girl could eat more than she could; she ate two out of four steamed buns. To avoid her eating too much, Qiao Qiqi didn’t let her eat the third one...
After An’an left, Qiao Qiqi finally returned to her room to wash up, only to find there was no tap water... She had to heat the water herself.
