Chapter 494: Chapter 494: Unmatched by Anyone (5)_1

"I don’t even know where she found that toy this morning, she was so into playing with it," said the Ruanlin family matriarch.

"My toy!" Ruan Jiaojiao screamed.

Startled, the jumping toy lost its balance in mid-air and tumbled to the ground with a "bang," followed by the toy plummeting down after it.

"Crash." The already battered handheld game console shattered into pieces, and small circular parts rolled out from within, wobbling until they stopped at Ruan Jiaojiao’s feet.

Ruan Jiaojiao stared at the broken game console on the floor with heartfelt dismay, her tiny eyebrows quivering with frustration.

Feeling that her mood was off, and although unsure of what it had done wrong, the pet sheepishly curled its big tail, retreating backward, its ears instinctively pinned back, ready to run.

"Bad dog! I hadn’t finished playing with that yet, how could you break it!" Ruan Jiaojiao yelled in anger, rushing over to grab the ears of the pet that was about to pull back.

"Woof woof!" Upon hearing her words, the pet immediately began to whine pitifully.

Was this not for practicing its jumping and hunting skills?

Wolf Eye unconsciously glanced over at Xiu Xi, who was watering the vegetable garden.

Xiu Xi held a bucket in one hand and a ladle in the other, watering the radish seedlings that Ruan Jie had planted that morning. Feeling someone’s gaze on him, he stiffened involuntarily, his ear tips trembling slightly, reddening if one looked closely.

"Why are you so naughty! If you play with my toys without my permission again, I will never speak to you!" Ruan Jiaojiao didn’t notice that the pet’s eyes had drifted elsewhere and continued to scold, still holding its ear indignantly.

She had just received that toy yesterday, and it seemed expensive. Having only played with it once before it broke, Ruan Jiaojiao was truly heartbroken, so upset that she twisted the pet’s ear.

The pet lay on the ground, not daring to dodge, only able to howl miserably.

"Woof woof..."

"Hmph!" Ruan Jiaojiao gave its big head a final pat and declared angrily, "You are not getting any food today!" 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂

"Woof!" The howling became almost earth-shattering.

Was there no justice for a wolf anymore? Why blame it? Wasn’t it supposed to practice? Why blame it?

Of course, its howling was futile. Ruan Jiaojiao didn’t understand a word and had already left huffily to wash up, even instructing the Ruanlin family matriarch and Shu Jiao not to give it any breakfast.

In the vegetable garden, Xiu Xi, who stayed silent throughout, finally started to relax his rigid back, his reddened ear tips slowly returning to normal as he continued watering the seedlings methodically.

During breakfast, the pet really didn’t get any food and looked utterly dejected around the dining table. If it weren’t so timid, it would’ve pointed a claw at the real culprit.

"Where’s Xiaobai?" Ruan Jie wondered, having been looking for it since he came downstairs.

"Probably out eating; it left as soon as I opened the door this morning," replied the Ruanlin family matriarch.

After breakfast, sweating from a trip to the market, Ruan Jie returned home and Shu Jiao quickly handed him a towel soaked in well water, cool and refreshing: "How’s business now?"

"Not so great." Ruan Jie muffled his face with the towel, sighing with relief at the cold sensation and then turned to smile at Shu Jiao: "My wife is so good."
