Chapter 1967: Going Feral to Satisfy the Rage

Mayla saw the horror on Farhan’s face.

She followed his gaze only to see everyone was sprawled on the ground in a horrendous state.

It was not her first time being in a dire situation. Each gold-star mission that was assigned to their group had been horrendous, forcing them to use everything they had to achieve the mission’s goals. Rescuing a high-profile figure from an army. Assassinating a person who was feared by many. Even poisoning a Demigod who was leagues above their power level.

Despite those extremely hard missions, the group survived. Thrived.

Becoming stronger and more experienced.

Of course—there were times when they were in helpless situations. Thought that they were going to die. Hard times with no light at the end of the tunnel—but none have ever been like this. It’s way different against Rex.

Normally, High Millinar Lagneas wouldn’t provide any kind of help—this time, he did.

Normally, the goals were fixed—this time, they were flexible.

Normally, against an opponent that was too strong, the group would rethink their approach. It was the best method to guarantee the mission’s success and minimize casualties. But Rex did not seem to be an overwhelming target.

He sat on the edge of being almost too strong for the group to deal with, and that was worse.

It gave the group a sense of hope that they could win if they tried hard enough.

But Rex’s growth in strength from the pain and anger gradually crept his power level beyond the edge of being too strong. Before the group realized that there was no chance for them to defeat Rex, it was already too late.

Mayla screamed at the top of her lungs at the sight of the others.

Her raw scream echoed across the pocket dimension.

"Relax." Rex picked his ears as her scream was louder in his ears. "They’re not dead yet."

Realizing that things had escalated past their control, Farhan blinked his eyes and immediately moved—carrying Mayla by her waist and then channeled the innate law of the pocket dimension with a forceful wave of his other hand.

Across the plain, crimson flowers began to emerge from the ground—thousands of them.

A flower for every inch of the plain.

Even the space around Rex’s feet was crowded by crimson flowers.

Before he could react, the petals from the flowers detached themselves and then flared up as if the wind was blowing from underneath. Just a few seconds, and the entire pocket dimension was blotted by tens of thousands of crimson petals.

It didn’t have any effect other than blotting Rex’s vision.

"Trying to run away?" Rex’s lips curled into a grin. "I won’t let that happen."

On the other hand—Farhan dashed straight to where the others were. He summoned a few Ice Knights again using the Law of Eternal Ice and had them grab the others. Multiple fights broke out as the phantom wolves tried to stop the Ice Knights.

Farhan channeled the Innate Law of Crimson Flower Plain Dimension again.

Crimson petals burst from underneath them—and sent them skyward, giving enough time for the Ice Knights to grab the others. "Mayla, snap out of it!" Farhan roared—trying to break her from her trance. "The powder! It’s with you, right?!"

Mayla looked up at him in a daze and then finally blinked.

"Y-Yes!" She replied stutteringly.

Her ring glowed, and then a big, round vial materialized in her hand. It was filled with white powder to the brim. She wasted no time and threw it straight at the border of the pocket dimension—and when it shattered, the barrier rippled and turned white.

During an emergency, they could flee the pocket dimension using this white powder.

Leaving the pocket dimension is easy for them—as they all have the Innate Law of the Crimson Flower Plain Dimension—but it would take time. On the contrary, with this white powder, they would enter the fast track straight back home with a subtle additional layer of protection.

Initially, they were thinking of using it when people from Larta City tried to intercept them.

After all, the white powder is precious, and they would rather not use it.

But Farhan decided to have Mayla use that, as the situation had turned for the worse.

It took only a few seconds for Farhan—along with the other Ice Knights to arrive at the other end of the pocket dimension. Since the crimson petals were blotting the entire pocket dimension, there should be no chance for Rex to intercept them.

Decisively, Farhan lunged toward the white ripple on the barrier.

His body phased through it and turned white as the white powder began to cling to him.

And it was the same thing for the Ice Knights.

But at the same time, there was a sudden pull on his leg that stopped him dead in his tracks.

Farhan looked down, and his breath was caught in his throat.

A translucent, dimensional chain was wrapping around his ankle. He looked around—and saw that the Ice Knights were also in the same peril. ’No, no, no.... How can this happen? It’s almost like he’s always one step ahead of me!’

"Damar!" Farhan looked at another Awakened Demigod. "Break the chains! You can do it!"

"I... I can’t," Damar said helplessly. "His energy ransacked my inner flow."

"Farhan, do something!"

"I don’t want to die! Not when we’re this close to becoming a Millinar. Do something, please!"

Farhan’s heart was broken as his comrades were begging him to do something.

But he was out of ideas right now.

Nothing he had could break these chains—and freed them from the clutch of the monster that they were trying to assassinate. Memories flashed inside Farhan’s mind. Just earlier, before departing to complete this gold-star mission, he was debating whether they should stalk or kill the target.

Most of them voted to kill the target to commemorate their last gold-star mission.

Farhan wanted nothing more than to complete his mission, so he only wanted to stalk the target.

But he was persuaded by the others to kill the target instead.

Now, he regretted that decision.

Had he stayed firm on his decision, then things wouldn’t have ended up this way

Out of nowhere, the chains around Farhan’s ankle snapped taut with brutal force, yanking him from the fog of his memories. He blinked hard and looked down, and there was Rex—reeling him in along with the other Ice Knights with a sadistic smile that stretched wide with unhurried delight.

Enjoying every second of this.

Reeling them in as if he were a fisherman pulling in the net to count his haul.

He knew that eventually Farhan and the other Awakened Demigods would attempt to escape.

Fortunately, he has the Latch of Chains skill—locking the pocket dimension.

Rex wrapped the chains around his arms and pulled even harder.

Despite the helplessness gripping him tight, Farhan gritted his teeth and let out a discharge of ice that turned instantly to cold mist, fighting the pull with everything he could. Mayla also helped, summoning a large statue that wrenched the chains wrapping around them and pulled.

Surprisingly enough, Rex was pulled.

His feet made two trenches as he skidded forward, losing in this tug of war.

But he was still smiling—and his crimson eyes still gleamed with the same excited glint.

"That’s it!" Rex’s laughter tore through the air, raw—and wild, adrenaline flooding his veins. Prey that simply died was boring. A meal without flavour. But a little resistance? That was the seasoning. That’s exactly what made eating more invigorating. "Pour it all out! Every scrap of power you have! Struggle harder! Harder!"

Blitz—!

From above, a twin dragon-shaped lightning strike descended with the crack of thunder.

Each head bit into Rex’s shoulders and helped him pull—the Sky Imprisonment spell.

It was the perfect spell to help him pull as well as induce more pain into his body, making him even more feral. Then, the ground around him turned black as dozens of black lightning tentacles wrapped around his body and anchored him harder.

He cast another spell—the Black Field of Orko.

Now, Farhan and the others were stopped dead in their tracks again, unable to overpower Rex.

And with a twist of Rex’s hands, he infused lightning into the chains. Black currents travelled along the metal links; a living storm that leaped from coil to coil, electrocuting Farhan and the Ice Knights in the same merciless instant.

Their muscles seized. Their energy locked.

For one frozen second, they were stripped of their ability to resist.

And a second is all Rex needed to pull them back.

"Rrrggh!"

Swoosh—!

Rex made one last brutal yank, dragging the eight Awakened Demigods back into the pocket dimension.

He didn’t slam them to the ground.

Instead, he swung them in a wide, dizzying arc, letting the spinning motion scramble their senses before he released them. Farhan and the eight Awakened Demigods hit the ground like shattered boulders—tumbling, rolling, their bodies skidding across the dirt until momentum finally abandoned them.

Rex threw the chains aside, and then they disappeared again.

Both the twin dragon-shaped lightning strikes that sank their teeth into his shoulders, along with the black lightning tentacles dispersed, freeing him from the anchor before he walked. He walked through the rising crimson petals.

And when he was close enough, he used the innate law of the pocket dimension to clear the area.

None of the Awakened Demigods were conscious enough to resist his demands on the innate law, so all the rising crimson petals dispersed. Farhan coughed out blood—from pushing himself too much to use the Law of Eternal Ice.

He forced himself to raise his gaze and saw that a hand was already upon him.

Rex grabbed him by the face and infused black lightning into Farhan’s internal energy flow.

Along the way, he had concentrated every ounce of his arcane lightning mana into the outer layer of the lightning element, refining its nature to its absolute peak. When it finally punched into Farhan’s insides, it erupted—spreading through him in chaotic tendrils.

Zapping every nerve and every organ it could reach.

It was a constant, violent stream for five long seconds that made him foam at the mouth.

And by the end of the discharge, Farhan dropped to his knees—and realized he could not use his energy anymore. His internal energy flow was charred—and incapacitated to the point that he couldn’t even do something as basic as channeling his energy.

Rex reverted to his human form.

Savagely, he grabbed Farhan by his face and slammed him to the ground before mounting him.

Then, he began a complete and utter beatdown.

Bam—!

A punch crossed Farhan’s face and knocked a tooth out.

Crack—!

Another one landed on his nose and broke it.

Rex kept going.

Kept punching Farhan repeatedly without mercy, venting out all his anger like there was no tomorrow.

Just a minute in, Rex saw the mess he had created and gritted his teeth. He was still unsatisfied. He wanted to do more. Swiftly, he purchased an expensive healing vial from the Shop, summoned it—and shoved it into Farhan’s mouth.

He didn’t even open the lid, letting Farhan chew on glass.

Rapidly, Farhan’s face healed back to normal.

Rex smiled manically and continued the beatdown. Fearing that he would crush Farhan’s face too fast, he shifted from using his fists to using his forehead. He slammed his forehead into Farhan’s nose and caved his face in.

His nose and maxilla bone shattered from the headbutt.

Still not satisfied, Rex punched his thumbs into Farhan’s eye sockets and gouged out his eyeballs.

Farhan didn’t even scream; his entire body was numb.

And as Rex was about to claw Farhan’s face, peeling the skin, something grabbed his raised arm.

Rex snapped his gaze to the side and paused when he realized that it was Davina.

She looked at him with a calm gaze, which seemed infectious as it also made him calmer.

"Why don’t you stop there?" She asked. "We don’t want him dead yet."
