Chapter 2306: Unexpected decision
The news spread faster than the wind. Over one hundred Nascent Soul cultivators, all of different races, including orcs, beasts, monsters, elves, dwarves and more, joined together to ambush the Oolin who had the immortal heritage token.
The Oolin was killed after putting up a furious fight, and the token fell into the hands of an orc, which then attracted the joint attack of the remaining cultivators. Eventually, a massive brawl broke out, with a majority of the hundred cultivators dying. Only around twenty of them survived, all of them gravely wounded.
Who gained the token in the end was entirely unknown because the situation had become too chaotic to keep track of such things.
The fight in itself was major news, as well as the fact that no one knew who had the token anymore. Even greater, however, was the issue of the death of the Oolin.
Compared to everyone else, the Oolin was a relatively lowkey race. They offended no one, had no massive enmities, and often kept to themselves and focused on their own development.
The reason they could do all that, though, was because they were strong enough not to be offended. They were a Noble race, after all. They could not be compared to the vassal races.
The response was almost immediate.
The Oolin responded, and they didn’t care about who was ’technically’ responsible or not. What they carried out was an absolute massacre. A single Oolin can unleash an attack far above their cultivation realm, so when many of them attack together... it was the cultivation world’s equivalent of a nuclear bomb.
The entire alliance was mobilised, not to seek revenge, but to attempt to calm the Oolin down. There were even rumors that Immortals from the actual Greater World had been summoned. Yes, the very same Greater World from where the Upper Battlefield fell down.
What most did not know, though Lex could see plain as day, was that Immortals had already intervened, and had been beaten up thoroughly by the Oolin.
After all, the Oolin too had immortal seniors. If the others could send up word, why couldn’t the Oolin? For too long, everyone was used to bullying vassal races to the point where they forgot that there were repercussions for messing with someone with a genuine background.
Lex couldn’t help but feel somewhat curious, though. What was the big deal even if they found the heritage? Was an Immortal heritage really enough to entice other immortals? That should only be the case if it was related to a Celestial Immortal, right? But shouldn’t there be Celestial Immortals in the Greater World? Wouldn’t it be easier to just approach them?
There was a hint of a conspiracy in the air, and now it was becoming somewhat complex for Lex to discern the truth at a glance. He also didn’t want to exert his energy on these things, so he could only wait to see how everything was resolved.
Using the help of Lex’s technique, Pearl eventually found Karvev Sunborne, hidden in an extremely remote island, pretending to live as a homeless man and beggar. His concealment of his cultivation was perfect, to the point where Pearl doubted she had even found him.
In the end, she decided to trust Cliff. He had never led her wrong.
When Pearl approached Karev, the man assumed he had been found by his enemies. When she revealed her identity as his descendant, he didn’t believe her and tried to fight it out.
Unable to suppress the guilt, the tension, the anger, and the confusion in her heart, she decided to give this ancestor of hers a thorough beating.
Combined with River’s help, the two of them fought Karev, and discovered that it was actually a struggle to win. Unexpectedly, Karev was cultivating the True Path. Unlike the two of them, who had Lex’s help, Karev was a true prodigy, who had discovered things on his own.
It was only after they fought for a long time, and Karev found himself hurt but not seriously wounded, that he finally believed that these two meant him no harm. After all, they had the opportunity to harm him many times.
Then came the reunion - after relocating of course.
Then came the emotional reunion, where Pearl revealed all that she had suffered, the death of their relatives, and everything she had been through. Of course, she kept Cliff’s existence hidden because he had expressly forbidden her from revealing it.
That’s when Karev, tired, exhausted, revealed everything. The token he had received was not for one inheritance. Rather, for each cultivation realm, the token would take him to an inheritance spot and allow him to undertake a test to receive a certain inheritance. He had no idea what the upper limit of the inheritance was, but it had shown no indication of ending any time soon.
Moreover, the token was not restricted to one person. He could use it as many times as he wanted, and that’s what caused the issues. There were certain entities which wanted to monopolize such an immense opportunity, and so had been doing everything in their power to hunt him down.
Karev had been on the run for countless years, and was reaching the limit of what he could bear mentally. He was on the verge of burning out. Just as Pearl had lost family, Karev too had lost many loyal friends and supporters.
However, unlike Pearl, Karev did not harbor a deep resentment in his chest. Although he would not give up on retribution, Lex could see that his personality was still rooted in kindness, which is why he was progressing towards exhaustion and burn out instead of being consumed by anger and hatred.
Then, after the reunion, the three of them came to a conclusion that Lex, honestly, had not been expecting at all. Although Karev offered to take the two of them into the heritage sites as well to receive inheritances, the young couple did not value that too much. After all, they had Cliff.
They agreed, but decided to do it later. Instead, they decided to reopen the Guest House!
