Chapter 2293: And so it begins II
Despite the intensity of the ongoing war, morale was actually quite high among the Angels. This was something they had spent countless years preparing for, and had set up numerous contingencies and plans in motion long ago. From alliances, to blockages, to systematic corrosion of the Seraphim’s strength and influence, the Angels had been hard at work.
Of course, for all this they had paid a significant price. Many of their assets which were already well known had to be sacrificed so new ones could be nurtured in the dark.
Belle did not know all the details, nor was she in a position to ask. All she knew was that under the guise of Eden corp, the Angels had established their presence universe wide, and used the feedback and profit from that presence to strengthen their position within Eden.
Honestly, the amount of resources that they had invested in this single realm were so massive that if it had been any other realm, they would have already won the war.
But just because Eden was a Major realm that was also a Heaven, they faced endless obstacles. Since everyone knew that the Angels and Devils had the ambition to pursue the Nephilim project, everyone focused on suppressing the Angels because it was easier than suppressing the Devils.
"What’s the situation on the Eastern Battlefront?" Belle asked one of the soldiers she was familiar with as she walked into the armory to get fully suited. All the weapon and armor provided by Eden corp was highly sophisticated and utilized unique forging techniques that only Angels could use.
She did not need to put on the armor herself. Instead, it simply flew off the rack and began to wrap itself around her body. She grabbed four swords, two of which she would wield with her hand, and two of which she would wield with her spirit sense. It was the updated, orthodox fighting style of the Valkyries, and she had mastered it faster than even other Angels despite her obvious disadvantages.
"Eh, major, I don’t mean to be difficult, but the commander has forbidden you from returning to the battlefield until you’ve properly recovered. Have you been to the-"
Belle glared at him, and then revealed her left hand which bore no signs of injury whatsoever.
"Been to the hospital? I don’t need to, I’m all better. If you don’t want to tell me, I’ll find out on my own," she said and stormed out, leaving the soldier feeling nervous.
He wiped the sweat off his brow, and hoped he wouldn’t get into trouble. Although they had all been ordered to keep her on bedrest, they were also all afraid of her.
Belle made her way to the battlefield, ready to find her teacher and receive the next set of orders, when her thoughts were interrupted.
She was riding on a massive, white ship that was shaped similar to a sword made out of pure marble. Hundreds of similar ships flew in the sky, and they were standard use among the Angels during war time. They were sturdy, could travel through space, and even boasted attack and defensive capabilities.
Yet none of that mattered right now. She looked out of the window at the far off Easter Battlefront which seemed to show Angel superiority. What was once the site of an intense battle was now still, as a massive shadow covered up.
Up above, in the air, a single being floated in the sky right in front of the sunlight. It had entered through the realm boundary to appear in that spot, which meant that it had come from outside Eden. But that didn’t make sense since the realm was in lockdown, and people could only enter and exit at certain points.
Belle squinted her eyes as she tried to recognise the figure. It looked like... Belle wasn’t too sure, since she’d never personally seen one of the Sage races, but she felt like the figure looked a lot like a Laoer.
Laoer were the Sage race who had monopolised control over the concept of eternity, which meant that if anyone attempted to form a Dao with a concept that even remotely touched upon eternity, the Laoer race would annihilate them.
But that didn’t make sense. What would a Sage race member be doing here? They hardly ever emerged into the universe beyond their own realms.
Before she could think of her answer, her ship was hit by a shockwave that tore through its defenses and compromised its functions. Suddenly the ship started to fall, and as it did, all Belle could see were countless mushroom shaped clouds rising into the sky.
The Eastern Battlefront... was lost.
All of Eden suddenly fell into turmoil as one battlefront after another was attacked. More specifically, the attacks aimed towards the Angels, but they didn’t bother protecting the Seraphim from getting caught in the crossfire.
What was worse was that the Angels weren’t able to react properly because all of their leaders and commanders seemed to have simultaneously disappeared. All Dao Lords, and even Demi-Dao Lords seemed to have vanished all at the same time, leaving the immortals to decide how to defend on their own.
What was once a coordinated and organised war effort was broken down into small, individual battlefields with everyone solely focused on survival.
While the major damage seemed to be focused on the Angels, the Seraphim weren’t exactly happy either. Whoever these intruders were, they were leaving the realm in a state of utter destruction and desolation. It would take countless years for the realm to recover from something like this!
Outside Eden, within the Void, a fight had broken out on a scale that the universe had scarcely seen before. Over a thousand Dao Lords all attacked the Angels all at the same time, leaving them severely undermined and unable to react properly.
While it was difficult to reach a decisive outcome in a fight among Dao Lords, that was only in ordinary circumstances, and this was far from ordinary. Clearly, whoever was attacking had been preparing for a long time, and they came with a mission.
Even the war that had encompassed the whole universe, or the arrival of the Dream realm, or even the trap in Arch-Heaven had not impacted any single race as significantly as this one attack impacted the Angels.
Already, their position on the Cosmic Ascendance Spectrum was beginning to fall.
