Chapter 480: Chapter 342: Cry for Help_2

I carried Miss Tang to the outside of the cave, the entrance was blocked by stones. I put Miss Tang down on the empty space next to the entrance and asked her how she felt, exactly what was uncomfortable.

She said she had abdominal pain, I went to press her stomach, she said it’s not stomach pain, but lower abdominal pain.

My gaze moved to her lower abdomen, and what I saw was shocking. I looked at her, then at her belly, my gaze went back and forth twice.

"What’s wrong?" She was pale, lying flat on the ground, without any strength to sit up by herself.

"Did you... enter the desert while pregnant?" I asked uncertainly.

"What nonsense are you talking about? Is this a time to joke?"

"I’m not joking, your stomach is bulging." I couldn’t explain what I saw, so I supported Miss Tang’s neck and back and let her sit up to see for herself.

Her lower abdomen was bulging. Aside from the possibility of having gained weight these days, the remaining possibilities were either pregnancy or tumor.

There are other possibilities too, but from what I know, these are the three reasons why a belly might enlarge.

Miss Tang was even more bewildered than me; she looked at me in horror, as if waiting for me to give her an explanation.

This matter was so bizarre, I could not think of any explanation that would give her peace of mind. I knew her figure; I had seen her in a short skirt last time, without any hint of a tummy.

On a slender and thin person, a bulging stomach is particularly noticeable, like lice on a bald man’s head.

"I think in this situation, you need a professional doctor."

"I seem to..." Miss Tang’s eyes appeared vacant, as she looked at the night sky and softly said, "Forgot something."

"Hang in there, don’t just give up and fade away now, forgetting something doesn’t matter, first focus on staying alive."

"Leng Fuqu, have you ever seen red snow?"

"No, have you seen it? Don’t mind it, it’s your hallucination. Stay awake."

"Is that so..." Miss Tang’s complexion was getting paler, her voice weaker; she seemed ready to faint at any moment.

Seconds later, she gradually closed her eyes, and her belly rose even more than before.

Something inside her belly was absorbing her vitality, and when I realized this, I placed my hand over her belly.

If I only burned a small hole on her stomach, would it cause excessive bleeding? I’m not sure.

Karmic Fire has always been used to kill enemies, not save people. If I wanted to kill what was inside her belly, I’d have to burn through not just her skin but also her organs.

"Ah..."

As I was about to act and hadn’t yet acted, Miss Tang suddenly opened her eyes, her eyes full of red specks.

"I’m fine, feeling much better." Her breathing was no longer as rapid, and she had stopped sweating.

I looked at her belly, no longer enlarging; it now looked like she was four months pregnant.

She was wearing pants with an elastic waistband, not tightened by a belt. The bulging belly looked like more than just gaining weight.

Gurgle gurgle... squawk squawk... Strange noises suddenly rang out in the silent desert; these are calls from animals that seem ’common’ to me.

It indicated the surrounding dead silence had retreated; I looked around into the darkness, then looked at Miss Tang’s belly again.

"Help... help..." A faint cry mingled in the animal noises.

I turned to look at the cave entrance; the sound seemed to be coming from inside the cave.

I glanced around at the darkness, then looked at Miss Tang, and finally gazed at the entrance again. What’s going on here?

Those calling for help aren’t necessarily human; we had previously encountered creatures that could mimic human voices, luring people to their deaths.

Written on the notebook Mike picked up was that the team that entered the cave has been completely wiped out. The person who threw out this notebook and blocked the entrance was already poisoned, with no cure; she used her life’s last moments to scribble a warning, then used all her remaining strength to move stones to block the cave’s entrance.

The notebook’s owner was a female explorer and an entomologist, she recorded encountering insects in the Death Zone but not the kind of flying insect we encountered.

Creatures inside and outside the city originally had no interaction, but now the Ancient City vanished, its core energy collected, those inside flew out.

I leaned close to the cave entrance and listened carefully. The person calling for help had a hoarse voice, sounding weak, it was impossible to tell if it was male or female in this situation.

"Is there someone inside?" I asked.

"Help..."

"What’s one plus one?" I repeated the question in a foreign language three times.

While some creatures can mimic human speech, they can’t do math, so asking for a name is less effective than asking for addition.
