Chapter 53 -53: Doubts

In the morning, Su Yunjin woke up after Gu Ya did, which meant that when Yunjin woke up, there was only her in the bed; Gu Ya had already risen at some unknown time and wasn’t even in the room.

Yunjin had woken up late, so she didn’t know that Gu Ya had held her as they slept the night before, nor was she aware of how obediently she had snuggled in his arms, like a little kitten, wrapping her hand around his lean waist and hugging him tightly.

Yunjin’s body was weak, and she didn’t need to do farm work. She was to cook lunch and dinner, whereas breakfast was not her responsibility. Since Yunjin woke up late, Gu Ya didn’t wake her, allowing her to sleep in.

The other members of Gu Family had already gone out to harvest rice, and as Yunjin got out of bed and dressed, she unexpectedly found several spots on her body that were red. Looking at the red marks on her body, Yunjin wondered, why would there be redness on her?

Could it be mosquito bites?

Since the marks were faint and hardly noticeable unless looked at closely, and given that Gu Ya had been quite proper while sleeping next to her, Yunjin did not think in other directions.

...

She just assumed they were from mosquitoes or some other little bugs.

After all, their thatched cottage hardly kept out wind or rain, so the presence of mosquitoes and little bugs was only too normal.

Gu Ya pushed the door open and came in. Seeing his little wife fully dressed yet frowning at her own body, he approached and asked her, “Yunjin, what’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing!” Yunjin’s expression showed slight irritation as she scratched her neck and turned to Gu Ya, “I think I got bitten by some bugs last night. There are quite a few red marks on my hands, neck, and body!”

Gu Ya’s expression stiffened for a moment. As the “big bug” referred to by his little wife, he felt a bit guilty. However, he quickly masked his reaction and changed the topic earnestly, asking her, “Didn’t you say you wanted to go to the market with me?”

“That’s right!” Yunjin did indeed say the day before that she wanted to go to the market with Gu Ya to enjoy the hustle and bustle.

Gu Ya walked to his little wife’s side, “Let’s go! I boiled eggs for you. Eat the eggs in the kitchen, and then we can head to the market together.”

Last time, Yunjin’s older brother and sister had brought her a basket of eggs to nourish her health. After the Gu family had breakfast and left, and Yunjin was still asleep, Gu Ya had taken two eggs from the basket and boiled them for his little wife.

Upon arriving in the kitchen, Yunjin immediately saw the two free-range chicken eggs in the big bowl on the table. In modern times, one egg in the morning had been enough for Yunjin.

Moreover, these ancient free-range eggs were somewhat larger, seemingly by half compared to those she used to eat in modern times. Given the size of these eggs, eating two was beyond her capacity.

Thus, she casually took an egg from the bowl and handed it to Gu Ya, “Here’s one for you.”

“Yunjin, I’ve already had breakfast, and these eggs were boiled for you; please eat them, I won’t.” Gu Ya looked at his little wife and didn’t reach to take the egg that Yunjin offered him. The eggs were meant to nourish his little wife’s health; how could he, a grown man, consume what was meant for her?

Yunjin, of course, understood Gu Ya’s intention, knowing that he wanted her to eat both eggs. So she said, “I can’t finish two! One is enough for me.”
