Chapter 783: The Death of the Demon Emperor (2)

"You..." Zerathos’s eyes widened in shock.

He couldn’t understand how Evalyn had managed to attack him. His senses were razor-sharp; if anyone had approached him, he would have definitely noticed.

Moreover, a magical shield protected his body. It should have been impossible for any attack, no matter how powerful, to penetrate it—let alone destroy it.

Evalyn gave a faint smirk.

"One thing you must never forget is to never underestimate your enemy. Am I right, Demon Emperor Zerathos?"

She thrust her sword deeper, causing Zerathos to groan in pain.

"Damn it!"

Rage erupted within him. He wanted to twist his body and strike Evalyn, but he couldn’t. His body felt locked in place, restrained by an invisible force.

That force was the same one sealing his power.

"Human, release me now! Or do you want everyone here to die?" Zerathos threatened.

He couldn’t move. The only way out was to make Evalyn pull the sword from his body.

Only then could he destroy that woman—and kill everyone on the battlefield.

Evalyn smiled faintly, her tone dripping with mockery. "Do you think I’m stupid? You’ll attack me the moment I set you free."

Realizing his intentions had been seen through, Zerathos’s rage flared to its peak. But even so, there was nothing he could do.

He was completely immobilized. Then suddenly, he felt his power start to drain away.

"What’s happening...? Why do I feel my power fading?"

"Are you stupid?" Evalyn sneered. "Look down."

Zerathos subconsciously looked down. The sword piercing his body was emitting a faint golden light. His demonic power was slowly being purified.

"Impossible! That sword..." Zerathos’s eyes widened in shock. "The Divine Sword of Luminus!?"

His voice thundered across the battlefield. Lucas and the others stared at the sword, equally stunned.

"The Divine Sword of Luminus!? How is that possible?" Lucas exclaimed, his voice filled with terror.

He looked at the Divine Sword of Luminus in Rei’s hand, then back at the Divine Sword of Luminus in Evalyn’s hand.

The two swords looked exactly alike, as if they had been forged from the same mold. That meant one thing—both were genuine.

"How could this be... why are there two Divine Swords of Luminus?" Lucas muttered, rubbing his eyes as if he couldn’t believe what he was seeing.

The others were just as baffled. They were certain the sword in Evalyn’s hand was real. The power it radiated was identical to that of the Divine Sword of Luminus in Rei’s hand.

"Evalyn..."

Rei looked at Evalyn with a complex expression, then let out a long sigh.

He didn’t blame her. Things had already come to this point. If Evalyn hadn’t acted using the Divine Sword of Luminus, he would have died.

Even though Rei had said he wasn’t afraid of death, deep down he still wanted to live. After all, he was still young, with a long future ahead of him.

"Damn it! Bastard! Argh!"

Zerathos let out a deafening roar. His demonic power was dwindling by the second.

Even the energy sphere in his hand had begun to fade, and his body was weakening significantly.

’This can’t be allowed! If this keeps up, I’ll die in disgrace!’

Evalyn was an anomaly he hadn’t accounted for. It had been a huge mistake to underestimate her. If he had known it would end like this, he would have killed Evalyn first.

He didn’t know where that woman had obtained the Divine Sword of Luminus, while the real one was in Rei’s hands. But one thing was certain—he couldn’t just stand by and do nothing.

If he died, then everything would have to die with him.

With that thought, his grim expression shifted, replaced by a desperate, maniacal grin.

Boom!

His demonic power surged once more. The shockwave spread across a radius of three kilometers.

The unprepared soldiers were flung far away. Even Rei and Lucas were not spared.

Only Evalyn remained standing, though she bore the full brunt of the impact.

Her body felt as if it were being torn apart. Even so, she tightened her grip on the Divine Sword of Luminus.

"You’re all bastards!"

Zerathos’s voice boomed like thunder.

"Because of you, I failed to conquer this continent. But it’s fine."

His grin widened.

"Today, I’ll take you all down with me! Hahaha!"

Buzz!

A ball of light appeared around him, then began expanding to hundreds of times its original size in an instant.

"Danger!" Rei shouted in panic. "Lucas, hurry!"

Lucas nodded. Together, they thrust their swords into the ground, then clasped their hands.

"Hero Technique: Guardian Dome!"

Whoosh!

The Divine Sword of Luminus and the Dark Sword of Eclipse blazed brightly. Their light shot upward, merged, and formed a barrier thirty meters high.

The barrier protected the human army, which had already retreated to Rei and Lucas’s side.

Meanwhile, the demon army was left behind.

"N-No! Demon Emperor, don’t kill us!" one of the soldiers cried out.

"Your Majesty! Spare our lives!"

"Your Majesty! We are your own people! Please don’t kill us!"

"Your Majesty!"

The pleading voices of the demon soldiers echoed across the battlefield.

Unfortunately, Zerathos didn’t care about their pleas. There was only one thing on his mind—he was going to die, and everyone else would follow him.

The ball of light grew larger and larger until it finally reached fifty meters in diameter.

Roseline stared at Evalyn in the distance with a panicked expression.

"Evalyn! Run now! Quickly!"

Evalyn ignored her completely. She continued reinforcing the Divine Sword of Luminus’s suction on Zerathos’s demonic power while muttering, "I’m sure... I’m sure Nolan will protect me!"

She remembered the token Nolan had given her. Just like the handkerchief before, it would surely be her saving grace.

Finally, the ball of light stopped at sixty meters in size, then shone brightly before finally...

Boom!

"Evalyn!"

Roseline wept uncontrollably, but the sound of the explosion from Demon Emperor Zerathos’s body drowned out her cries.

The entire area within a four-kilometer radius was affected. Even the capital itself was impacted by the explosion.

Black smoke, mixed with brown dust, spread in all directions, obscuring the view of everyone protected by Rei and Lucas’s "Guardian Dome" technique.

Roseline stared at the site of the explosion with a pale face, filled with fear.

An explosion that massive must have killed Evalyn instantly. Grief, despair, anger, and fear all gnawed at her at once.

She didn’t even know how she would explain this to Nolan later.

A few minutes passed, and the smoke from the explosion slowly began to fade.

Roseline focused her gaze on the spot where Evalyn had been standing.

Her eyes widened instantly, and her heart raced.

Evalyn wasn’t there. That meant one thing—Evalyn was dead.

"Evalyn..."

Tears welled up in her eyes as she collapsed to the ground and sobbed.

"How could this be... why you?"

Her sobs grew louder with each passing moment. Evalyn was her future descendant.

Not to mention, she was the most talented among them and the only one who had managed to master the Divine Sword of Luminus after Rei’s death.

Just as she was drowning in grief, a soft voice came from behind her.

"Why are you crying, ancestor?"

Roseline’s body stiffened. Her heart raced.

She looked up and turned around, only to see Evalyn standing there with a smile on her face.

"E-Evalyn!?" she exclaimed in shock. "Y-You... how did you get here? Weren’t you...?"

She stammered, pointing toward the spot where Evalyn had been standing earlier.

Evalyn reached out her hand and explained, "I survived thanks to Nolan."

Roseline took her hand, and Evalyn pulled her up.

"Thanks to Nolan? What do you mean?"

Evalyn then explained everything to her.

Roseline listened and let out a sigh of relief.

"Thank goodness... I thought you were dead."

She hugged her tightly.

Evalyn smiled gently and patted her back.

Once Roseline had calmed down, she released the hug and asked, "What happened to the Demon Emperor? Is he...?"

Evalyn nodded, gazing toward where Demon Emperor Zerathos had once stood.

"He’s dead."
