Chapter 43: The Sealed Mysteries

"How... How did they let you keep that monster down here?"

Viva spoke through laboured breath, and Lana laughed.

"I don’t know. Master Percy just spoke to the headmaster, and the headmaster said it was okay, so we brought them from our mansion!"

"You guys have a mansion!? Why didn’t you just leave them there!?"

Lana gasped when she heard this!

"How dare you suggest something like that! You might think they’re monsters, but these are our family members! Of course, we would bring them with us! The way I see it, you’re more of a monster for suggesting we leave them behind!"

Viva was shocked by Lana’s rant, and she eyed Lana silently for a few seconds before she just shook her head and stood up slowly. There was no point in trying to use logic to reason with these people! They were all mad! Viva still didn’t think it was safe for monsters like these to exist in an academy filled with children! If even one of them were to break out, then it might be the end for everyone in this school! But if there was anyone that Viva would trust to look after these monsters, then it was Percy and his crazy family!

’Hopefully they know what they’re doing. Let’s just ignore it for now.’

Viva decided to get to work, and she walked up to one of the shelves beside her and picked out a book to read the title.

[A Guide to Traceless Assassination: 1001 Ways to Commit Murder]

Shiver!

Viva felt a shiver travel down her spine in shock, and she quickly put the book back on the shelf! Viva didn’t know why, but just touching that book made her feel dirty! It was as if she could feel the emotions of all the assassins who had used it in the past! Viva looked down the shelf, and she saw that most of the books here were the same! They were all about the dark arts or evil spells! There were a few normal books, but even the normal ones still looked very dangerous!

"Where did you get all these?"

Viva spoke up while looking over the wide room filled with shelves, and Lana answered with a smile.

"Master Percy and Madam Rita gathered a lot of them during our travels. We ran into a lot of dark organisations and cults, so we got most of the books here after we defeated them. There’s a restricted section upstairs with some of the less dangerous books. But the ones here are really bad."

"Shouldn’t you destroy these books? If they’re so dangerous, won’t it be better for them to be gone?"

Viva frowned as she said this, but Lana shook her head.

"No, we can’t do that. Master Percy doesn’t like destroying knowledge. According to him, knowledge simply exists, and it’s what people use it for that makes it good or bad. Even if the books are technically ’dark’, Master Percy still wants to preserve them for the future."

Viva scoffed, and she looked at the books in a new light. Viva already knew Percy was someone who had a lot of knowledge about magic, and he had personal habits that were hard to understand, so she wasn’t surprised that he would see books filled with dark magic as something worth preserving. He was just weird like that!

Viva stayed silent for a few moments as she just dusted off the shelves calmly, but she eventually got too curious, and she asked about what they had seen in the clinic the other day.

"Hey, Lana. Is that man still unconscious? The one that appeared through the Dimensional door."

Lana nodded.

"Mhm, he’s still unconscious. Why are you asking? Don’t tell me you have a crush on him~ I know he’s handsome, but Madam Rita says looks aren’t everything in a partner! You have to actually love him!"

Lana wagged her finger in a lecturing manner, and Viva’s cheeks reddened!

"W-What the hell are you even talking about? Who said anything about love!? Look, I was just wondering... what do you think Percival meant when he mentioned time earlier? He said something about that man’s time being off, right?"

Lana was busy organizing a few books on a shelf, and she answered while reaching for one of the books.

"It’s probably something about time travel."

Viva’s eyes widened in shock!

"What? Do you mean actual time travel? I thought that was a Sealed Mystery!"

In this world, there were a few types of magic that mages understood were just not possible! The people of this world referred to these magic as Sealed Mysteries, and it was believed that no mage in existence would ever be able to tap into these particular branches of magic!

But the mages in higher realms all knew that the only reason most mages thought time travel was impossible was because they were too weak to perform it! Once a mage becomes strong enough to perform True Magic, there would no longer be any limits to what they can do.

Time travel was one of those sealed mysteries, so hearing Lana speak about it so casually was shocking! Lana turned and gave Viva a curious look.

"What in the world are sealed mysteries? I don’t know what that is, but there’s nothing mysterious about time travel. Time Travel is a True Magic, so it sounds impossible for you weaker mages, but for someone like Master Percy, it’s not impossible."

Viva let out a tense breath as she tried to wrap her mind around all this, and she asked.

"So, does that mean that any powerful mage can just travel through time?"

"No, it’s not like that. There are rules surrounding time travel. Most weaker mages couldn’t even attempt time travel without an artefact supporting them, and there are creatures existing outside of time that prevent people from manipulating the timelines. Even powerful mages can be killed if they abuse time. I don’t really know the details, but if you want to know all about it, then Master Percy is the best person to ask."

Viva hummed while hugging a book to her chest. So was that why Percy looked so surprised when he spoke about the man being in the wrong time? From what Viva had felt when the man and woman appeared through the Dimensional door, Viva didn’t think the man was any stronger than a Fifth Realm Grandmaster, so it shouldn’t be possible for a man that weak to travel through time. If those two actually came from another time, then there must be something more serious going on here!

Viva huffed as she filed away that information for later, and she decided that she would grill Percy about time travel when she saw him again!

HISSS~!

A loud hiss echoed from the distance, and Viva felt her entire body shiver as she saw the giant basilisk slithering past a group of shelves a couple hundred feet away! Viva shook her head!

"I still can’t believe you’re keeping something like that down here. Aren’t you worried it’s going to hurt someone?"

Viva scowled as she watched the giant snake vanish into the darkness again, but Lana just laughed.

"Don’t be such a baby, Viva! Martha’s harmless! The one you really need to worry about is her mate, Harry. Harry’s a dick, and he really doesn’t like strangers."

HISSSSS~!

A loud hiss suddenly came from above Viva’s head, and Viva felt her eyes widen in shock as a shadow fell over her! Viva slowly turned her head up to look at what was there, and she felt an instinctive terror taking root in her heart as she saw a dark snake that was larger than a building hovering over her like an executioner! The snake’s red eyes glared down at Viva with intensity, and it suddenly opened its mouth to reveal fangs that were longer than Viva’s entire body!

ROARRR!

"KYAAAAA!!!"
