Chapter 46: Chapter 46: Angel-Fall Ambush

The glowing red countdown in the corner of Kaelen’s vision finally ticked down to zero.

[Time until Atmospheric Breach: 00:00:00]

High above the Obsidian Fortress, the permanent canopy of churning violet clouds violently tore open. The tear didn’t just part the weather; it ripped a physical hole in the fabric of the mortal realm. Through that jagged wound in the sky, a blinding, searing pillar of absolute white light slammed down into the ruined capital of Aethelgard.

For the first time in a thousand years, the heavens were bleeding into the mortal world.

From the center of the blinding pillar, twelve figures slowly descended. They were beautiful, terrifying, and completely flawless. Clad in seamless golden armor that physically radiated divine heat, each Celestial Seraph possessed six wings of pure, highly concentrated hard-light.

At the forefront of the vanguard was Ariel, the Dawn-Bringer.

She was a Level 105 Celestial Commander. Her silver hair whipped violently in the atmospheric winds, and her piercing blue eyes scanned the dark, corrupted city below with absolute, unadulterated disgust.

"The mortal realm has been completely tainted," Ariel’s voice echoed like a chorus of silver bells, communicating telepathically with her squad. "The Cathedral is shattered. The believers are dead. This ’Emperor’ is a plague that must be surgically excised."

"Commander," a Seraph lieutenant noted, lowering his flaming spear. "The city is empty. There are no defenses. No monsters manning the walls."

Ariel sneered, her divine arrogance blinding her to the reality of the Dungeon. "Because he is a coward playing god in the dirt. He felt our descent and hid his rats in the shadows. We will not waste time hunting him block by block. Descend to the inner courtyard. We will detonate our cores and glass the entire kingdom."

The twelve Seraphs folded their wings of light and dove directly toward the center of the Obsidian Fortress like golden meteors.

They expected the Heretic to cower. They expected to execute a flawless, unopposed orbital strike.

They did not expect the Abyss to reach up and grab them by the throat.

The exact second the Celestial vanguard passed the two-hundred-foot threshold of the obsidian walls, a massive, blaring alarm echoed in Ariel’s divine consciousness.

[Warning: Hostile Domain Entered.] [Targeted by Mythic Aura: ’Imperial Suppression’.] [All Stats Reduced by 50%.]

The reaction was instantaneous and violently catastrophic.

Ariel gasped in sheer, paralyzing horror as the hyper-dense gravity of Kaelen’s Level 70 void aura crashed into her shoulders like a falling mountain. Her Level 105 strength plummeted. Her divine mana circuits choked. The brilliant hard-light wings of her entire squad violently flickered, sputtering out like wet candles.

"Pull up!" Ariel screamed, her voice cracking as the sudden, terrifying weight of mortality dragged her down. "It’s a trap! Pull up!"

But they couldn’t. Without their massive agility stats, they were falling too fast.

Down in the shadows of the courtyard, Kaelen sat leisurely upon his throne of black glass. He looked up at the plummeting angels, a wicked, deeply malicious smile spreading across his handsome face.

"Fire," Kaelen commanded.

From the darkened balconies and shattered archways of the inner city, thirty massive Abyssal Ballistas violently snapped forward.

Seraphina and the hidden Brutes unleashed Elara’s masterpiece. Thirty massive, ten-foot-long bolts of pure Void-Steel ripped through the air, completely shattering the sound barrier.

The Seraphs were sluggish, disoriented, and stripped of their absolute invulnerability. The Void-Steel bolts slammed into the angelic vanguard with devastating kinetic force. The pitch-black metal cleanly pierced their golden armor, sinking deep into their divine flesh.

"Formation broken!" a Seraph screamed as a bolt pinned his shoulder. "I am hit! But... the metal... it burns!"

Elara Valerius stood in the shadows of the forge entrance, her emerald eyes glowing with manic, obsessive pride. "Detonate," she whispered, snapping her fingers.

Inside the hollowed-out Void-Steel bolts, the highly compressed Wyrm-Blight toxin violently exploded.

The sky instantly turned into a nightmare. A thick, corrosive cloud of putrid green and black venom erupted directly inside the Seraphs’ holy auras. The toxin aggressively devoured their pure light, melting their golden armor and liquefying their perfect flesh.

The angels didn’t just fall; they screamed. It was a harrowing, agonizing sound of pure suffering that the heavens had never known.

Twelve corrupted, dying comets violently crashed into the obsidian courtyard, shattering the glass floor and sending a massive cloud of ash into the air.

Kaelen slowly stood up from his throne. The hyper-dense void mana rolled off his broad shoulders in thick, suffocating waves.

"Kill them all," Kaelen’s voice echoed across the courtyard, carrying the absolute, unquestionable weight of an Emperor. "Leave the Dawn-Bringer for me."

Seraphina didn’t hesitate. The fallen High Paladin charged into the cratered courtyard like a golden blur of death. She leaped toward a struggling, poisoned Seraph who was desperately trying to heal his severed wing.

"Abyssal Cleave!"

Seraphina brought the Mythic-Tier Eclipse Breaker down in a devastating arc. The blade greedily devoured the angel’s desperate holy barrier and cleanly severed his head from his shoulders.

[Party Kill: Celestial Seraph (Level 100). +650,000 EXP.]

From the flat shadows cast by the debris, Lyriel melted flawlessly into the physical realm. The high-agility assassin moved with terrifying, fluid precision. She didn’t bother with flashy attacks. She simply slipped behind a coughing, blinded angel and drove her venom-coated daggers directly into the base of his divine spine, permanently severing his connection to the Goddess.

[Party Kill: Celestial Seraph (Level 100). +650,000 EXP.]

It was an absolute massacre. The Level 100 angels, stripped of their stats and rotting from the inside out via Elara’s alchemy, were completely helpless against the localized gods of the Labyrinth.

Through the chaos, blood, and screaming, Kaelen walked slowly toward the center of the impact crater.

Ariel, the Dawn-Bringer, was trying to stand. Her flawless golden armor was cracked and leaking putrid black smoke. Three of her six light-wings were completely shattered. She coughed up a mouthful of golden blood tainted with void-toxin, her trembling hands desperately gripping the hilt of a blazing celestial broadsword.

"You..." Ariel wheezed, her piercing blue eyes locking onto Kaelen with absolute, fanatical hatred. "You are an abomination... The Goddess will unmake you!"

Ariel channeled the last agonizing dregs of her divine core, launching herself at Kaelen with a desperate, flaming thrust aimed directly at his heart.

Kaelen didn’t dodge. He didn’t even draw a weapon.

He simply raised his bare, calloused left hand and caught the razor-sharp edge of her blazing celestial broadsword in his palm.

Ariel’s eyes widened in sheer, mind-breaking disbelief. Her ultimate strike, powered by the heavens, didn’t even leave a scratch on his skin. The suffocating density of his void mana instantly crushed the holy fire, turning the divine weapon into dull, useless iron.

"Is this the wrath of the heavens?" Kaelen whispered, his deep voice heavily layered with dark amusement. "I expected more."

Kaelen effortlessly twisted his wrist, snapping the celestial blade perfectly in half. Before Ariel could even process the destruction of her weapon, Kaelen stepped perfectly into her guard.

He drove his right hand forward, his large fingers wrapping viciously around her throat. He lifted the Level 105 Dawn-Bringer entirely off her feet, his thumb pressing dangerously against her pulse.

Ariel desperately clawed at his iron grip, her legs kicking in the air as the suffocating weight of the Abyss forcefully invaded her spiritual pathways.

Around them, the screaming finally stopped. Seraphina and Lyriel stood amidst the severed, rotting corpses of the eleven other Seraphs, their weapons dripping with divine blood.

The system in Kaelen’s peripheral vision went absolutely insane.

[Massive Experience Threshold Met!] [Devoured 11x Celestial Cores. Level Cap of 70 violently shattered.] [Level Up! You are now Level 75.] [Level Up! You are now Level 85.] [Level Up! You are now Level 95.] [System Notification: The Emperor has consumed the flesh of the Heavens. Initiating Ascendant Evolution...]

Kaelen took a deep, intoxicating breath as the raw, unadulterated divine energy flooded into his void core. The intense friction between the holy EXP and his dark mana threatened to tear his pathways apart, but he forcefully crushed it down into submission.

He looked at the beautiful, trembling angel choking in his grip. The Void-Toxin was actively eating away at her soul. She was dying.

"You are going to kill me," Ariel choked out, tears of pain and humiliation streaming down her flawless cheeks. "Do it, demon. Send me back to her light."

"No," Kaelen smiled, a dark, predatory expression that made Ariel’s divine core shiver with primal terror. "Death is a mercy reserved for your soldiers. You are going to give me the keys to your kingdom."

Kaelen turned to his generals. "Chain her in the deepest chamber of the Sanctuary. The heavens just gave us a new toy, and I intend to break her completely."
