Chapter 206: She Could Have Him
Ariana’s POV
I walked into the company with workers bustling, answering tons of greetings as usual... I got to my office, pushing it open, and behold, Natasha was sitting in my chair behind my desk.
Her feet were propped up on my paperwork.
Her hand was resting on her belly.
That belly.
The one carrying Dante’s child looked at me like she owned the place.
I dropped my bag on the couch, crossed my arms, and stared at her. "Natasha. What are you doing in my office? How did you even get in here?"
Natasha didn’t move; instead, she just smiled a fake smile. "The door was open, and the receptionist was very friendly. She let me right in when I told her I was an old friend."
"We’re not friends, last time I checked, so I’ll ask again. What are you doing here?"
Natasha swung her feet off my desk, walking towards me, her heels clicking on the floor. Each step was louder than the last. "I’m here to warn you to stay away from Dante. You left him by faking your death. You let him believe you were dead for two years, and he was starting to finally accept that, and then now you want to crawl back into his life as if nothing happened?"
I turned to face her. "I don’t want to crawl back into his life. I signed the divorce papers and walked away. What more do you want from me?"
Natasha laughed. It was a bitter sound. "I want you to disappear for real this time. Go back to whatever hole you crawled out of and stay there....Don’t call him ever again, just leave him alone."
I shook my head. "I haven’t contacted him since I signed the divorce papers, so I don’t know what you’re talking about. I’ve been doing exactly what you’re asking me to do. Staying away."
Natasha stepped closer with her eyes burning. "Then why is he still talking about you? Why is he still reaching for you? Why is he still refusing to be with me? He won’t even touch me or even look at me. He just sits in his room and stares at pictures of you."
I felt the tears come, blinked them back. "That’s not my problem. That’s between you and Dante. I can’t control what he does. I can’t control how he feels. I can only control myself."
Natasha grabbed my arm, her nails digging into my skin. "You’re lying. I’m very certain you’re manipulating him by playing games with his heart just like you’ve always done."
I pulled my arm away. "I’m not playing games. I’m not manipulating anyone. I signed the papers, so please, what else do you want me to do?"
Natasha put her hand on her belly and rubbed it slowly. "I want you to understand. This baby is his future, all the other kids... ugh! Don’t get me started"
I looked at her bump, the life growing inside her, one that should have been mine. The life that Dante had given to someone else. "I do accept it, I’ve accepted it, that’s why I walked away"
Natasha stepped back with eyes narrowed. "Then why does he still love you? Why does he still want you? Why does he still call your name in his sleep?"
I felt the words hit me like stones. "I don’t know. I can’t answer that. I wish I could make him stop, I fucking wish I could make him forget about me."
"So what now?"
I looked at her bump again at the innocent life that didn’t ask for any of this. "Your baby deserves a father who loves him. Who’s there for him? Who puts him first? I’m not standing in the way of that. I was never Natasha, and the sooner you understand that, the better."
Natasha grabbed my hands. "Then help me. Help me get him back. Help me make him forget about you, let me be the only woman in his life."
I pulled my hands away. "I can’t help you. I can’t make him feel something he doesn’t feel beside me. I’ve already done everything I can to remove myself from his life."
Natasha’s eyes filled with tears. "You’re not trying hard enough, you’re still here in England, maybe if you leave and go back to New York."
I shook my head. "I’m not leaving. I have a job here, a life here. I’m not going to uproot everything because you’re insecure about your relationship with Dante."
Natasha’s face twisted. "Insecure? I’m not insecure. I’m pregnant with his child. I’m the mother of his unborn son. I have every right to be here."
I stepped back. "And I’m not stopping you from that"
"Ariana, please, I want Dante. I can’t lose him, I love him too much"
"Then I hope someday he feels the same way about you, too"
Natasha stepped back and smoothed her dress. She wiped her eyes. "I hoped so, too."
She walked to the door, then paused, looking back at me. "For what it’s worth, I’m sorry. I’m sorry for the way things turned out. I’m sorry you lost your family. I’m sorry you lost your children, but I’m not sorry I fought for mine."
I didn’t say anything cause couldn’t the words were stuck in my throat.
Natasha walked out the door closed behind her.
I sank into my chair, putting my head in my hands, and the tears came.
She could have him.
