Chapter 29: Partnership
The morning light filtered through the glass walls of the Aegis Prime tower, casting silvery reflections on the marble tiles of the main hall. Gerhman walked forward with a calm step, his hands buried in the pockets of his black pants, ignoring the murmurs of the employees who moved aside as he passed. He wore his new outfit, that fitted black vest over a white shirt with the first buttons open, revealing his silver necklaces that sparkled with every movement. His grayish hair, slightly tousled, framed his face with fine features. On the left side of his neck, the spiderweb tattoo was visible, while the chains hanging from his left ear tinkled discreetly.
He arrived in front of the massive double doors of the guild master’s office and entered without even bothering to knock, a habit he had already adopted since his return. Inside, the atmosphere was palpable. Electhra was seated behind her desk, but she was not alone. Seo Ye-Jin stood near the bay window, observing the urban panorama of Seoul. As soon as she saw Gerhman, a predatory smile stretched her lips painted in a dark red.
"There you are at last..." Seo Ye-Jin began in a honeyed voice. "I wanted to know if you had thought about my offer. Tell me, why waste such talent in this rotten guild? If you want, I am ready to give you a place in my guild."
She leaned slightly toward him, highlighting her plunging neckline accented by black lace, hoping her body would obtain what her words could not yet seize. Gerhman looked at her with total contempt.
"I already told you that I was not interested..." Gerhman replied in a monotone and sharp voice. "And for your information, I was never a member of the Aegis guild."
Seo Ye-Jin froze, her smile faltering for the first time. She took half a step back, readjusting her glasses with a sharp gesture of her index finger, her facial expression shifting from seduction to total perplexity.
"What?... That is not what the official reports say..." she stammered, her violet eyes searching for an explanation on Electhra’s face.
"The Master is an independent awakened..." Electhra intervened with evident satisfaction, her own violet eyes shining with a mocking gleam toward her rival. "He belongs to no one but himself. If you had bothered to check your sources instead of parading around, you would already know it."
Gerhman completely ignored the confusion of the Astra Polaris mistress and turned toward his servant. He settled into one of the black leather armchairs, crossing his legs with natural elegance, his black-gloved hands tapping the armrest.
"Tell me, Electhra..." Gerhman spoke, his gaze fixing on her. "How to find the members of the cult?"
Electhra frowned, her expression immediately becoming more serious and dark. She knew that her master never asked questions out of simple curiosity. She leaned forward, crossing her hands on the desk, while her long violet hair slipped over her shoulders.
"You plan to pursue them?..." she asked with a hint of worry that she could not completely mask.
Gerhman did not answer, simply staring at her. His silence was an answer in itself.
"It is not necessary for the moment, Master..." Electhra explained gently. "You should rather focus on your recovery. Let me take care of searching for the cult members. I have already deployed my informants in the Gangnam sectors."
Seo Ye-Jin, who was listening to the conversation with growing attention, realized that something important was being plotted before her eyes. She immediately sensed the opportunity. She replaced her veil on her shoulders and intervened in a more serious tone, her voice having lost its accents of superficial seduction.
"I do not know exactly what is happening between you two, but I think I can help..." Seo Ye-Jin said as she approached the desk again. "I can share my reports with you, but on one condition only."
Electhra let out an exasperated sigh. "I knew you would end up asking for something... Speak, Ye-Jin. What do you want?"
"It is simple..." Seo Ye-Jin continued while fixing Gerhman with a bright gaze. "Gerhman should have a partnership relationship with my guild. He would keep his independent status, but Astra Polaris would become his priority logistical support for all his incursions into the upper towers."
Gerhman tilted his head slightly to the side, a gesture that made his silver piercings shine under the subdued light of the office. He narrowed his eyes, scrutinizing the young woman standing in front of him, and let out a brief, almost mocking laugh. "Why do all this if in the end I do not join your guild?" he asked in a calm voice, but tinged with sincere curiosity.
Seo Ye-Jin smiled, a smile full of assurance and challenge. She crossed her arms under her chest. Her eyes sparkled with a mischievous gleam, and she tilted her head slightly. "If that bitch shows you so much respect, it means you must be special," she explained, emphasizing the word "bitch" with a contemptuous stress. She paused, letting her words float in the air like a promise. "So I will do everything to have you." Her voice was firm, almost sharp, as if she were sealing a pact of which she alone held the keys.
Then, she turned her gaze toward Electhra, who stood motionless in the corner of the room, her arms dangling and her face impassive. Seo Ye-Jin gave her a victorious and provocative smile, fully savoring the fact that she had managed to insert herself into these private matters. She raised an eyebrow, as if to challenge Electhra to reply, but the latter remained silent, simply holding her gaze without faltering. This little power game seemed to amuse Seo Ye-Jin, who delighted in every second of this silent confrontation.
She finally looked away before speaking again. "For the moment, the help I intend to provide is not yet fully available," she declared as she headed toward the office exit with measured steps. Her heels clicked on the parquet with regularity. She stopped for a moment, turning her head slightly to glance over her shoulder, and added: "As soon as it is done, I will call you personally." Her voice was soft.
She paused on the threshold of the door, her slender silhouette standing out against the bright light of the hallway. She cast one last look over her shoulder to observe the silhouette of the teenager, who remained imperturbable in his seat, his fingers crossed on his knees. He did not flinch, did not even blink, as if all this barely affected him. This stoic attitude seemed both to fascinate and irritate Seo Ye-Jin, who pursed her lips into an enigmatic smile.
"By the way, do not make me wait too long... I hate it when people resist me..." she added, lowering her voice slightly to give it a more intimate tone. Then, without waiting for a reply, she moved away, and the rhythmic clicking of her heels on the marble of the hallway echoed, fading progressively until it was nothing more than a murmur.
