Chapter 2378: Chapter 2377: Trial

Ling Feng was stunned as soon as he heard it.

He immediately asked in a deep voice, "Why do they need to be killed?"

"They are all vicious criminals and deserve death," said the voice.

"Why can’t I see them?" Ling Feng continued to ask.

"The environment here is special. It’s normal that you can’t see them," the voice replied.

Ling Feng responded with an "Oh" and then said, "Sorry, if I can’t see them, I won’t act!"

"What? Are you defying orders?" the voice asked.

"No! I just hope to see the truth with my own eyes before deciding to act because the sounds I hear are not of viciousness but the laughter of children!"

Ling Feng said solemnly, and then continued: "I have joined Lingjian Mountain, but that doesn’t mean I can go against my own conscience and become your lackey!"

As soon as he finished speaking, his vision suddenly brightened, the blue light disappeared, and a small town appeared in front of him.

Ling Feng was stunned again.

He had been here before; it was a place he had visited while out playing with Xiao Xiao and Mu Mu!

As he was lost in thought, the voice sounded again: "Excellent, you have passed the test!"

"..."

Ling Feng was speechless and immediately asked, "What if I had obeyed and acted? Wouldn’t these people have died innocently?"

"No, if you had acted, they would have turned into illusions and wouldn’t be harmed by you."

After the voice finished speaking, a brilliant light flashed before Ling Feng, and he was returned to where he was before.

At this moment, an elder with white hair appeared in front of him, smiling.

"I am the elder here. I have no name; you may call me Elder," the elder said.

Ling Feng nodded, bowed, and then asked, "Elder, was this my final test?"

"Actually, I already understand your disposition. The reason for conducting another test was to meet the requirements of the Heavenly Dao," the elder replied.

"The Heavenly Dao?"

Ling Feng was a bit confused.

"Yes!"

The elder nodded: "The Heavenly Dao is our superior civilization. They created the Chaos Sword, set the trial rules, and entrusted us to implement them."

"Oh."

Ling Feng nodded and then asked: "As far as I know, their civilization is extremely advanced, so why is Lingjian Mountain unable to avoid the major catastrophe every seven hundred years?"

"You may not know, Lingjian Mountain relies on the space within the Chaos Sword for development, but the Chaos Sword itself has flaws. To end the calamity here, one must find the lost fragments of the sword’s body," the elder explained.

"Is that so?"

Ling Feng immediately understood and asked, "Those fragments must be hard to find, right? After all, the universe is so vast, and even the Heavenly Dao can’t find them."

"That’s right."

The elder nodded: "The search for the fragments has been going on for hundreds of thousands of years, but there are still no leads. It’s said they’ve been scattered to parallel universes of other dimensions."

"That’s really troublesome."

Ling Feng was helpless, thinking to himself that although he could traverse time and space, traversing dimensions was something he hadn’t even considered.

"Alright, you are now officially a Fourth Grade disciple of Lingjian Mountain. Strive hard in the future and aim to reach the First Rank Realm soon to lead more people out of the calamity."

The elder said this, waved his hand, and Ling Feng suddenly flew up and then left the building.

Outside, Ling Feng regained control of himself and slowly landed on the ground.

Looking around, Mo Yan was already gone.

Ling Feng was planning to return home when the three brothers of Yun Cheng immediately ran up to him. They approached with smiles and asked, "Brother Ling, how do you feel?"

"No need to be so formal, you can just call me Ling Feng!"

"It’s not formality. You are Fourth Grade, and we are Fifth Rank; we must respect you!" Yun Cheng joked.

Ling Feng smiled, "We’re all brothers, no need for respect or disrespect!"

Then he changed the topic: "Do you three have any tasks here?"

"We have nothing today. Our patrol task is over. We can rest for a few days," Yun Cheng replied.

"Since that’s the case, why not come to my place for a drink and chat?" Ling Feng invited with a smile.

"Drink? What’s that?" Yun Cheng asked.

"Hmm?"

Ling Feng was puzzled and asked in surprise, "There’s no alcohol in Lingjian Mountain?"

"No, we’ve never heard of it!" Yun Cheng replied.

"Really?"

Ling Feng was speechless and then smiled bitterly: "No alcohol, life must be so dull!"

"What is it used for?"

Yun Cheng and the others were curious upon hearing this.

"Alcohol is a wonderful thing!"

Ling Feng chuckled, his brows raised with excitement as he said, "Come with me, since we’re free today, I’ll let you three taste the specialty delicacy from Earth!"

"Sounds great!"

Yun Cheng and the others were immediately invigorated and quickly followed Ling Feng as they soared away from the Lingjian Mountain peak.

The four of them soon returned to Ling Feng’s home and then walked inside together.

Yun Cheng and the others looked around in envy. The residence of Fifth Rank disciples is like a collective dormitory; everyone lives under the same roof. But once you reach Fourth Grade, you can have such a grand mansion; the difference is like night and day.

After marveling at the large courtyard, they saw two smiling and beautiful young women, which made Yun Cheng and the others widen their eyes.

Fortunately, these three were not frivolous, and after the initial shock, they didn’t stare at Xiao Xiao and Mu Mu any longer.

"These three brothers are acquaintances of mine. We ran into each other today, so let’s have drinks and cheer. Could you prepare some food?" Ling Feng said.

"Alright!"

Xiao Xiao and Mu Mu nodded and quickly went to the back to busy themselves.

Everyone sat down in the courtyard, and Yun Cheng immediately asked: "Brother Ling, we know very little about your past, but I have a feeling you must have been really impressive on Earth, right?"

"Not too bad."

Ling Feng was modest and then continued, "Just some minor achievements, nothing compared to Lingjian Mountain."

"Oh."

Yun Cheng nodded and then added, "But with such beautiful women by your side, just that alone outshines Lingjian Mountain!"

"Oh?"

Ling Feng was puzzled and asked, "Aren’t there women in Lingjian Mountain?"

"There are, but we haven’t seen any that make our eyes go wide," Yun Cheng remarked.

Ling Feng recalled when he went out with Xiao Xiao and Mu Mu; the women they encountered indeed all had average looks, not very attractive.

Compared to the appearances of the two girls, it’s indeed a world of difference.

"Such an amazing place, yet no beauties?" Ling Feng asked in surprise.

"Who knows, anyway, us brothers haven’t seen a woman who makes our eyes pop!" Yun Cheng said.
